Send us Fan MailJoin and Jim and Steve as they review the first episode of the TV series Gerry Anderson: Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons! Have you seen some of those new movies where they put muppets in serious dramas and such? Well, CS is a lot like that except, you know, the puppets are bit more creepy versus lovable. Throw in some outrageous French accents and Cold War set dressing and you have a real keeper for the kids...I think this was made for kids? Keep watching the shows!

In this episode of Puppets Go BOOM!, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 1968 sci-fi espionage series Joe 90. A young 9 year old boy named Joe McClaine is helping his adopted father Ian "Mac" McClaine testing his invention the Brain Impulse Galvanoscope Record and Transfer (BIG RAT) where it sends pre-recorded brain wave patterns into the recipient sitting on it. After the test is successful, Sam Loomer, an agent of the World Intelligence Network (WIN) sees the potential of the BIG RAT and Joe, so he proposes to have him as their youngest secret agent with the alias Joe 90. Thanks to the BIG RAT, Joe is able to get the knowledge of pilots, secret agents, piano players, military colonels, racecar drivers, and spies. Armed with a pair of glasses to bring the brain waves into his head, a badge, a walkie talkie, and a gun inside a briefcase, Joe goes on various missions to save people from harm as well as preventing shady weapon trading, assassinations, tortures, and murders from happening. When the show premiered, it was released during the height of the James Bond films being released as well as both The Avengers and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. airing on TV. Kids gravitated to the show putting themselves into Joe 90's adventures wanting to be just like him. However, Joe 90 wasn't as beloved compared to its previous Supermarionation shows due to being more child-oriented and having a smaller cast of characters compared to Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. What did Arun and Patricia think of it? Listen and find out.
In this episode of Puppets Go BOOM!, Arun and Patricia discuss about the 1967 sci-fi series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. Taken place in 2068, Captain Black and his crew traveled to Mars to track a mysterious radio signal. They found out that it came from the inhabitants of Mars, the Mysterons. Believing they were going to be attacked, Captain Black and his crew attacks the Mysterons. Vowing for revenge, the Mysterons kills Captain Black and control his mind making him their primary agent to take down his former organization Spectrum led by Colonel White. They almost killed and controlled one of Spectrum's agents Captain Scarlet, but he eventually broke out of their control and is now indestructible. Captain Scarlet, together with Captain Blue and the all female pilots, the Angels, learn more about the Mysterons as they kill off people or destroy vehicles and control them to try to destroy them. Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons marked a major change in Supermarionation where the puppets were more realistic looking and had more dynamic cinematography due to Gerry Anderson wanting to stray away from doing movies and shows featuring puppets and doing more live action projects instead. It also went in a darker direction where the violence was increased and the action was more intense than previous Supermarionation shows. For some people, they loved it. Others felt it was too dark and took away the charm of the previous shows, especially after the major success of Thunderbirds. What did Arun and Patricia think of the show?

In this episode, we take an in-depth look at Portishead's groundbreaking debut album Dummy, ranked #67 on Apple Music's Top 100 Albums of All Time. Released in 1994, Dummy helped shape the trip-hop genre with its brooding atmosphere, hypnotic beats, and haunting vocals from Beth Gibbons. We'll explore how the band fused elements of jazz, hip-hop, and electronica to create a dark, cinematic soundscape that still resonates today. From the eerie tension of "Mysterons" and the spy-film vibes of "Sour Times" to the emotional depth of "Roads" and the iconic "Glory Box," we break down each track and discuss what made this album so influential. Tune in for a journey into one of the most important albums of the '90s and how it continues to shape modern music.

