Ask David, #491, featuring our beloved Dr. Matthew May. Can Introverts be helped? How can we enhance our happiness? What's the best movie to watch if your father rejected you? How can I identify my feelings? The answers to the first two questions are brief and were written prior to the show. Listen to the podcast for a more in-depth discussion of each question. Today's Questions Anonymous asks: Can an introvert become more extroverted? Or are these personality traits "fixed" and unchanging? Seve asks: I know that TEAM can be super helpful for negative thoughts and feelings, but what are the best tools to enhance happiness and become the person we want to be? I have a patient whose father rejected her when she was young. What would be a good movie that I could recommend for her? Anonymous asks: I don't know how to identify my feelings. Can you help? Today's Answers Question #1 Anonymous asks: Can an introvert become more extroverted? Or are these personality traits "fixed" and unchanging? Dear Dr. Burns, I hope this message finds you well. I would like to ask you a question regarding personality traits. Some articles suggest that introversion and extraversion are relatively stable characteristics—meaning that an introverted person cannot truly become more extroverted, and vice versa (or at least not to a great extent). They also propose that introverts tend to lose energy in social situations and recharge when alone, whereas extroverts gain energy from social interaction. I'm very curious to know your thoughts on this topic. Do you believe an introverted person can become more extroverted? And in your view, is an introvert's need for solitude more of a true "need" or a "want"? Thank you very much for your time and for the inspiration your work has provided to so many of us. Warm regards, Anonymous David's reply If you like, I can make this an Ask David question for an upcoming podcast! It's a cool question and raises many questions: Do "personalities" even "exist?" Is this like the question, "Do we have a self?" It also focuses on the issue of whether we can change and grow, or whether there is some invisible barrier beyond which we can grow any further, due to some inherent "limit" due to our "personality type." Best, david Question #2 Dr. Dear David: I know first-hand how helpful TEAM CBT can be to address negative thoughts and emotions but our path to a happier life and to the person we want to be never really ends. Are there any other tools that Dr. David may have come across and can suggest for someone's growth? Thank you, Steve David's Answer Great question, and I'll give you a (hopefully) great answer on the podcast! But here's the quickie answer. Focus on one specific moment when you'd like to be feeling happier, or when you need help on become the person you want to be, and then use a Daily Mood Log, Habit / Addiction Log (HAL), or Relationship Journal, depending on what's needed. This is the exact same fractal concept we use in all of TEAM CBT! Warmly, david Question #3 Hi podcast crew: I have a patient whose father rejected her when she was young. What would be a really good movie to recommend do her? David's Answer Sadly, I lost my notes from this podcast, but in general David and Matt found this question somewhat offensive, as it suggests you can chase a problem (father rejected me) with a method, in this case recommending a good movie. We, instead, would recommend TEAM CBT, which is real therapy, and not gimmicks. Movies can be rewarding, but that's not the same as effective therapy! Rhonda asked David and Matt what was wrong with recommending a movie in the same way we recommend books for clients to read. Have a listen to hear their response. Question #4 Anonymous asks: I don't know how to identify my feelings. Can you help? David's Answer Rhonda said one of her clients could not identify their feelings, unless they have the Feelings Chart in front of them. David thought that anyone could identify their feelings and explained. One simple way is to identify a specific moment when you were upset and wanting help. Think about what was going on, who wee you with, where were you, etc. Then review the Feeling Words charts, which I will link to, to see how many, and which ones, resonate with how you were feeling at that time, or how you may still be feeling. Feeling Words Chart with Five Secrets, v 2 Another way is to draw a Stick Figure of yourself, and put a bubble above its head. Then imagine the Stick Figure is upset and put the Stick Figure's negative thoughts and feelings in the bubble. They don't have to be your feelings and thoughts, just make some up. Do it now—on paper! DON'T just think about it. That never works! Have you done it yet? No? That's what I suspected. If you ever DO want the answer to your question, so the stick figure on paper and then write me back. Thanks! Finally, you can listen to the podcast on "I Feel" Statements, and spend one week telling five people a day how you feel, using words from the Feeling Words Chart. For example, when checking groceries you could tell the clerk, "I'm feeling happy because we have such beautiful weather today." Or, "I'm feeling really frustrated with politics this morning!" Or whatever. Thanks for listening today! Matt, Rhonda, and David

