In his latest update, JP describes being invited to be part of an avatar program run out of Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. JP was summoned to the secret Eglin facility where he was shown an avatar program using multiple soldiers hooked up to an advanced technology system where their consciousness could be monitored and transferred. When JP asked the doctors what the avatars looked like, there was a reference to clones built in distant facilities such as Jupiter who would be used.JP was told that he had actually been used in the avatar program previously but has no recollection. It's possible that JP missions to Ganymede, may have involved him being transferred there via the avatar program rather than spacecraft. JP says that while he declined the opportunity to go on another missions via the avatar program, he is willing to do so in future. In addition to Eglin, JP says that similar avatar programs are run out of two other military facilities he is familiar with: MacDill AFB and Navsciatts, Mississippi. For more JP updates visit: https://exopolitics.org/jp-articles-photos-videos/

Prophecy Radio episode #130 sees Karen and Kristen discussing the next two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. They also discuss Walker Scobell's comments about the upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:09:14) We kick off the episode talking about our anticipation (or lack thereof) for the Super Bowl, plus our excitement for Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros. Have you ever listened to a graphic audio before? Do you have a spreadsheet for all the books you're reading this year? Happy belated birthday to Walker Scobell! Filming for season 2 has officially wrapped, and we speculate about the possible release date. Walker won the Rising Star Award at the 2025 SCAD TVfest! Speaking with TV Insider, Walker says the beginning of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 will start in a slightly different place from the book—but we're not worried. We're so ready for more action in season 2, and we're excited to see what more they add to the show that isn't in the books. Sometimes we forget how long it takes for Annabeth and Percy to actually get together. They have a looooong road ahead of them. Tyson is SO important to this series, and it sounds like Daniel Diemer has impressed Diehard Percy Jackson Fan Walker Scobell. We're also excited there will be more practical sets, and we're curious how the Volume will come into play this season. Could we see Director Walker Scobell some day!? Rick answered some questions on Goodreads recently, and he's said Clarisse will have a sizeable role in season 2 and that Dior is bringing her A game! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:22:05) Okay, let's jump into Chalice of the Gods chapter 30. Where did we last leave Percy and where is he headed now? Percy takes in the sights as he heads toward the kitchen. Did we see the street-cleaning rhinoceros in the TV show? We're obsessed with the fact that satyrs give botanical directions. Percy is smart to question why the gods have kitchens full of staff, and the reason makes SO MUCH SENSE. Did you catch the Ghostbusters reference!? It must be so uncomfortable to sweat Greek Fire. There was A LOT of detailed description in this chapter. How many of you knew what a conversation pit was? We play a pretty easy game of Two Truths and a Lie. It's time to talk about our favorite lines and favorite moments from this chapter! Next up, Chalice of the Gods chapter 31. It might be cliché, but hiding under the pastry cart as his new BFF Barbara wheels him into the banquet hall works wonders. And in exchange, all Percy has to do is provide Barbara with an Annabeth Chase meet-and-greet opportunity. Do nymphs and dryads see demigods as celebrities? What's scarier—facing down a lion or Percy's future mother-in-law? Really, Athena spotting him is best-case scenario because any of the others might've caused trouble for Percy. We appreciate that Rick doesn't shy away from how gross Zeus actually is. Imagine what TOO MUCH praise would mean to Ganymede? Did you figure out what a demi-bag was? Did we want more of a scene in the banquet? Would it have worked out for Percy if there was more of a confrontation? Sometimes Percy is a little lucky! Time for our favorite lines and favorite moments from this chapter. Feedback (00:57:06) Solomon wonders if Annabeth could give Percy his third quest. It's an interesting question, and we have a theory of our own! