News: A galaxy far, far away came to Disneyland 35 years ago recently. This was the first time that fans of the Star Wars universe could actually be apart of the universe, years before Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. The opening of the landmark attraction was celebrated by the park staying open for 60 hours. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/01/star-tours-at-disneyland-park-celebrates-35-years-of-galactic-adventures/ Another great sign of progress to get the trams back operating for guests is underway. There are construction walls up around the loading area in Downtown Disney, with paving taking place behind the walls. According to our friend David over at FreshBaked reported that 7 trams are in operation and being tested, up from just 4 recently. – https://www.micechat.com/311792-disneyland-update-lightning-lane-shenanigans-and-staffing-problems/ and https://wdwnt.com/2022/01/photos-downtown-disney-parking-tram-station-construction/ Lunar New Year is coming up quick on February 1st. To celebrate, the mural in Downtown Disney on the corner of the former ESPN building has been updated to reflect the occasion. Being the year of the tiger, the mural includes Tigger, along with Mushu, Mulan, Chip, Dale, and Goofy. The artwork was created by Disney Live Entertainment art director Elizabeth Lisa Kang. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/01/photos-new-lunar-new-year-mural-featuring-tigger-in-downtown-disney-district/ A slighly healthier snack has come to Disney California Adventure. Chocolate covered bananas have debuted at Carabelle's Ice Cream Shop. Not only will they be covered in chocolate, but also with a variety of toppings. Rainbow sprinkles, Mickey confetti, crushed peanuts, and crushed waffle cone. This follows the return of the bananas to Walt Disney World a couple of months ago. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/01/09/weve-been-waiting-for-this-treat-to-arrive-in-disneyland/ Some popular Disney treats have seen a price increase recently at Walt Disney World. This could mean that the price changes are coming to Disneyland in the future. Some notable prices are $5 for a 20oz bottle of soda, Mickey Premium Bars up to $6.25, and the Dole Whip at $6.99. It is not certain that prices will increase, but something to keep an eye on. Some of the items at the restaurants have also increased by a couple of dollars each. – https://www.wdwmagic.com/attractions/epcot/news/10jan2022-disney-hikes-the-price-of-mickey-bars-and-dole-whips-along-with-hundreds-of-other-food-and-beverage-items-at-walt-disney-world.htm The Disneyland Monorail will be going down for refurbishment, possibly in relation to the changes coming to the Downtown Disney District in February. Currently, the monorail is scheduled to close February 14th, with no exact end on the calendar yet. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2022/01/06/disneylands-monorail-to-close-temporarily-this-month/ There are just a few more days to visit a couple locations in Downtown Disney. Earl of Sandwich is currently scheduled to close on January 22nd, Sugarboo & Co will close on January 16th. The Starbucks located in the same building as Earl of Sandwich has already closed. This is in preperation for the makeover of this section of the shopping district, which should be starting soon. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/13096/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_January_10___16_2022#news0 and https://www.micechat.com/311809-disneyland-news-monorail-downtown-disney-shops-prepare-to-close-in-advance-renovation/ With the recent surge in COVID cases, due to the omicron variant, staffing at the resort has been challenging. The resort has been cross training as many cast members as possible and moving cast members around as much as possible to limit the impact of the shortages. The most notable closure is Napa Rose. Reservations were cancelled for guests who had booked dining at the location, due to staffing issues. – https://www.micechat.com/311792-disneyland-update-lightning-lane-shenanigans-and-staffing-problems/ Disney Vacation Club members should be aware of some new changes to the program. Interval International exchanges are now officially available. Exchanges with this program include thousands of resorts all over the world, including “high-quality properties” such as Marriott, Sheraton, Hyatt, and Westin. Disney Stays include not only Disney Vacation Club Resorts, but also traditional Disney Resort hotel exchange options. Disney Experiences include exchange options like Disney Cruise Line voyages, Adventures by Disney guided trips, National Geographic Expeditions, and the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. – https://wdwnt.com/2022/01/disney-vacation-club-adds-new-exchange-options-for-disney-experiences-and-non-disney-resorts-through-interval-international/ The next century of the Walt Disney Company is just around the corner, and CEO Bob Chapek has released some goals for the next century. Chapek released the “three pillars of success” in a memo to Cast Members. The three pillars are storytelling excellence, innovation, and relentless focus on the audience. On the surface, these pillars are exactly what the public expects from the company currently, and are nothing new. Time will tell what these pillars mean for the company going forward and what will change based on these. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2022/01/ceo-bob-chapek-establishes-his-three-pillars-of-success-for-the-next-century-of-the-walt-disney-company/ Discussion Topic: Star Tours Deep Dive Disney Parks Blog – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/01/star-tours-at-disneyland-park-celebrates-35-years-of-galactic-adventures/ Wikipedia – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Tours WDWNT – https://wdwnt.com/2022/01/looking-back-on-the-history-and-impact-of-the-original-star-tours-35-years-later/ Behind the Attraction – Episode 3