So we received a message from John who told us a very funny story about playing golf with a fancy lawyer whose driver ended up stuck in a tree. Wonder if he could hold that tree in 'contempt of course' ?? (see what we did there?).Anyway, John went on to ask what funny things Nick and Mark have ever seen on the golf course....and once the memory bank started flowing, oh my gosh were there some stories!Mark had a story about a putter in a tree;Nick once saw a caddy quit mid round in a tournament after his Pro was behaving badly.A fantastic story about Seve Ballesteros, we hear the audioJohn Daly sacking someone, and hiring them in a different role - one related to some of his non-golf interests. We remember the time US Pro Hannah Gregg came across a massive snake in the halfway house on an Australian golf course with Mark making an outrageous claim about Rory McIlroy. The extremely amusing, although not for him, incident involving Mike Clayton many years ago.And we finish hearing a fun video from a comedian on TikTok called Max Price about a day on the course...sort of...very funny. You can follow him here. Ooops....hang on, whilst we're listening to and watching the video, Nick remembers one other very funny story about when he played the Presidents Cup in Montreal involving one of the US Team Members. Thanks John for the idea, this was fun! We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:BMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; And watchMynumbers and Southern Golf Club. Great result in the week, can they follow it up at home? Oh yes they can! Archie, Chris, James and Seve have the pleasure of discussing a performance for the ages against a very strong Cardiff team. The game. It started quickly and didn't relent from there. A chance created from nothing early on set the tone, and even a Watts sitter going straight at the goalkeeper didn't quell a constant flow of opportunities for both teams. A great move and a fantastic finish from Tolaj, Pepple with a second, set up a crazy run of goals where every attack from both teams resulted in a finish. 3–2 at half-time and it could have been more. Things slowed down a little in the second half but, as in the week, the further the game went on, the more Argyle dominated. Two set-pieces, a perfect penalty and, who would have thought we'd be saying this, Ross unplayable from a perfect corner. Perfect is the word. What a day for those home fans who have not had the best of seasons.Part 2 and talk of two potential games at Wembley does start to feel possible. Momentum, positivity and team spirit really seem to matter, and even the most negative grinch is excited for a quarter-final at Luton in the AutoWindscreensPizzaTu Cup. And a huge shout-out to Argyle Women for a nervy (in a great way) win. What a week. COYG Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This episode features Tommaso, a vineyard consultant whose career spans from Venice and Montalcino to Burgundy, Bordeaux, and other renowned wine regions. Tommaso discusses his background in viticulture, the technical aspects of working in different European vineyards, and how he manages various grape varieties and regional challenges. The conversation highlights real-world issues such as vineyard management, adapting to climate change, and the critical decisions involved in harvest timing and vine care. A significant part of the discussion focuses on the curretage technique, a method for removing diseased wood from vines using specialized tools. Tommaso explains the origins of this approach, how it is applied in European vineyards, and its role in combating trunk diseases. The episode also covers Tommaso's work as a viticultural consultant specializing team training for vineyard surgery, adapting vineyard design to environmental pressures, and practical steps for maintaining vine health. This episode is well-suited for listeners interested in the technical and operational side of vineyard management.

