The second Poemcast, a short period of poetic reverie, for as William Blake says "There is a Moment in each Day that Satan cannot find Nor can his Watch Fiends find it, but the Industrious find This Moment & it multiply. & when it once is found It renovates every Moment of the Day if rightly placed." (Milton, Plate 35:42-3) In this difficult and frighteningly uncertain time we have not only to face our outer fears but our inner ones too. This inner journey introduces us to parts of ourselves that we are unfamiliar with and need to be negotiated with, to be dialogued with, to have secret talks with. Then we will be better fitted to face this changing world as it unfolds with resilience and vulnerability. Go well in these more isolated and solitary times. Adrian (the anxious poet). Magic Kingdom was the most visited theme park in the world in 2018 and has recently been ranked as the 2nd most popular place in the world to propose. While I would never discount the magic of a proposal in some of the most popular Magic Kingdom locations like in the middle of Main Street USA overlooking the Cinderella's Castle, those popular spots are not for everyone. Main Entrance Cast: Talking Theme Parks, Musing over Museums, and So Much More!
Welcome, Adventurers, to Episode 4 of the Main Entrance Cast. We apologize for going dark for a while, but we took the time to retool and rework some of the things that weren't working quite right. We're back and better than ever! We do have a couple of updates: The Main Entrance Cast will now be releasing once every three weeks. In-between episodes, we'll be bringing you the daily Main Entrance Cast Thought of the Day on Amazon Alexa, Facebook, and Instagram. Keep an eye (or ear) open for the Thought of the Day to change its name and eventually find a new home on Apple Podcasts and all major Podcast providers. We're also working to bring you new Main Entrance Cast Side Doors, which will be smaller segments released between episodes that follow the adventures of you, our listeners. Thanks for your patience, now on with the show! News (4:00) In this segment, Nick and Katie talk about the newly announced Universal's Epic Universe, including thoughts about the rumored themes, offerings, and design approach to be undertaken in this new park. It's time to excited about Universal's 4th (or is it their 3rd) theme park! Feature Presentation (11:02) Our Feature Presentation offers up the age-old question, "When does something move from being Nostalgic to being Outdated". In this segment, Nick and Katie talk about several possible answers to this question. Among the examples they discuss are Disney's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Peter Pan's Flight, Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid, Space Mountain, and the Carousel of Progress, as well as Universal's ET Adventure. We also venture into the world of museums, talking about the older styles of bringing information to Guests, such as dioramas. Are these forms of display still relevant in the age of information? Do attractions become outdated because they are seen as nostalgic, or is it a case of operators being unwilling to open the wallet to keep things relevant. Can comparative or alternative attractions within proximity of an experience have an influence on whether or not some thing is seen as nostalgic versus outdated? Tune in to hear our perspectives, and be sure to let us know yours at connect@mainentrancecast.com. Trivia & Wrap Up (1:19:17): Last Episode's Trivia Question: In this episode, we talked about hidden details in theme parks. Disney, in particular, uses a very special type of hidden detail to honor individuals who made significant contributions to their theme parks. In what form do these honorariums take? Last Episode's Trivia Answer: The Main Street Windows This Episode's Trivia Question: In this episode, we talked about the possibility of the Carousel of Progress moving to the Smithsonian or other museum. Turns out, there is already a piece of Disneyland prominently featured in the National Museum of American History. What is that artifact? If you think you know the answer, drop us a line at connect@mainentrancecast.com. Thanks for listening!

Each Podcast in the series “DEEPER INTO THE SEA” takes a deeper look into one part of the making of Áine Tyrrell's second full length album "Return To The Sea". This Episode concentrates on the inspiring Crowdfund. * Something truly unique special and entirely amazing happened during the crowdfund campaign for RETURN TO THE SEA. Yes a CD was crowdfunded but there was also hours and hours of amazing human connections through music live on the interwebs. It proved that one small voice can cut through the big noise, that one small voice can reach out person to person and reach thousands and actually make a difference. This crowdfund proved that together there is hope for us all to dream our dreams and put them out there. This one is back on the couch with Jayney Galbraith, Áine goes deeper into the journey to music. From her father's influence as a folk musician to her mother's influence as lover of music. Jayney asks deeper questions about traditional Irish music and how having that as a start to her musical journey has formed her path now.