Shannon and Pete discuss the end of Remy's virtual queue, physical DVC cards discontinued, queue introduced to manage DVC site traffic, Riviera and Aulani price increases, Disneyland's Magic Key lawsuit, and more entertainment to return to WDW. N065 Season 7 of the My DVC Points Podcast was brought to you by: DVC Resale Market - Industry Leader in DVC Resales DVC Rental Store - DVC Point Rental and Swap Partner Monera Financial - Exclusively Financing DVC Contracts Patreon supporters in the My DVC Points VIP Producer Club. Remy's Ratatouille Adventure to end Virtual Queue Disney announced that on January 10th, they will suspend use of the virtual queue at Remy's Ratatouille Adventure. This means there will be only two options for riding, standby queue, or the individual paid lightning lane. It is expected that standby waits will be significant. Source: Disney Parks Blog DVC Blue Cards discontinued - now use “Magic Mobile” for your DVC card DVC had previously announced that the physical “Blue Card” was going to be suspended on January 1, 2022. Now we know the replacement is through the My Disney Experience App, and using Magic Mobile. MagicMobile was introduced in 2021 as a new feature allowing guests to use most smartphones and watches to replicate features of the MagicBand. It has now been expanded to show digital membership verification. MagicMobile is configured using the My Disney Experience app on supported smartphones. Tap on the "hamburger" button on the bottom right (three horizontal lines) and select "Disney MagicMobile." Tap "Set Up Your Pass" and use the "Change Pass Style" button to select one of the available card designs. (You do NOT need to select the DVC design for it to register you as a DVC member.) After selecting a design, tap on the "Add to Wallet" button to create the digital pass within the smartphone's Apple or Android wallet. This electronic card will show any affiliation including Annual Passes and DVC. Source: My DIsney Experience App DVC Webpage Using Virtual Queue For Login The DVC members-only website has recently added a queuing system to control the volume of traffic. When the virtual queue is in place, visitors will not be able to immediately log in. Instead, they will be presented with the following message: Due to high demand on the Member website, you are currently waiting to visit disneyvacationclub.com. If your need is not urgent, we recommend that you try again at a later time. If you wish to remain in the queue, please do not refresh this page or close your browser and you'll be redirected shortly. Thank you for your patience. This queuing process could present issues for members looking to make reservations early in the morning when the 11 or 7 month booking windows come into play. Reservations open daily at 8:00am eastern, with some resorts and room types filling within minutes, in accordance with high member demand. Several recent late-morning login attempts saw our access delayed by approximately 60 seconds. The change comes as 11-month reservations are being accepted for popular dates in the fall of 2022, with Thanksgiving and Christmas periods rapidly approaching. Source: DVC News Riviera, Aulani Set For Price Increase In Early 2022 On February 3, 2022, the price for Disney's Riviera Resort and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas will rise to $207 each. This represents an increase of $6 per point from the current $201 each. These price increases come as Disney Vacation Club prepares to relaunch sales of the Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. 200 additional Resort Studio rooms are scheduled to be added in the summer of 2022. Points charts were recently revealed for both 2022 and 2023. Sales are expected to begin sometime in the first quarter of 2022. No details have been released regarding pricing or promotions for additional Grand Floridian points. Source: DVC News Lawsuit filed by Disneyland's Magic Key Holders; Disney responds The lawsuit filed on behalf of other Dream Key holders alleges that limiting the number of park pass reservations available for Dream Keys — which were advertised as having “no blockout dates” — when passes for regular tickets are still available is a violation of the program's contract as well as false advertising. More than 3,600 Dream Keys were sold. In total, the lawsuit includes six causes of action, including violations of the consumers' legal remedies act, violations of the false advertising law, violations of the unfair competition law, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, and concealment/non-disclosure. Disney has filed a notice of removal, which takes the case from state court to a United States District Court. The Sunshine Flyer is Ready to Replace Disney's Magical ExpressEver since Disney announced it would be ending its popular Magical Express service in January 2022, Disney travelers have been wondering: So what now? This week, Transportation Management Services (TMS) announced The Sunshine Flyer as a new service that would transport guests from MCO to Walt Disney World resort hotels. The Sunshine Flyer offers a themed experience that is based on old-fashioned railway passenger cars and vintage stream train engines. A Design and Themed Experience that Walt Disney Would LoveThe service aims to take the stress of airport transportation for