This is fun. Today we chat with the 1993 Singapore Open Champion and wolfpacker Paul Moloney who has a couple of great stories. He starts with a story about a one on one masterclass essentially that he had with Seve Ballesteros in Paris, and recounts what Seve was practising and aiming to do with his putting. Fascinating insights. And then a story about playing on Madeira Island with Gabriel Hjertstedt and some of the hairier moments in getting onto and off the island which has quite a unique climate, and airport.Mark recounts one of the two most amazing things he has ever seen in golf, once of which involved Gabriel. Nick talks about his experience playing on Madeira Island and why he has no desire to go back. And we finish with Mark giving Paul a belated (by 32-years) thank you for something significant in his career that came about due to Paul. Welcome to this week's edition of Next on the Tee — where golf legends live and your game gets better. I truly appreciate you being here and pressing play. I'm really excited to share this episode with you because it features two wonderful friends—one who has been very dear to me for years and another new friend who I hope will be joining me many times going forward. Leading things off is Matthew Laurance, a longtime favorite of this show and someone I've been blessed to call a close friend. Many of you know Matthew from his iconic role as Sal Amatto, the fictional bass player in Eddie & the Cruisers—easily one of my all-time favorite movies. What started as a social media connection grew into appearances on Thursday Night Tailgate, and those conversations eventually turned into a genuine friendship. This time around, Matthew shares his thoughts on the direction the PGA Tour appears to be heading, which feels like a sharp turn away from the long-standing focus on “growing the game.” We also dive into why Seve became his all-time favorite player, his lingering disappointment from the 1986 Masters, and revisit stories from Eddie & the Cruisers—including what it's like for him when On the Dark Side comes on the radio while he's driving. In Segment 2, I'm thrilled to welcome Steve Strano for his Next on the Tee debut. Steve is the son of my gumba Rob Strano, so you know right away he's going to be a great guest. Steve is an entrepreneur who is helping to resurrect a legendary and nearly forgotten brand of putters. That brand is Otey Putters, which helped legends like Jimmy Demaret, Dr. Cary Middlecoff, Jackie Burke Jr., and Doug Ford win five Masters between 1947 and 1957. Steve's passion for Otey is contagious, and during our conversation, he had me completely fired up about these beautifully handcrafted putters, still made in their original factory in Selma, Alabama, by Otey Crisman III, the son of former PGA Tour pro Otey Crisman. You're going to love Steve's energy, his respect for the history of the brand, and the care that goes into every putter. Be sure to check them out at OteyThree.com. Thanks again for being here and for pressing play on this week's show. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed bringing it to you.

Two wins in a row. So surely everyone is bouncing off the walls with pre-Christmas cheer. Well, not quite.Liam and Seve join regulars Archie, Mark and Chris, and in Part One pragmatism is the name of the game. Some outstanding performances at the back, slowly tapering the further up the field, punctuated by a great goal just before half-time. Should we expect more, or is it misery to do anything but applaud another back-to-the-wall effort? The bar is low, but we are starting to clear it.We also have a voice note from journalist John Duerden, sharing his full-time thoughts. John has a new website launching on 1st January: “An outsider's view of the ups and downs of Plymouth Argyle FC. Features, news, interviews & much more.” Part Two sees the return of the quiz! We look back a couple of years to a very different Rotherham game and pine for a squad that, in hindsight, had some absolute superstars. Having a copy of the squad from the season before is NOT cheating.Part Three tries to tie things in festive bows. Are we actually improving, or is this a false dawn? Should we be happy with what we've got, or demand more? Or should we take it all a little less seriously and enjoy the moment? The diversity of opinion reflects an unusual time for the club, where a slide down or a spring up seems equally possible.Six-pointer next at Doncaster. Let's hope the rebuild continues… Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

[REDIFFUSION]Nous sommes tous mus par d'indénombrables désirs. C'est leur variété et leur intensité qui nous pousse à agir et nous donne le sentiment d'être pleinement vivants. Rory is king of Europe again but does this cement his as our best ever ahead of Seve and Faldo?
This is once again a Victory Monday episode of The Shotgun Start as Caleb Williams led a game-winning drive in Minnesota to push the Bears to 7-3 on the year. Andy is absolutely buzzing following the divisional win but was even more excited about the finish of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on Sunday morning. Adam Schenk hung on against 40 mph winds to secure his first PGA Tour win and guarantee his status for the 2026 season. Andy and Brendan run through an incredible Sunday of television as Tour veterans and young players battled the elements on a small island in the middle of the ocean. They pitch that maybe the Butterfield should be a Signature Event to give fans a chance to watch the best players in the world try to figure out the wind patterns for four days of competition. Not to be outdone, the DP World Tour Championship went to a playoff between Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick. Fitz ended up with the win, putting a bow on a season that had him fall outside the top 80 in OWGR only to now have him back inside the top 25 heading into the new year. Andy and Brendan then take a look at the "Year of Rory" following his seventh Race to Dubai title, tying Seve's mark for second place all time. Potential Ryder Cup captain Stewart Cink chased down Steven Alker in Phoenix to become the first player since 2017 to win both the Schwab Cup Championship and the season-long honors. Champions Tour Minute also includes some Tiger Woods chatter following a Golfweek article published on Friday about his potential involvement on the senior circuit in 2026. This episode closes with a brief bit of news involving a back surgery for Justin Thomas that will keep him out of action for the first part of next season.