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 131, where we'll discuss the latest Percy Jackson news, along with Chalice of the Gods chapters 32 and 33. Be sure to check out Episode 450 for our prior Chapter 14 analysis! Despite lots of folks being divided, we focus on examples of residents at Hogwarts helping fellow students out! Including: Nearly-Headless Nick saving Harry's life (probably). What is the meaning behind Filch's baseless claims against Harry? Ron Weasley, a smart character, has an idea that even Hermione agrees with! When Percy's letter arrives, Harry and Ron are shocked. We go through what the worst parts are about what he wrote to his brother and why. Andrew asks: Have we ever been asked by a family member to 'sever ties' with another? And what were the consequences? The chapter ends with Sirius's conversation, and a few Odds and Ends. MVP: What should Ron have said (or written) back to Percy? Lynx Line: Our patrons have drafted their coded messages to Sirius, describing the plot of their favorite movie in a way that Umbridge would not understand. What's the difference between a maser and a megamaser? How does uncertainty lead science to its newest discoveries? To find out, Dr. Charles Liu and co-host Allen Liu welcome back radio astronomer Dr. Jackie Villadsen, a professor at Bucknell University currently researching star/planet magnetic interaction in exoplanet systems. As always, though, we start off with the day's joyfully cool cosmic thing. In November 2024 a group of researchers announced that they'd found a series of megamasers around the supermassive black hole system NGC1068, and that for the first time ever, they'd measured the polarization of the water megamasers. Jackie, who studies a different kind of maser, explains what they are (“just a really, really big laser pointer in space that shoots out radio waves or microwaves”) and why they're important. Jackie studies masers around nearby stars, which are much smaller than megamasers that can be seen from other galaxies. Allen shares the fact that some megamasers can be around half a parsec (trillions of miles) across and bigger than our entire solar system. Then it's time for our first question for Jackie. It's from Guadalupe, who says, “I recall reading or watching a video that stated there is liquid on Mars beneath an "ice cap" - is that right?” According to Dr. Villadsen, the question is right on the cutting edge of our understanding, with promising evidence emerging right now that suggests the answer might be yes, although more investigation is necessary before we can confirm it. After our break, Jackie tells us about the research she's doing using the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) while on her current sabbatical. You'll hear about Karl Jansky's breakthrough discovery of radio waves from space made nearly 100 years ago. Jackie brings us up to speed on the evolution of radio astronomy and why we're able to get more data than ever out of the same telescopes. Our next question comes from Bryant: “What do you think would have happened if the universe was created a bit earlier than usual? Would anything have changed?” It turns out, there's more than one way to look at this speculative question, and Jackie and Chuck ponder the possibility of having miscalculated the age of the universe and the impact that an older universe would have on the rate of universal expansion, the perception of dark energy, and more. Next up, Jackie tells us about the research she and her colleagues (including grad students!) have been involved with looking for star/planet magnetic interaction in nearby exoplanet systems. The search is inspired by the interaction in our solar system between the magnetic field of Jupiter and two of its closest moons, Io and Ganymede. While there are no confirmed examples yet, they already have one candidate out of the seven exoplanet systems they've studied. Our next question comes from Samuel, who asks, “As an astrophysics professor, how is the work-life balance and overall lifestyle of a researcher? My dream is to become a mechanical engineer in the field of astrophysics.” Jackie explains how she approaches work, and what it took to reach the balanced state she's in now compared to when she was a grad student. We end the episode with another of Jackie's book recommendations. Last time she was here she recommended the adult sci-fi romance, “The Ladies Guide to Celestial Mechanics” by Olivia Waite. This time, it's another adult sci-fi romance with a bit of a mystery woven through it, “The Stars Too Fondly” by Emily Hamilton. The title is taken from a poem, “The Old Astronomer to His Pupil” by Sarah Williams, from which Jackie reads a snippet. She and Chuck also discuss one of their favorite poems, “The Learned Astronomer,” by Walt Whitman, found in his collection, “Leaves of Grass.” We hope you enjoy this episode of The LIUniverse, and, if you do, please support us on Patreon. The Moon probably was born when the young Earth was hit by another planet. That blasted a lot of debris into space. Much of it came together to form the Moon. But Earth wasn’t the only world to get smacked around in the early solar system. One of the others might have been Ganymede, the largest moon of Jupiter. A recent study suggested that a giant asteroid slammed into it, making it wobble for a thousand years. Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system – bigger than the planet Mercury. It probably has an ocean of liquid water below its icy crust. The ocean might be 60 miles deep, and hold more water than all of Earth’s oceans combined. The new study looked at some long ripples on the surface, the way Ganymede spins, and other evidence. Researchers then used computer models to simulate Ganymede’s history. Their work suggested that Ganymede was hit by an asteroid about four billion years ago. The asteroid was almost 200 miles in diameter, and hit near the north pole. That caused Ganymede to wobble. Eventually, it flipped over on its side. What had been the equator became the poles as Ganymede settled down after a massive impact. Jupiter is close to our moon at nightfall. It looks like a brilliant star. Aldebaran, the brightest star of Taurus, is to the lower right of Jupiter. Binoculars reveal Jupiter’s four big moons, including Ganymede – a world that might have suffered a “big whack” billions of years ago. Script by Damond Benningfield

