What a privilege it was talking to Junie and sharing in her deliberate quest of understanding people and culture that has led her to where she is today. Junie has always believed that if you understand the systems in which you live in and how they dictate what you'll benefit from or miss out on, then you can design and imagine endless solutions to your wildest dreams. And, wild dreams she has lived, to say the least: ranked in the top 50 employees in banking in Canada, liaised with public relations and media in India to raise awareness for mining workers' rights and micro-businesses led by women in India, taught English to speakers of other languages in México and China, and co-designed health programs in remote and rural communities in the Northern Territory (Australia). Listen in as we talk about her Ironman quests, and how now, she has broken into the tech industry (as a non-tech) by tapping into her entrepreneurial spirit to start seeing better representation in product design. Junie has a wild goal to remove biases in the design of products and technology and she shares her personal beliefs about 'fear' and 'daring to try'. This week we are in Crocodile Dundee country in the top end of Australia. We are travelling to Darwin the capital of the Northern Territory. We spent a week exploring the area including Kakadu National Park which is so big it would cover half of Switzerland. But first you will get a laugh (like I did) as Lyle describes how terrified he was when he met the 6.1 metre (that's over 18 feet) crocodile known as Dominator in the crocodile infested waters of Adelaide River and how a horse size(well almost horse size) lizard stopped us in our tracks. We tell you all about Litchfield national park which is home to some spectacular waterfalls and unique waterholes where you can swim – if you are brave enough. And tell you about the gigantic termite mounds that make the landscape look like you are on another planet. We also describe the best places to eat in Darwin, the Darwin waterfront and harbour, the famous markets, and the best places to see one of Darwin's world famous sunsets. Stick around to the end to hear about the real reason we were in Darwin, I'll bet you can't guess and learn how I was totally blown away by where I found my favourite wine of all time. Lastly we give a big shout out to some listeners who told us where they are enjoying happy hour. Hi, I'm Beverley Joy of Simply Story Poetry. I wrote this poem in 2012, after visiting the beautiful botanical gardens in Darwin in the Northern Territory Australia, while travelling in my motorhome. In this poem, I compare the tiny intricately designed flowers with those of us who have beautiful qualities to offer the world, but largely go unnoticed, due to our quiet natures. I realised that I didn't have to try to be big and powerful, that it was ok being me. Those of us who are delicate flowers share our beauty with those who stop along the path of life and notice us. Thank you for stopping by today. You can read my poems and verses at Simply Story Poetry on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and on the website. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/simply-story-poetry/message