After Captain Black inadvertently exposes himself to radiation, thus making himself detectable on long-range Geiger counters, Spectrum mobilises its forces to apprehend the Mysterons' primary agent.
In a remote diner in Phoenix, Arizona, Spectrum flight engineer Xander Story makes contact with two Mysteron agents. Story agrees to destroy Spectrum's Skybase in return for the aliens' promise that they will halt their war on mankind – he accepts a fusion bomb in a briefcase and also a large payment. Captain Scarlet gatecrashes the meeting but is shot and killed. Knowing that his body will regenerate, the Mysterons try to engineer Scarlet's total destruction in a massive explosion. Captain Blue finds his devastated corpse and takes it to Skybase. Doctor Gold finds that Scarlet's injuries are too severe, and with no sign of the retrometabolisation process taking place, he pronounces the agent dead. While Destiny and Blue grieve for their lost friend, Story plants the bomb on Skybase, set to an hour's delay. In sickbay, Scarlet regains consciousness, only to find that no one can see or hear him, and that he has somehow become intangible, yet somehow he must warn Destiny and Blue about the bomb.
No longer under the Mysterons' control, but retaining their power of "retro-metabolism", Captain Scarlet joins Spectrum's operation to protect the aliens' next target – the Director General of the United Asian Republic.
Threatening to destroy the "Place of the Angels", the Mysterons engineer the theft of a lethal virus from a research centre.
En este episodio de El Álbum Esencial conversamos sobre “Dummy”, el álbum debut de Portishead, lanzado el año 1994.
Captain Scarlet and Destiny Angel are at a Spectrum training Base in Castle Balmeath, Scotland. The base commander, Astrid Winters, is turned into a Mysteron, but tells Scarlet she only wants to help humanity end the war and that she was sent by represents of a faction of the Mysteron consciousness which believes the war with Earth is a mistake. Winters is willing to pass the secret of defeating the Mysterons to Colonel White alone, but all the forces that the Mysterons can bring to bear will be ranged against her getting that far.
Its a double show this time - the first time we talk about the first two episodes of a show, and the first time we feature a hero AND a villain. Captain Scarlet's the Mysterons and Spectrum agent (short lived) Captain Brown.
We're back with three short sci-fi films and a very special guest. But be warned! We will return and we will be avenged! andr.sn/podcast
With the Dads decimated by a combination of birthdays, studying and paddle board salesman conventions it's left to Peter and Sidey to bring us the epic conclusion to the strong Puppet theme which has taken over this week's show. Starting with the Top 5 Puppets, naturally, the guys are on hand to discuss some rarely featured films and tv. Listen in, or don't, there's no strings attached and it's all very heart felt. Sorry. All you have to do to emotionally reconcile with your son is saw your own arm off in Jodie Foster's THE BEAVER (2011) which asks its viewer to suspend disbelief for a number of wild ideas, including that it would be possible to move an enormous mural from a downtown city wall to a bedroom without ripping it or damaging it any way, either during the removal or reapplication of the painting process. Mel Gibson plays Walter Black, once a devoted husband, loving father and successful businessman whose suicide is unfortunately interrupted by a hand puppet he found discarded in a dumpster. Allowing The Beaver (Mel Gibson) to talk for him, Walter begins to reintegrate back into his life, with the furry glove enriching the people around him in various nonsensical ways dictated by a screenplay so mechanically obvious that Mel hits rock bottom at exactly two-thirds the running time. Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence are fine actors stuck in a chemistry-less dead brother romance sub-plot which has the pair arrested seconds after graffitiing a wall late at night only for Lawrence to then presumably return in broad daylight and complete her design without any interference and also has nothing whatsoever to do thematically with the main story. Foster's acting performance is probably fine in a thin role as Walter's wife which requires her to instantly accept the premise (good job someone did) but also have a threesome with the hairy, wild-eyed wood-eater and the Beaver. Pedestrian direction, an uneven tone and an almost completely humourless approach all contrive to make this uninteresting to watch even if you're tempted to, because despite Gibson mining his own pain, this is little more than a cynical public image rescue exercise designed to garner sympathy. Give this one a miss folks. To the legions of CAPTAIN SCARLETT AND THE MYSTERONS fans now flocking to the podcast in eager anticipation of their favourite show finally getting the Bad Dads treatment, I can only apologise because just as with LAWRENCE OF ARABIA I didn't watch this one and so can't fairly comment on the first ever episode of this classic Super Mario Bros Animation thing. I have only dim memories of this, a darker THUNDERBIRDS, and scale model wars with the mysterious Mysterons. Hey do you think that's where they get their name? From being mysterious? This was probably amazing, let's say that.We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. Try us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review or on our website baddadsfilm.com. Until next time, we remain... Bad Dads