Disney guests in Orlando and help to kickstart the magic of a family vacation from the moment they board the bus at the airport. Some key facts about The Sunshine Flyer: The exteriors of the buses are designed to look like old-fashioned locomotives or passenger cars (and there are several different designs) Staff will be dressed as 1920s rail conductors and engineers The buses will have entertainment throughout the trip Ticket pre-sales are now available and service begins on February 1, 2022 There is also a charitable component to the launch of The Sunshine Flyer in honor of Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary: For the first 50 days of service, 50% of Sunshine Flyer ticket sales will be donated to Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida. Make-A-Wish children and their families will receive complimentary service from the Sunshine Flyer for their Disney wishes indefinitely The Sunshine Flyer's buses are late model, premium motorcoaches. From the classic railway-inspired bus designs to staff dressed as 1920s rail conductors and engineers, the motorcoaches effectively serve as time-machines, offering a glimpse into 1920s rail travel.According to Frank Sherman, CEO of TMS: “Everyone knows the magic of Disney once they're inside the park gates. But through The Sunshine Flyer, we're able to give guests the chance to start their vacation from the minute they step off the plane and turn what used to be a procedural drive into the beginning of an adventure to remember.” With 25 years of experience as a large events transportation company working with world-class events such as the FIFA World Cup, NBA Finals and various PGA TOUR Tournaments, TMS is primed to offer a streamlined and well-executed service through The Sunshine Flyer. What's inside The Sunshine Flyer buses? There will be entertainment on the buses Complete with a bathroom You can attach your child car seat to the three-point harness on seats For wheelchairs request an ADA bus when booking USB chargers and  three-point seatbelts for the comfort and safety of all guests  And yes, the buses will serve all Disney resort hotels How to Make a Reservation for The Sunshine FlyerYou will book tickets online and receive a QR code that you will scan once you arrive at Orlando International Airport. Presumably this will be around the luggage carousel area. The goal is to ensure smooth timing and departures to the Resorts. No luggage handling option at launch, but they hope to add it at some future time. Located in the Main Terminal Building of Orlando International Airport (MCO) in Terminal B, Level 1, in the Ground Transportation area What You Want to KnowWill buses depart WDW four hours before flight? Unclear. "Your bus is scheduled based on your specific flights. We monitor both inbound and outbound flights to make sure your trip is scheduled properly. We will email/text you a more exact departure window the day before your scheduled trips." How long will it take to get to your hotel? According to Sunshine Flyer: "We are using a dynamic routing software that customizes each day's transfers based on specific riders. We can set the parameters to how long the ride is or how many stops the bus makes. 65 minutes is the longest anyone will be on a bus once it leaves to the final destination."“By combining our storied expertise in mass transportation management with a creative, themed experience, we have the unique opportunity to offer an experience that's both stress-free and engaging,” added Sherman. “Disney guests deserve a trip to remember, right from the start. Whether they're young or old, travelling in a group or solo, we hope The Sunshine Flyer sparks the imagination and excitement of all of our guests from the moment they step on the bus.”In celebration of Disney's 50th anniversary, the Sunshine Flyer will donate 50% of all revenue from the first 50,000 passengers during the first 50 days of business to Make-A-Wish Central & Northern Florida. As a part of the Sunshine Flyer's commitment to giving back, all Make-A-Wish children and their families will receive complimentary service from the Sunshine Flyer for their Disney wishes indefinitely.Tickets for The Sunshine Flyer must be booked at least four days ahead of arrival. Tickets are $17.00 per adult, $12.50 per child each way. For the first time in DVC history, most fall travel dates require more points than summer travel dates. The other travel periods remain fairly static. The 2023 changes only affect Disney Vacation Club Resorts at Walt Disney World Resort. They do not impact Disney's Vero Beach Resort, Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas, Ko Olina, Hawaiʻi. These point charts remain unchanged. The 2022 and 2023 Grand Floridian charts now show a new point category for “Resort Studio” rooms, with 3 views: standard, lake, and theme park. The "Resort Studio" rooms are the upcoming DVC expansion rooms in the Big Pine Key building. The Standard and Lake categories remain the same as the current Grand Floridian DVC studios, but the Theme Park view sets a new record for most expensive DVC studio. News: Olaf has worked his magic, because something is coming to Disneyland that was never expected to: MagicBands! Not just any MagicBands, the new MagicBand +. The new MagicBand+ will offer “glow with the show” type color changing lights, haptic vibrations, and gesture recognition. The new version will allow guests to interact with things in the park, making it a more immersive experience. The previous features of the MagicBands like theme park tickets, room keys, and purchases will also still be available. MagicBand+ is expected to debut in Disneyland in 