And we’re back! Hope you all enjoyed the break while we set things up at our new home. Last time, Dave and I talked about a few of our favorite tales and how they pull the reader in right from the beginning. So now we’ll share a few of our own, mostly from actual play or in-real-time storytelling games: the kind where the players can decide their own fate, the characters take on a strange life, and failures, mistakes, and the unexpected, shared delight can lead to a surprising change. What will you do when the ‘golden opportunity’ that you’ve been waiting for finds you? Joining today: frequent guest and Odder Worlds host, David Herman of TheBrothersHerman. Though it may seem odd, the starting point of any tale we devise is often the hardest to find. Sometimes it helps to see what other bodies of work have done well (or not) and why. http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Let's head to Magic Kingdom and visit Ariel on Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid. It’s time to head to Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom and visit with Ariel on Under The Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid. The Magic Kingdom guide map describes the ride by saying, "Descend below the waves for a splashy musical adventure." There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as being a Slow Ride. FastPass+ is available for this attraction Before we begin flipping our fins, here are five fast facts about Under the Seas - Journey of the Little Mermaid at Magic Kingdom. 1. Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid officially opened at Magic Kingdom on December 6, 2012. It was built on the site of the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction. Before that classic ride was removed, imagineers saved several jars of water from the 20,000 Leagues lagoon. In a special ceremony with The Little Mermaid attraction opened, the water they’d save was aded back into the new water features as a nod to the original ride at that location. 2. With a ride length of 5 1/2 minutes, Under the Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid is one of the longer rides in Fantasyland. It also boasts an interactive queue area where guests can help crabs sort out Ariel’s thingamabobs while they wait to ride the attraction. 3. Original Little Mermaid stars Jodi Benson and Pat Carrol lend their voices to Ariel and Ursula on the attraction while Phillip Lawrence provides the voice of Sebastion and Chris Edgerly voices Scuttle. 4. The attraction reportedly boasts over 180 characters! Most of them, around 120 characters, are featured in the Under the Sea sequence of the ride. 5. Finally, if you’re a fan of finding hidden Mickeys in the Disney parks, this attraction boasts one of the most unique Hidden Mickeys ever. Imagineers constructed the rocks outside the queue for the attraction in such a way that the sun creates a Hidden Mickey only once a year at noon on November 18th, Mickey Mouse’s Birthday! Let’s hop aboard our clamshell to a pay a visit to Ariel and friends. Along for the ride is John B. deHaas and he and I will discuss our thoughts on this attraction after the ride audio. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience, Magic Kingdom’s Under the Sea - The Journey of the Little Mermaid. From opening-day attraction Peter Pan’s Flight to the addition of Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid in 2012, dark rides have always had a significant presence in the Disney parks. Come and join us for another installment of the WDW-Memories podcast, where I try to make it possible for you relive your Walt Disney World Memories when you can't actually be there. One more week and I’m off to Florida. Traci and I have decided to take advantage of two small children and no school commitments yet and are heading to Florida for some fun in the sun. That means more days in the parks that we’ll get to relive together. Even more exciting, we’re venturing outside the Magic Kingdom on this trip. We’re planning to spend two days this time, day one (March 4) will be at the Magic Kingdom and day two (March 6) will be at Epcot. Our day at the Magic Kingdom is supposed to be a 5 according to Touring Plans, but we’ll do what we can to reduce our waits by using the Lines app by Touring Plans, and we should actually get some good use out of it this time. Our day at Epcot however should be even easier as Touring Plans has it as a 3 on their crowd calendar, meaning we shouldn’t have to wait too much. The main reason for Epcot this time though is Flower and Garden festival which we haven’t been to since 2005, so Traci and Susie are super excited about this one. We might even be able to get Grandma and Grandpa to join us for this one. So as you can see plans are coming together fast and furious. In the mean time, we’ll go continue our day in the Magic Kingdom. This time we’ll go see Ariel in all of her forms at the Magic Kingdom. Makings of The Sea, is an inquiry into the makings of the Mediterranean imagination in the 20th century. It is prompted by a strong interest that developed from a case of 'personal accident' (being Mediterranean by birth and upbringing) to an academic interest in how the Mediterranean comes to signify a narrative horizon of cultural and political particularities that have often been glossed over by generalised paradigmatic terms such as Oriental and Occidental, Modern and Post-modern. This volume is now published by Gorgias in hardback and paperback.