Prophecy Radio episode #129 brings Karen and Kristen back together again to discuss the next two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. They also dip into a quick look at the brand new Percy Jackson cookbook, full of some truly unique recipes. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:59) Check out this fun Reel for a better glimpse at the PJO premiere last year Check out Graci Kim's website to sign up for the Dreamslinger league. Karen got a copy of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Official Cookbook as a late Christmas present. It's a perfect gift for Percy Jackson fans, especially if they like to throw parties for premiere weeks or in celebration of new books. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:21:21) Let's start off our Chalice of the Gods discussion with chapter 28, "It Starts Raining Toys" Gary is more than a little shell-shocked at Percy's choices. Percy takes a moment to reflect on his mom's parents, and what it would be like if they had survived. Gary wants to know why Percy offered hugs instead of muscle. We are grateful that Gary has agreed that Percy has more life to live. Gary has one more thing to ask Percy before he excuses himself in a poof! Not everyone is like the gods, and Percy gives Gary hope. Annabeth and Grover congratulate Percy on his brilliant gamble. A hula hoop falls from the sky, which means Ganymede has a message for our trio. Zeus has invited his mom over, which means, the chalice needs to find its way home... now. Our favorite lines and moments We also get to discuss Chalice of the Gods chapter 29, "I Teeter on the Precipice of Mount Brunch" Percy hates brunch. Like HATES it. What the heck do gods eat for brunch, anyway? No, Percy cannot FEDEx the chalice back to Ganymede. Major bummer. Annabeth heads to school, while Percy and Grover head to the Empire State Building. Grover knows someone who can get them into the brunch, as long as they find the side door to the Olympus kitchens. Percy tries on Annabeth's Yankees cap of invisibility. It makes him feel fuzzy and weird. We brainstorm better names for a satyr dating app. Satyr-er leave a bit to be desired. Grover shakes his woolmaker to distract the Empire State security guards so Percy can sneak onto the elevator. Percy worries the chalice may have a "one ring" thing going on. Our favorite lines and moments Feedback (00:53:35) Maria Steinmetz reached out on Instagram to let us know she signed up for a class with Roshani Chokshi. We hope its as amazing as we imagine! Prophecy Radio episode #127 finds Karen and Kristen back to discuss the next two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. We catch up on the board games we've played and loved recently (and tell a traumatic board game memory) before discussing the latest news from Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Finally, we discuss chapters 24 and 25 of Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:09:37) We decide not to worry about the D23 trailer since it has so little new footage for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. We are ready and waiting for a real Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 trailer, though. We do have some minor casting announcements to talk about. You can take a look at all the info on the minor casting right here. Timothy Simons as Tantalus, who keeps an eye on activities in Chiron's absence. Kevin Chacon has been recast as Chris Rodriguez We take issue with the article calling him a villain, though. Rosemarie DeWitt will be our C.C. (AKA Circe) Who is not to be confused with Calypso or any other water-related C-named goddesses Aleks Paunovic will be our Polyphemus, although we're not sure to what degree. If they had only cast him for his voice, they would have mentioned that in the announcement, right? Last, but certainly not least, we have our new non-book character played by Beatrice Kitsos … or is she?! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:29:00) Chapter 24 starts with Percy waking up from a good old regular dream where all the gods were pregnant. And of course it was Annabeth sneaking in his window that woke him. She has a lot to tell him about what she learned about concetrated nectar from Juniper. Is this book influencing the show? Or is the show influencing this book? Percy gave good advice to Grover. Sally would not have a problem with Annabeth in Percy's room. She'd probably just make tea. Trusting moms are some of the best parts of supernatural-being-living-in-a-human-world stories. Annabeth Chase: Scheduler Extraordinaire! We share our favorite lines and moments. Time for chapter 25! And its a big one. Doughnuts to start the day, then time to plug noses and get to work. The menthol to koala/eucalyptus thing took a minute to process. Our trio gets split up by the drops of nectar. Of course Percy is in trouble the minute he's off on his own. Time to meet Gary! He has a very specific look, and its not a flattering one. The god of old age stole the chalice that stops people from getting old. It goes against the natural order of things. Since Percy is the only human to turn down immortality, Geras wanted to give him a chance to understand why this god would steal from Ganymede. Karen reminds us of that reference last week that makes a lot more sense now that we're in the know. Gary is not happy with Percy's reaction and is totally ready to turn him to gravedust. Percy wants to see if there's a deal to be struck. The challenge Geras throws down is not exactly what you would expect… Time to close things out with more favorite lines and favorite moments! Feedback No feedback this week, but we look forward to hearing all your board game recs for next week's episode! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 128, where we'll discuss the latest Percy Jackson news, along with Chalice of the Gods chapters 26 & 27. Prophecy Radio episode #126 finds Karen and Kristen back for a third week in a row (even though it's a little behind schedule). We share what we've been watching lately before discussing the latest news from Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Finally, we discuss chapters 22 and 23 of Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:06:51) The 3rd Annual Children's & Family Emmy Nominees are out, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians scored a bunch of them! Isn't it exciting that Leah Jeffries has been nominated for an Emmy!? What exactly is a show open? They've got a great chance of getting an award for set dressing. It's great to see a nomination for stunt coordination! Out of all the nominees, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is definitely one of the biggest and most popular shows. Here's the Variety article Kristen was referencing. In case you missed it like we did, we discuss the November blog update on Rick's website. Wrath of the Triple Goddess by Rick Riordan, Pahua and the Dragon's Secret by Lori M. Lee, and The Dark Becomes Her by Judy I. Lin are all available now. A Touch of Blood, the Drop of Venom companion novel, by Sajni Patel is out on February 25 We're also getting a new Nico and Will novel! What could Book 2 possibly be about?? We have a few ideas. There will be another Senior Year Adventure Book, but it won't be out in 2025. We try to figure out a timeline for when his next books will be coming out. We're so excited he said Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 is “better, bigger, funnier, faster and wilder” than the first season. What other adaptations is Rick working on at the moment? Walker has gotten SO BIG in the last year or so. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:31:05) Let's kick off our Chalice of the Gods discussion with chapter 22 today. We love a woman who hyphenates her last name. Annabeth taking up a culinary class and building famous landmarks out of cake makes SO MUCH SENSE. Karen has a theory as to why Annabeth chose to make green and purple cupcakes. Percy is a little shocked, but he takes Sally's surprise news very well and is super happy for his mom. We discuss whether Sally is relieved that her second child is not a demi-god. It's so cute that Percy wants to stick around to see his sibling grow up. We make sure to do our favorite lines and favorite moments. Next up is Chalice of the Gods chapter 23! Ho-Ho-Kus is a real place in New Jersey with a trade school. Is Rick making a statement on high school guidance counselors and how useless they are!? Turns out everyone wants updates from Percy today. We love all the timely references in this book and a lot of Rick's other works. Percy visits the library even though he really doesn't want to. Favorite lines and moments, as always! The reason Percy wants to help Ganymede is really sweet, actually. Feedback (00:58:40) Wings of Legends left us some comments on Spotify. Kyle left us an email back in March that we're just getting to, but it was WELL worth the wait because he had an awesome idea for a discussion. Jupiter is like a mini solar system. The Sun’s largest planet has a family of almost a hundred known moons. Most of them are little more than cosmic flotsam – chips of rock and ice no more than a couple of miles wide. But a few rank among the most interesting worlds in the solar system. The four largest moons are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. They account for more than 99.9 percent of the combined mass of all of Jupiter’s moons. They probably formed