This week on ‘The Dark Ride' we invite you to prick your ears like a stallion at the glue factory and climb aboard some ornately decorated bleached ponies. Join your favorite cowboy and cowgirl as we spur our way into and out of our saddles, while we go round and round the ole horse tornado sipping from ornately bedazzled boots, I mean mugs, were definitely drinking out of mugs just like every other episode. Come with us today as we take a second chance at showmance on the infamously old Prince Charming Regal Carrousel! That's right, just like our drinks this 100+ year old attraction is still stirring. But the question is - will this stampede of 90 horses do the Poppins, and buck bronco their way into a cartoon race with Dick Van Dyke, or will one of these gold clad wooden beauties break it's leg and have to be put down .... for repair (we're not that dark, sheesh)? There's only one way to find out! The trailer is good and I think the movie will be too! It premieres on June 17th.Connect with us! In some cases, rides were imported from other places – a key example I'm thinking about in this case is how the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel was built in 1917 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. Before it ended up at Walt Disney World, it enjoyed runs at Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan, and then Olympic Park in Irvington, New Jersey, before being bought by Disney in 1967.Many of the early Disney attractions focused on how the Disney Imagineers would take common items and put them to extraordinary use in making a ride “come to life”. Some key examples are the use of mirrors in The Haunted Mansion and the use of lights and colored paper to give the illusion of fire in Pirates of the Caribbean. However, all of these early concepts still revolved around mechanical rides that didn't vary from one ride to another. With the advancement of computers, though, that changed how rides could be designed and how the technology really changed how attraction junkies like us were able to experience the rides. That's what we are going to talk about today – how those rides revolutionized the way we think about rides. The Twilight Zone Tower of TerrorStar ToursToy Story ManiaMickey & Minnie's Runaway RailwayRemy's Ratatouille AdventureMillennium Falcon: Smugglers Run - Hondo Ohnaka Audio-AnimatronicRise of the ResistanceAvatar: Flight of PassageThis Day in Disney History for April 25:2000: The Lion King MusicalDisney Who's Who CharacterLittle John from Robin HoodA little bit of Walt“The way to keep children out of trouble is to keep them interested in things. Oh we went there. We burst the NBA bubble with a long strange trip down the "What if?" road as we ask the questions that no one else, ever, has asked. If NBA players were Disney rides, what would they be? If you aren't an NBA fan, this podcast isn't for you, sorry, it won't make any sense. BUT for those of you that follow NBA basketball and really really love Disney, well boy oh boy, I have got a podcast for you! Buckle up, some of these are going to be a bit of a stretch. Got your own perfect correlation? Hit us up on social media or shoot us an email at to tell us your own WDWXNBA mashup for the ages. We had a good time making this, hope you enjoy listening and finding out how JJ Reddick and Duncan Robinson are the living embodiment of Prince Charming Regal Carrousel! BTW, Gordon Hayward, if you are listening, maybe don't listen from 11:20 in to 12:00 in, no big deal...
