(Airdate 2/16/23) Marcia Mayeda has served as Los Angeles County's Director of Animal Care and Control (DACC) since July, 2001. DACC provides animal care and control services for all unincorporated Los Angeles County and the 45 cities that contract with DACC for services. In this profession since 1984, Marcia is a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator. The department has community resource centers for pets, with care vouchers, a pet food bank, care vouchers, temporary pet boarding for those experiencing homelessness or entering rehab and much more. www.animalcare.lacounty.gov

A girl named Madeline, with a vivid imagination and remarkable awareness of how bureaucracy can dash dreams, got her wish when she asked Los Angeles animal control authorities for a license to own a unicorn — if she's able to find one. The first-of-its-kind permit came with strings attached, however: The mythical creature must be provided ample exposure to sunlight, moonbeams and rainbows and have its horn polished at least once a month with a soft cloth. Director Marcia Mayeda of the county Department of Animal Care and Control sent the girl a heart-shaped, rose-colored metal tag with “Permanent Unicorn License” emblazoned on it, along with a white fuzzy unicorn doll with pink ears, purple hooves and a silver horn. The department's response came after the girl wrote it a brief letter: “Dear LA County, I would like your approval if I can have a unicorn in my backyard if I can find one.” Mayeda commended the girl for her “sense of responsible pet ownership to seek permission in advance” and for thoughtfully considering “the requirements of providing a loving home to animals.” The agency posted images of the correspondence, the license, the medallion and the stuffed toy on its social media accounts, with the girl's last name obscured. Its five conditions for unicorn ownership also require that any sparkles or glitter sprinkled on the animal be nontoxic and biodegradable, and that it be fed watermelon at least once a week. Episode 22: MICHAEL MAYEDA aka "DJ MEGA MAN" This week the fellas sat down with Michael Mayeda aka “DJ Mega Man” and learn about his DJ career, his current production career and his thoughts about life and pain. They begin discussing Mayeda’s upbringing, growing up in Oxnard, CA and learning how an abusive care taker experience made him turn to music in order to cope with the pain. Mayeda explains how obsessive he became with DJing, that lead to him booking raves at the age of 14 as well as getting his first radio gig at the same time. Mayeda goes on to speak of how pain relates to creativity and the similarities between stand up comedians and DJ’s. He also talks about his time living in Las Vegas and his reasons on why he stopped DJing. Once removed from DJing, he turned his full attention to music production. He has worked with the likes of Lil Jon, SIA, Lady Gaga, and Pitbull, along with making soundtracks for a handful of motion pictures. Finally, they discuss the evolution of music, and dissect some of Mayeda’s videos, where he uses everyday sounds to make music, including making music from all of the planets radiations

Well known for his for his highly praised club remixes exclusively released on the record pool DJ City, Michael Mayeda is a musician and producer based in Los Angeles California. If this is your first time hearing the name Michael Mayeda, chances are you might have already heard his work. Mayeda has an impressive portfolio of music credits that have appeared on tv networks like NBC, and even to the bigger screen with placements on movies like Seth Rogen’s “Neighbors 2” and Marvel’s “Ant-Man”. Despite Mayeda's successful work in music production, his talents go far beyond that. He is also an acclaimed club dj and turntables. Mayeda has recently put forth another talent of his where he is combining visual content along with his production. In his new video series "KEYBOARD VIBES," he will be performing original chilled trap beats and samples, accompanied with melodic chords and melodies. His recent project, Scratch Wars Ep.1 “Power of the Darkside”, has made a lot of noise as he produced, performed and paid homage to the 80’s classic Star Wars. This is a turntablist performance showcasing creativity and skills that even George Lucas could appreciate. Mayeda continuously stays active in the studio creating new music for future projects and upcoming placement releases, leaving us with nothing but excitement for what the future has in store for him.