along with Jupiter itself, from dust and gas that encircled the newborn planet. Io is the most volcanically active body in the solar system. It’s covered by hundreds of volcanoes, lakes of molten lava, and other features. The other three big moons appear to have oceans of liquid water buried below their icy crusts. And Europa’s ocean is considered one of the most likely homes for life in the solar system. Some of Jupiter’s little moons could have formed at the same time as the big guys, then perhaps moved into different orbits. But most of them appear to be the remains of asteroids that Jupiter captured when they wandered close. The asteroids were blasted apart in big collisions, leaving small chunks of ice and rock in orbit around the planet. Jupiter is low in the east-northeast at nightfall, and climbs high overhead during the night. It looks like a brilliant star. Through binoculars, the four big moons look like tiny stars lined up near the planet. Script by Damond Benningfield
Prophecy Radio episode #125 sees Karen and Kristen back on our usual path, including a few detours while we talk about our excitement over the Wicked movie in theaters as well as the Greek-themed updates to Disney Dreamlight Valley courtesy of the expansion pass. We do also talk about chapter 21 of Chalice of the Gods, as well as continuing to talk about our future and plans for the podcast. As of right now, new episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week, and we'll still keep our discussions PG-13. We are so excited to talk about these casting choices! (00:09:50) We are so proud of ourselves for getting our act together and kicking off our new schedule right away! Daniel Diemer will be bringing Tyson to the screen! Andra Day is absolute perfect embodiment of Athena (we're both in awe). Tamara Smart absolutely looks the part of Thalia Grace, and we can't wait to see how she chooses to play Thalia. Lance Reddick's replacement for Zeus is… We will definitely get at least one episode of season 2 in 2025! Chalice of the Gods refresher (00:26:36) Percy needs to complete 3 quests to get letters so he can join Annabeth at New Rome University. Ganymede, Zeus' cupbearer, to finds the chalice of the gods. He suspects Hebe and Iris. They find a chalice-less Hebe (and her flock of chickens) at her arcade, and after a little creative trickery by Annabeth, our trio learns where they might find Iris. Meet Blanche, daughter of Iris, who loves all things monochrome and death. She promises to introduce them to her mother if Grover poses for some photos. Iris is desperate for her child's approval, so she listens to our favorite trio, and tells them she has a hunch. She won't share that hunch, however, unless our trio does a little quest for her first. While questing, Annabeth befriends a river, Percy almost drowns, Grover gets chased by snakes. Percy gives us his (arguably) most romantic moment yet, and saves himself from mortal peril. Once they return Iris' staff to her, clean as a whistle, she lets them know the chalice is in Greenwich in the possession of someone named Gary, and hands them a vial of pure nectar to help in locating the famous drinking vessel. Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:34:26) Grover arrives to Percy's swim meet in some very specific regalia. Percy is forced to look at Blanche's dreary photos of Grover appearing dead amongst very dead-looking nature. Grover had planned to give one of these photos to Juniper for her Bloom Day present, but she didn't react well to the repeated mentioning of Blanche. Percy advises that Grover admit his stupidity in this moment, and apologize to Juniper. Percy notes that, next to the Greek gods, he's possibly the worst person to give relationship advice. Grover asked the cloud nymphs about Greenwich village, scoping out the scene before they go adventuring there, and they admit to some weird energy around Washington Square Park. While getting Juniper's Bloom Day present right is important, Grover is more concerned with how things are going to work once Percy and Annabeth run off to New Rome University. Percy reassures our favorite satyr that they need him as much as he needs them. They couldn't survive without Grover in their lives. Favorite lines and favorite moments. Feedback! Thank you so much to everyone for all the kinds words on our return. It really means the world to us. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 126, where we'll discuss the big news we missed while we were away, along with Chalice of the Gods chapters 22 & 23. On today's episode, we delve into the layers of myth and meaning surrounding same-sex love in mythology, exploring the fascinating tale of Ganymede—a myth that stands apart from other tragic tales of ancient love. Here, we uncover a story of enduring affection that doesn't end in loss, but in ascension, as Ganymede is welcomed to Olympus by Zeus and granted immortality. What does this myth offer modern queer men and the evolving dialogue around masculinity? My guest, who goes by Gregory Ganymedes, joins me to explore these questions, along with his own journey through Jungian psychology, and the creation of The Ganymede Project. Together, we unravel themes of queer archetypes, dream analysis, the healing potential of myth and the imaginal possibilities for a future that honors all of who we are.The Mythic Masculine is a reader-supported publication. Welcome to Episode 251 of Lucretius Today. This is a podcast dedicated to the poet Lucretius, who wrote "On The Nature of Things," the most complete presentation of Epicurean philosophy left to us from the ancient world. Each week we walk you through the Epicurean texts, and we discuss how Epicurean philosophy can apply to you today. If you find the Epicurean worldview attractive, we invite you to join us in the study of Epicurus at EpicureanFriends.com, where we have a thread to discuss this and all of our podcast episodes. Today we are continuing to review Cicero's "On the Nature of The Gods," which began with the Epicurean spokesman Velleius defending the Epicurean point of view. This week will continue into Section 39 as Cotta, the Academic Skeptic, continues to attack the Epicurean view of the nature of divinity. Today's Text XXXIX. ... The whole affair, Velleius, is ridiculous. You do not impose images on our eyes only, but on our minds. Such is the privilege which you have assumed of talking nonsense with impunity. But there is, you say, a transition of images flowing on in great crowds in such a way that out of many some one at least must be perceived! I should be ashamed of my incapacity to understand this if you, who assert it, could comprehend it yourselves; for how do you prove that these images are continued in uninterrupted motion? Or, if uninterrupted, still how do you prove them to be eternal? There is a constant supply, you say, of innumerable atoms. But must they, for that reason, be all eternal? To elude this, you have recourse to equilibration (for so, with your leave, I will call your Ἰσονομία), and say that as there is a sort of nature mortal, so there must also be a sort which is immortal. By the same rule, as there are men mortal, there are men immortal; and as some arise from the earth, some must arise from the water also; and as there are causes which destroy, there must likewise be causes which preserve. Be it as you say; but let those causes preserve which have existence themselves. I cannot conceive these your Gods to have any. But how does all this face of things arise from atomic corpuscles? Were there any such atoms (as there are not), they might perhaps impel one another, and be jumbled together in their motion; but they could never be able to impart form, or figure, or color, or animation, so that you by no means demonstrate the immortality of your Deity. XL. Let us now inquire into his happiness. It is certain that without virtue there can be no happiness; but virtue consists in action: now your Deity does nothing; therefore he is void of virtue, and consequently cannot be happy. What sort of life does he lead? He has a constant supply, you say, of good things, without any intermixture of bad. What are those good things? Sensual pleasures, no doubt; for you know no delight of the mind but what arises from the body, and returns to it. I do not suppose, Velleius, that you are like some of the Epicureans, who are ashamed of those expressions of Epicurus, in which he openly avows that he has no idea of any good separate from wanton and obscene pleasures, which, without a blush, he names distinctly. What food, therefore, what drink, what variety of music or flowers, what kind of pleasures of touch, what odors, will you offer to the Gods to fill them with pleasures? The poets indeed provide them with banquets of nectar and ambrosia, and a Hebe or a Ganymede to serve up the cup. But what is it, Epicurus, that you do for them? For I do not see from whence your Deity should have those things, nor how he could use them. Therefore the nature of man is better constituted for a happy life than the nature of the Gods, because men enjoy various kinds of pleasures; but you look on all those pleasures as superficial which delight the senses only by a titillation, as Epicurus calls it. Where is to be the end of this trifling? Even Philo, who followed the Academy, could not bear to hear the soft and luscious delights of the Epicureans despised; for with his admirable memory he perfectly remembered and used to repeat many sentences of Epicurus in the very words in which they were written. He likewise used to quote many, which were more gross, from Metrodorus, the sage colleague of Epicurus, who blamed his brother Timocrates because he would not allow that everything which had any reference to a happy life was to be measured by the belly; nor has he said this once only, but often. You grant what I say, I perceive; for you know it to be true. I can produce the books, if you should deny it; but I am not now reproving you for referring all things to the standard of pleasure: that is another question. What I am now showing is, that your Gods are destitute of pleasure; and therefore, according to your own manner of reasoning, they are not happy.