A feedback pod today and we start by looking at a tweet from golf stats guy Lou Stagner that a wolfpacker sent in, both Nick and Mark enjoy Lou's insights usually, but this time he has made a comment that they both vehemently disagree with regarding the St Andrews Old Course. We discuss the Old Course and why it is special. Mark brings up the 1984 Open Championship, famous for Seve, but tells the story of what happened to Ian Baker-Finch on the last shot of the day as a result of the sprinkler the night before. Speaking of IBF, Paul has written in with a suggestion for Australian golf coverage. Ken replies to wolfpacker Martins comments last weeks about The Players being a possible major, and Ken pretty much gives everyone a whack - Nick, Mark, Golf Australia. We discuss some of the players currently re-signing with LIV.Scott has an idea regarding the Australian Masters, and it reminds us that we've not reviewed Royal Sydney yet - if you've played it, we'd love your thoughts. And we finish on a comment from Paul about returning to golf after some tideway, and the difference hybrids have made for him. Bethpage Black is almost upon us and we've got a bumper preview show ahead of a mouthwatering match up between the USA and Europe. Tom Irwin sits down with Ryder Cup legend Justin Rose, who's about to make his seventh appearance in European colours. Tom and Justin talk about his commitment to the sport through the Rose Ladies Series, barriers to participation, as well as his longevity following another successful season. But, of course, they also talk about the Ryder Cup: What does he expect the atmosphere to be like at Bethpage? Should Keegan Bradley have picked himself? He also relives the Miracle of Medinah and Seve's enduring legacy as a European icon. And, of course, with a vacancy for a skipper at Adare Manor in two years' time, how does the captaincy look? If that's not enough, Tom and co-host Steve Carroll also run the rule over golf's greatest team event. Can Europe defy the New York crowds and bring the trophy back with them? On the morning of his long-awaited trip to document golf in Scotland without a set itinerary, Seve Saiz found his car window smashed and his clubs, equipment and clothes all missing. Instead of canceling his trip, Seve left anyway and documented his trip on an old camcorder using rented clubs while travelling across Scotland in a camper. His story piqued our interest, so TC caught up with Seve to relive it all. We won! We won convincingly! Alex hosts with Chris and Seve both over the moon to talk through the best performance of the season. So far…In part one, a review of all four - four! - goals. Improved set plays, a couple of strokes for the ages and a competent, clinical number 9 all draw praise. Some comical defending, a dodgy penalty and a late consolation for the visitors do little to dampen the mood. Part two sees a wider perspective. Managerial flexibility, loan signings, some confusing club comms and, sadly in a sign of the times, the club statement on racist abuse are the focus before a sense check on League One and our progress to date. One for the ‘you are too negative' listeners, it's amazing what a win can do. Tom, Mark, Chris and Seve discuss the challenges facing Argyle as they prepare for League One. With Maxi in a taxi, the squad is amid a big rebuild but really lacking a talisman or three, and opinions vary as to whether we are in limbo, whether it is too early to say, or whether this is the extent of our buying power. The team then reminisce about the players to wear the no.10 shirt this century, in a sort-of quiz. Last week Nick listed his Top 5 shots to win your first major, and he did it off the top of his head with only a couple of minutes to consider it. He was pretty sure he'd missed a couple of obvious ones, so we had a competition for the Wolfpack to suggest ones Nick had missed. And a great prize.....$250 bucks to spend on the Golf Clearance Outlet, online or instore, and a teams entry (you and a friend) into the Golfies 2-person Ambrose tournament which starts in September, and if you win 8 matches you win a trip to Thailand worth 25 grand....!!!!Lots of suggestions on shots Nick overlooked. Shots from Seve, Bubba, Corey Pavin, Geoff Ogilvy, Paul Lawrie, Webb Simpson, Y E Yang, Adam Scott, Cam Smith and Jerry Pate.Plenty of good suggestions, some Nick and Mark agreed with, some they didn't - but one shot stood out above the others for Nick, and he chose that one to go into his Top 5 (which meant he had to axe one). And one wolfpacker now has 250 bucks to spend at the Golf Clearance Outlet, and a teams entry in the Golfies tournament.....which you can get 40% off if you use the discount code 'Birdies' - all the dates and info here. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Inverse 22, it says, "So it was that the beggar died and was carried bythe angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried." Twopeople, a beggar named Lazarus, and a rich man, both had to face death. Then,in verse 23, it says the rich man died and was buried, "and being intorments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarusin his bosom." Somehow, there in paradise, there in Hades, there inSheol, with this great gulf fixed between them, the rich man could literallysee the pleasures of heaven, and he's forever condemned in torment. So he criedand said, "Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that hemay dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am tormentedin this flame." But Abraham said, "Son, remember that in yourlifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; butnow he is comforted, and you are tormented. And besides all this, between usand you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from hereto you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us." Wesee that hell is a place where you have all your faculties. He had eyes, “helifted up his eyes”. He had a tongue, "Please send him to dip hisfinger in water and cool my tongue; I'm tormented." He was tormented;he had physical feelings in hell. You hear people say, "Well, if I go tohell, all my friends will be there," thinking they'll have a New Year'sEve party for eternity. My friend, that is not the truth. There'll be noparties in hell. It's a place of screaming, crying, and torment for eternity. You don't want to go there, and you don't want your friends to go there. Thenthe rich man cried in verse 27, saying, "I beg you therefore, father, that you would send Lazarus to my father's house. I have five brothers, that hemight testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment."Abraham said to him, "They have Moses and the prophets; let them hearthem." And he said, "No, Father Abraham, but if one goes to them fromthe dead, they will repent." But Abraham replied, "If they do nothear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rosefrom the dead." How interesting, because later there would be a mannamed Lazarus who rose from the dead in John 11, and they wanted to kill him.Instead of believing in Jesus and trusting Him, they still would not get saved. Myfriend, I'm telling you, people don't need miracles to get saved and believe. They get saved by faith in the words of the Lord Jesus Christ while they'reliving, because the Holy Spirit, through the Word of God, the law and theprophets, convicts them that they need to repent and in faith turn to JesusChrist. This is a story that ought to cause us to shake us in our boots, shakeus to our knees, shake us to pray and cry out to God for mercy! And do all wecan to warn our friends, our family, our neighbors, that they do not want to goto this terrible place. Please warn them! Abrahamsaid, "In your lifetime, you were comforted. You had good things."The problem for most people going to hell is that they're enjoying the goodthings of life; money and the things money buys. Remember, Jesus was speakingprimarily to the Pharisees in this passage, who loved money rather than God.Jesus was telling them, "If you keep down that path, this is where you'llend up." We have no evidence that they ever turned from their love ofmoney, materialism, the things of this world, the lust of the eyes, or the lustof the flesh. Myfriend, today, please turn to Jesus Christ. Do all you can to keep others fromgoing there. Pray, love, give, and live a life that shows there is a difference, and that reflects the peace of God, that you have when you know Jesus Christ. For sure, all of us one day will have to face God and judgment. Godbless.
Tom is joined by Seve, Mark and Chris to pick apart Argyle's 2–1 defeat away at Middlesbrough. The panel reflect on a frustrating afternoon that saw chances go begging, debate the key decisions and goings-on in the game, the exploits of familiar faces in Finn Azaz and Morgan Whittaker as well as thoughts on the future of the club's recruitment, before concluding on where it leaves the team with 3 games to save their season.Support the show Hosted on Acast.
