We are spoilt for choice when it comes to anti-aging skincare. Walk into any pharmacist, and you'll see shelves lined with promises. Fewer wrinkles, youthful, glowing skin are just some of the claims that these products make. But, when you dig a little deeper, the reality of these cosmetics isn't so pretty.  WELCOME TO FATAL CONVENIENCES™  Aren't the advertisers and marketing teams of these skincare products smart? They've made us think that we're not beautiful and wonderful just as we are. I do get it though. Slowing down the signs of aging and feeling better about what you see in the mirror is something we all want. But you must remember that what goes ON your skin, goes IN your skin.  I'm going further than skin-deep in this segment to uncover some of the hidden toxic ingredients lurking in anti-aging skincare. I discuss mercury and Teflon, the two bad boys lurking within your cosmetics. Our goal is to help you plan your dream Disney World vacation, and that all starts right here. This episode will walk you through planning a trip in 7 easy steps. After that, we'll go through some of the other important information you'll need to know before you go.  Consider this a Cliff Notes version for getting started (or even for getting reacquainted) with Disney vacation planning.   The past few years have brought many changes – some of which are fairly significant. Here are the ones that are the most important for you to be aware of: FastPass+ service is out and Genie+ is in Extra Magic Hours (EMHs) have been replaced with a new program called “Early Theme Park Entry“ Extended Evening Theme Park Hours have been added – but only for onsite guests at Deluxe and Deluxe Villa resorts Reservations are required to visit the parks Disney's Magical Express has been discontinued (no more free rides between the airport and your Disney Resort) Park hopping can only be done after 2 PM Advanced Dining Reservations are made at 60 days out now (instead of 180 days) Disney Dining Plan is not currently being sold (although Disney has confirmed it will be back sometime in the future) Our best advice is to make sure you do not assume that everything is the same – because it isn't.   This episode is brought to you by BetterHelp. Unlock the Secret to a Joyful Life: The Power of Strong Relationships with Marc Schulz We run towards the things we think will make us happy, only to reach our goals and realize that these goals aren't as fulfilling as we had anticipated. This is because none of us can accurately predict what will make us happy. WELCOME TO THE DARIN OLIEN SHOW Marc Schulz said that as he got older, he realized that the good life was really in front of us. But what makes a good life? Is it simply identifying our own happiness? Marc is a professor of psychology at Bryn Mawr College and the Associate Director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development (HSAD), one of the longest longitudinal studies of human thriving ever conducted. HSAD has tracked the lives of 724 men and their families from puberty to the end of life since the 1930s. They have lately begun working with more than 1,300 of these initial participants' daughters and sons to better understand how early events affect midlife health and happiness. He is also the author of numerous publications and a co-editor of the book "The Good Life: Lessons from the World's Longest Scientific Study of Happiness.” What makes a life fulfilling and meaningful? The simple but surprising answer is: relationships. We are more likely to lead joyful, fulfilling, and generally healthier lives if our connections are stronger. In fact, according to the Harvard Study of Adult Development, the quality of our relationships with others can predict how well our bodies and minds will function as we age. In this episode, Marc discusses his research and the lessons he has learned from the study of adult development. We also talked about the relationship between happiness and relationships. So I started to wonder: What else is there to know about the importance of relationships? And how much might that knowledge solve some of our most perplexing problems? All this and more, on this week's episode of  The Darin Olien Show. When the pandemic caused Walt Disney World to shutdown and furlough cast members, they came together and created a facebook group Ear for Eachother.  We had the opportunity to speak with four members of the Facebook group who built businesses during this time. Here are their stories. Claire created a business out of ideas she wished that Disney was able to offer! She uses her cosmetology license to help her clients Disney bound in their own fairytale. Kellyann creates door decorations, delivers baskets, and in room celebrations. Prior to the shutdown, Kelly was a cast member at Ohana and coordinator for Disney University and uses her experience with Disney to infuse magic into all of her creations.  Justin was a Jedi with the Jedi Training Academy prior to the shutdowns. Post Trip: 43:34  Erin and her 12 year old daughter Abby had a wonderful 2-week stay tent camping at Fort Wilderness! Abby is medically complex and improves when she is able to go to Disney, so they make it happen when they can. Their trip included one night at the Halloween party, Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue, and two dessert parties at Magic Kingdom. Erin shares her experiences camping, seeing lots of fireworks, utilizing DAS, and following interpreters from park to park. They drove to Disney and had access to their vehicle during their long trip. At the end of their trip, they spent time at Give Kids the World because Abby was a wish kid in 2015. There is much more information in the audio, we hope you enjoy Erin's fantastic trip report! The D23 Expo just wrapped up, and we were so lucky to be there. During the Expo, lots of stuff gets announced at a bunch of panels that span across 3 days. There are panels for movie projects and TV shows, panels all about Marvel and Star Wars, and then there's our favorite: the Disney Parks & Experiences Panel. We love this panel because that's where we learn all about the proposed projects that are planned for all the Disney Parks around the world, plus all the new stuff they have in the pipeline for other experiences like Disney Cruise Line. Now, to be fair, not everything that gets proposed may actually make it. But, in general, aside from major worldwide pandemics, most things we see eventually make their way into the parks. Ready to hear what we have to look forward to? Let's go!