Repress that gay demon and avert the aversion therapy because we're discussing Ganymede (2024), a queer thriller that we quite liked! When a small town wrestling star develops a crush on an openly gay classmate, all Hell breaks loose when he begins seeing visions of a demonic ganymede. Featuring affecting lead performances from Pablo Castelblanco and Jordan Doww and over-the-top performances from David Koechner and Robin Lively (Teen Witch), Ganymede is a bit all over the place, but we think the pros outweigh the cons. Celia tries to comfort Rosalind when Orlando doesn't show up at the cottage for his first coaching. Corin arrives to invite them to spy on Silvius courting the reluctant Phoebe. Rosalind, still dressed as Ganymede, follows and confronts Phoebe when she sees how poorly she treats Silvius, but it backfires when Phoebe falls for her instead. Rosalind beats a hasty retreat with Celia. Phoebe tells Silvius she's going to write “Ganymede” a love letter for him to deliver. Back in the forest, Rosalind teases Jacques about his melancholy until Orlando finally arrives. Jacques leaves and Rosalind (Ganymede) berates Orlando for being late to his tutoring session. Ganymede (Rosalind) convinces Celia to stage a fake wedding between Ganymede and Orlando in order to make Rosalind jealous. Orlando isn't sure about this and leaves to have dinner with Duke Senior. Celia scolds Rosalind for misrepresenting women, but Rosalind can only respond that she's fallen deeply in love. Our guest this week is none other than Team USA's Olympic medal-winning gymnast @asher_hong04! Now, amidst the Olympic glory, a video of Asher discussing his love of fragrance went viral on social media. In an interview during the games, Asher revealed he uses specific fragrances for competitions, AND revealed a super-sniffer ability to detect which scent the interviewer was wearing. Clearly… he's one of us! So, we were thrilled to welcome Asher to On the Scent…Asher has also posted videos on his Instagram, where a roommate challenged him to smell randomly picked fragrances from his collection, while blindfolded. Asher completely nailed the world's most difficult vault during the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials, then went on and WON a bronze medal for Team USA during the Paris Olympics! From a Reuters news report on Asher:“Most gymnasts would prioritise packing items such as uniforms, tape and hand grips when preparing to compete on the world's biggest stage but inspirational fragrances were on top of American Asher Hong's mind heading to Paris. The 20-year-old has over 70 bottles of perfume in his collection and has brought seven with him to the Games, reflecting the recent social-media-driven rise in fragrance enthusiasm among young adults…”Asher's dedication to his sport *and* to somehow finding time for his love of fragrance is quite remarkable, and we can't wait to hear what fragrances he discovers next. Plus, who else thinks a fragrance brand needs to sponsor Asher?! During this episode, Asher talks about…@givenchybeauty Gentleman @sospirointernational Vibrato@mancera Instant Crush @yslbeauty Y eau de parfum @mancera Cedrat Boise@bvlgari Man in Black @bvlgari Le Gemme Tygar@montale Intense Café@louisvuitton Ombre Nomade (We also mention these fragrances we think Asher would love…)@diptyque Eau de Sens@marcanotinebarrois Ganymede@akrofragrances Infuse Thank you for being such a great guest, Asher!
Dennis is joined via Zoom by the filmmakers behind the new gay thriller Ganymede, Colby Holt & Sam Probst. The film is about a high school wrestling star from a strict Christian family who develops feelings for his openly gay classmate, which causes him to be haunted by a terrifying creature. The co-directors, who are also husbands, talk about where the original idea came from, what it was like to shoot the movie in Colby's hometown in rural Kentucky, how they came to cast the openly gay two-time Teen Choice Award nominee Jordan Doww as their troubled protagonist and how watching RuPaul's Drag Race helped them decompress after long days on the set. Other topics include: the movies they find terrifying, tracking down a real shock therapy machine to use as a prop, what it was like for Colby to come out in high school, Sam watching the gay film Latter Days in secret n college before coming out, how the pair first met at the gay country Charley's in Chicago at 3 AM on a Monday night and how Colby's mom worked on the fim as a hair consultant and nailed co-star Robyn Lively's Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side highlights.
