We have also a more sure Word of prophecy, whereunto you do well to take heed, as unto a light that shines in a dark place... 2 Pet 1:19
One of the most essential warnings comes in scripture Jesus and the Apostle's focused on was that of "Taking Heed", which is to yourself, doctrine, others and it is very detrimental to your salvation because it has so many nuances of circumstances in which we need to be focused on. But the safety is in the word s of Jesus promises of us abiding in Him and His word is the assurance against deception and in-attentiveness.
We need to be alert, vigilant and circumspect in these last days to our own selves that we not allow ourselves to be deceived. This requires a deep attentiveness to God's word, prayer, meditating upon the word, being a doer of The Word and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We must be disciples of Christ, using the law as a schoolmaster to help bring us to Christ, cause the Old Testament was written for our admonition to learn from in order to overcome in these perilous, seductive times we live in.
Rev. Cyril A. Stevens – Sermon 0136A recorded on February 10, 1980 teaching from Luke 21:5-36 – The Second Coming – Take Heed to Yourselves, Lest at Any Time Your Hearts be Overcharged. Pastor Cyril A. Stevens delivers a solemn exhortation for believers to watch and pray in anticipation of the Second Coming of Christ. He begins…
Paul's warning to the Corinthian church serves as a warning for us to remember the past failures of God's people in order that we guard our own lives and flee from idolatry and stay faithful to Christ.
On Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026, Pastor Matt Cottrill challenges us to examine the sharpness of our spiritual walk through the lens of Hebrews 2:1, which warns us to give earnest heed to what we've heard lest we let it slip. The central question posed is both convicting and necessary: Are we as spiritually sharp today as we've been in previous seasons? The message uses the brilliant illustration of a knife that becomes dull through daily use without intentional sharpening—we don't notice the gradual loss of edge until we need precision cutting. Similarly, our spiritual sensitivity can dull over time through routine without intentional engagement. We can still attend church, still worship, still agree with truth, yet lose the razor-sharp conviction that once pierced our hearts. The danger for mature believers is that depth becomes optional rather than essential. We begin to function without pressing forward, maintaining without pursuing deeper things. What once set our souls on fire now only brushes the surface. This isn't about rejecting truth—it's about failing to grow in truth. The call is clear: we need consistent, intentional sharpening through daily engagement with God's Word, not just hearing but applying what we learn, transforming information into formation that reshapes our lives.
John 18:15-27 - Joel Kurz of The Garden Church
The sermon centers on the transformative power of hearing and obeying the Word of God, illustrated through Jesus' parable of the sower. It emphasizes that true hearing is not merely auditory but involves spiritual receptivity, where the Word takes root in a heart committed to obedience. The parable reveals four responses to the Word—hardened, shallow, distracted, and fruitful—highlighting that only those who receive it with a noble and good heart and act on it bear lasting fruit. The preacher underscores that spiritual understanding is granted to those who seek truth, while hardness of heart leads to concealment, and warns that mere attendance or knowledge without obedience renders the Word ineffective. Ultimately, the call is to take heed how we hear, for obedience to what we already know opens the door to deeper revelation, and true discipleship is marked by faithfulness, fruit-bearing, and a life shaped by Scripture and the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Kevin teaches through Luke 8:1–21, focusing on the Parable of the Sower and Jesus' call to “take heed how you hear.” This Bible teaching explains that the seed is the word of God and that the four soils represent different conditions of the human heart, revealing why people respond to God's word in different ways. Pastor Kevin walks through the hard, shallow, divided, and receptive heart, showing how sin, trials, and the cares of this world can hinder spiritual growth, while a sincere and obedient heart bears lasting fruit.

In this message, Chad Everett teaches from Mark 13 and calls the Church to return to a clear, biblical focus in a distracted and divided world. The disciples asked Jesus about timelines and signs, but Jesus redirected their attention to something more important: how they should live. His instruction was not centered on speculation, but on spiritual posture—take heed, watch, and stay on mission. Chad emphasizes that one of the enemy's primary tactics is distraction. In a time filled with voices, opinions, social media, and constant information, believers can easily be led off course. Jesus warns that deception is not always obvious—it often comes through distraction, misdirection, and drifting away from the truth. The message also highlights the importance of being spiritually alert. Believers are called to be watchful, grounded in Scripture, and prepared to respond appropriately—not shaped by culture, but by the Word of God. Finally, the mission is clear: the gospel must be preached. Instead of becoming consumed with signs, politics, or speculation, the Church must remain focused on the Great Commission. Every believer is sent to share the good news of Jesus. Because of this message: ● We are called to take heed so we are not deceived ● We are called to watch and remain spiritually alert ● We are called to stay on mission and preach the gospel The Roads Church - https://theroads.church

Title: How to Be BoldScripture Reading: Joshua 1:6-9Series: Be Bold! How do we move from cautious faith to courageous action? We learn the answer from Joshua, who was commanded to be strong and courageous. True boldness is born out of trust in God. To be bold, we must first "Take Hold" of the unique calling God has placed on our lives. Next, we must "Take Heed" of God's Word by internalizing it through study and conversation. Finally, we must "Take Heart." We never go into a moment of boldness alone. The Holy Spirit is always with us, just as Jesus promised. Through these three simple steps, we can live out our mission statement boldly in the year ahead.
