The cost of renting in County Clare continues to climb sharply, with the latest figures showing new tenants now paying almost €600 a month for a single room in a house.  According to the latest Daft.ie rental report, market rents rose by 4.4% nationally in the first quarter of 2026 — the biggest quarterly increase recorded since the series began in 2002.   In Clare, the cost of a three-bed home has risen by 8.3%, while four-bed properties are now over 20% more expensive than this time last year.  To discuss this further, Daragh Dolan was joined by Homeless support worker and Shannon Sinn Féin representative, Shane Doody and Clare SVP President, Gerardine Power. by Kanjana Jorruang from Getty Images via Canva

A continued housing supply shortfall and new rental rules are being blamed for a sharp rise in rents in Clare. The latest Daft.ie report shows a single room in a house here now costs almost €600 a month to rent. Four-bed homes saw the biggest jump, with the average surging by 21% to €2,162 in the last year. Economist at Trinity College Dublin and author of the Daft.ie report, Ronan Lyons, has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons a nationwide cost rental scheme could put a dent in the problem.

More than 8,600 homes were advertised as short-term lets nationwide in March, compared with just 2,100 listed for private rent on Daft.ie.The figures, from housing charity Threshold, highlight growing pressure in the rental market and have prompted calls for the Government to enforce new short-term letting rules later this year.But it also raises a question: while many people are frustrated by the shortage of rental homes, do we also contribute to the problem when we book short-term accommodation ourselves when travelling?Andrea is joined by listeners to discuss.

It's claimed rents in Clare will not improve until housing supply drastically increases. Daft.ie's rental property price report for the final quarter of 2025 shows this county was the most expensive place to rent in Munster outside of the major cities. Supply across the province has reached a 20-year low meanwhile with just 200 new tenancies available for rent. Daft.ie Report Author and Economist Ronan Lyons has been telling Clare FM's Daragh Dolan the supply deficits here are far from normal.

Market rents across the country rose by 4.4% last year, 80% higher than they were a decade ago, with the average monthly rent for an apartment in Dublin city now almost €2,700. That's according to the latest Rental Report by Daft.ie. A new report this morning from Daft.ie finds the average home list price nationally rose by an average of 5.5% during last year. Ronan Lyons, author of the report, explains.

Fresh calls have been made for a serious policy shift around planning and objections in 2026 in order to increase Clare's housing stock. According to the latest Daft.ie report, new property prices rose by approximately 5%, in line with the national average, however, the median house price in the county was 14% higher than at the end of 2024. Meanwhile, Munster as a whole recorded a 7.8% 'market heat' figure, which is an indication of how much more a new property sold for above its initial listing price. Economist at Trinity College Dublin and author of the Daft.ie report Ronan Lyons has been telling Clare FM's Darragh O'Grady, that the complicated nature of the planning system is leading to a sustained increase in house prices year on year.

House prices nationally rose by an average of 5.5% during 2025, with prices now 41% above their pre-covid levels and just 10% below their Celtic Tiger peak. It's claimed specfic policies targeting the rental markey need to be implimented by the Government in order to combat rising monthly rents in Clare. It comes as the latest Daft.ie quarterly report shows the price of newly leasing a three-bed home has risen to more than €1,600 a month, while the average cost of renting a room in Clare has also increased to €609 monthly. Meanwhile, Cabinet has this morning signed off on its new housing plan, which aims to deliver 300,000 homes by 2030 and will also include plans to invest €2.5 billion in the Land Development Agency. It's claimed Clare's housing market will be in "real trouble" unless more second-hand stock becomes available. Daft.ie's latest House Price Report shows the number of housing transactions and exisiting homes for sale in Munster both fell last year. In Clare, meanwhile, the average price of a two-bed terraced home soared by 31.5% which is the highest increase of any property type nationwide, while four-bed homes went up by over €35,000. Report Author and Economist Ronan Lyons has been telling Clare FM's Daragh Dolan however there are some positive indications for Clare.