Grab your beaker and tare your scale because the Nose Candy ladies are back in the lab to talk about the science of scent. This week Maddie and Chloe are joined by genius artist and aroma chemist Sean Raspet to discuss the process of creating a scent on the molecular level, and to sniff through some of Sean's unreleased fragrance molecules. That means they're talking about everything from the scent of seafaring melon, to floral formaldehyde, to eau de air conditioning. Whether you want to smell like ethical manufacturing practices, a "mystery" Starburst flavor or the scent of betrayal, this is one atomic episode you will not want to miss! A European mission to study the moons of Jupiter is getting some help. Even though it was launched on Europe’s most powerful rocket, it’s so heavy that it needs some extra “kicks” to reach the Jovian system. It’ll get two of those kicks this week – one from the Moon, the other from Earth. The mission is JUICE – Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer. It’ll study Jupiter’s largest moons – Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa. All three are made of ice and rock, with vast oceans of liquid water below their crusts. Europa’s ocean is closer to the surface than the other two. And it’s considered a possible habitat for microscopic life. JUICE will make a total of 35 close passes by the three moons. After that, it’ll settle into orbit around the largest moon, Ganymede. To reach Jupiter and its moons, the craft will make several close passes by other bodies – the Moon, Earth, and Venus. During each encounter, it’ll “steal” a bit of gravitational energy. That acts like a slingshot, accelerating the craft. This week’s encounters are the first. JUICE will fly past the Moon, then swing by Earth just a day and a half later. Along with three more encounters in the coming years, that will help JUICE reach Jupiter in the summer of 2031 – beginning a long reconnaissance of some icy moons. We’ll talk about another intriguing icy moon tomorrow. Script by Damond Benningfield
Kyle sits down with Colby Holt (Co-Director/Writer) and Sam Probst (Co-Director/Editor) of the recently released queer horror film Ganymede, available on VOD now. We talk about the real-life horror of anti-queer rhetoric, what being a married co-directing couple is like, and hosting a premiere party with drag queen legends among many other things. Ganymede: After a small-town wrestling star develops a crush on an openly gay classmate, he is stalked by a grotesque creature that invades his thoughts as he navigates his feelings and struggles to live up to his legacy-obsessed family. This week we are joined by our friend Ishanie! Ishanie, long time Percy Jackson fan and person who knew us in high school, gets to hear us get low key emotional about growing old. Percy faces Geras, the god of old age (our predictions were right!!). We come down firmly against loin cloths. Manasa wishes Geras wore a cute old man sweater. Erin reads multiple passages from the book because these chapters are deep. Percy gives old age a nice hug, and then heads up to Olympus to help out our guy Ganymede. We all are very offended by Percy's take on brunch. Thanks to Ishanie for joining us!! On July 4, JP was sent to a medical facility at a military base where he currently serves along with three other soldiers who had picked him up at a pre-arranged location. The soldiers were veterans of covert space missions and were dismissive of JP who they didn't know as he hadn't competed the same training. They questioned why he was there and why they were sent to pick him up. Once JP and the soldiers arrived at the medical facility, they were screened by a table top device that required placing one's hand on the surface that would determine their suitability for an upcoming space mission to Saturn. JP's handprint produced a green-yellow result, which showed his suitability and that he had previously performed covert space missions outside of our solar system. The three soldiers' results indicated that they were less experienced than JP in deep space missions. The more aggressive among them apologized to JP for his disrespect and said he had no idea of what JP had previously done. JP was also very puzzled by the results as he doesn't remember doing covert space missions any further than Jupiter's moon Ganymede which he traveled to in late 2021 as part of a space convoy headed by US Space Command. When JP later met the senior officer who is his handler to ask about the upcoming Saturn mission, he answered in an enigmatic way that the mission may have already been completed. This stunned JP who didn't remember completing such a mission. JP realized that he has completed far more space missions than he remembers and looks forward to regaining his memories.