2022, after Walt Disney World. – https://d23.com/just-announced-disney-parks-shares-new-details-on-guardians-of-the-galaxy-cosmic-rewind-the-30th-anniversary-of-disneyland-paris-and-more/ and https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/09/just-announced-magicband-will-debut-in-2022-at-walt-disney-world-resort-as-part-of-50th-anniversary-celebration/ The cancelling of the new hotel on the west side of Downtown Disney a few years ago left everyone wondering what was going to happen to the space that is now empty, like the old AMC theater location. At the Destination D event this weekend, we got a glimpse into what is planned. The old AMC theater building will be demolished, and a new green space with room for guests to lounge and relax will be in it's place. The area will also have a stage for performances. This means that the current Starbucks, Earl of Sandwich, and Sugarboo & Co. will again be forced to close for a second time. The concept art does show a building to the east of the area that may offer a place for these establishments in the future, but no announcements have been made. – https://d23.com/just-announced-disney-parks-shares-new-details-on-guardians-of-the-galaxy-cosmic-rewind-the-30th-anniversary-of-disneyland-paris-and-more/ It has been a while since we have heard anything about the new Disney Vacation Club tower coming to the Disneyland Hotel in the future. Work has been progressing on the site recently, and Disney showed off some more concept art from the project, including what the rooms will look like. The new room design will take inspiration from the “sketching style of Walt Disney himself.” The new tower will feature 350 guest rooms and should open in 2023. – https://d23.com/just-announced-disney-parks-shares-new-details-on-guardians-of-the-galaxy-cosmic-rewind-the-30th-anniversary-of-disneyland-paris-and-more/ and https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/11/20/photos-take-a-look-inside-the-new-dvc-tower-coming-to-disneyland-hotel/ The new dinign area for Harbor Galley opened last week, sooner than expected. Pelican's Landing is the name and theme of this new seating area along the Rivers of America between Harbor Galley across from the Haunted Mansion, and the rafts to Tom Sawyer Island. The area has a lot of nautical details and adds a lot of seating in this area of the park. Some informational signs are also on display, giving some information about the Mark Twain, Sailing Ship Columbia, and some of the local plants and nautical equipment. – https://www.micechat.com/308538-dateline-disneyland-redevelopments-major-changes-possible-strike/ The day has finally come! Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is testing standby only, with no boarding group required. This is testing our theory that the attraction is in so much demand because of the queue system. We will see this week what the wait times are with just standby. The removal of the virtual queue is also a first step in heading towards Genie+ and Lightning Lane coming to Disneyland in the future. – https://www.micechat.com/308538-dateline-disneyland-redevelopments-major-changes-possible-strike/ With all of the holiday fun going on inside the parks, Downtown Disney has joined in on the fun as well. The Disney Ultimate Toy Drive, which supports Toys for Tots is available, in addition to lots of treats, drinks, food, and merchandise offerings. Of course there is also entertainment! Holiday Harmony, The Moonrays, and The Sugarplums a capella carolers will perform in the evenings Fridays through Sundays November 26th through December 26th. Main stage bands will also perform near the Downtown Disney District main stage. Of course the Star Wars: Tales fro the Galaxy's Edge will also entertain guests. – https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2021/11/enjoy-the-splendor-of-the-season-at-downtown-disney-district-at-the-disneyland-resort/ An interesting take on gift cards is coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World soon. The Holiday Pin Series features a gift card, along with a character pin as an added bonus. The gift cards with pins must be activated at $100, with the limited edition pin included at no additional cost. Pete and Vicky discuss cuts at Hilton Head Island resort where B'Lou Crabbe and Shadow were terminated and discuss taxes, transportation, and other factors impacting our DVC membership dues. News Stories B'Lou Crabbe and Shadow “released” from Hilton Head Island resort DVC recently announced that popular character B'Lou Crabbe and his dog Shadow were released from their contract at Hilton Head Island. These two had been entertaining guests at the resort for 21 years and were summarily dismissed by Disney.  If you wish to show your support, we have linked the Facebook fan page where people post their experiences and contact information to get in touch with Disney.   Source: B'Lou Crabbe and Shadow's Facebook Page DVC Publishes Our 2022 Dues On November 9th, DVC released the regular dues for the various resorts. On their DVC Member account, every owner will have a link to the details for their resorts, but we thought we would share some info. For non-WDW resorts, Aulani had a 3.7% increase to $8.67 for the unsubsidized dues, which is pretty standard. VGC was higher than most at 6.9%, as increases occurred across the board. Hilton Head Island only saw a 0.9% increase, while VB saw a 6.2% increase to $11.94, the highest of any resort by almost $2.  On average - the dues for WDW resorts only rose by 2.3%. We believe there are two main reasons for this: the lowered tax assessments and the decreased transportation fees for many resorts, likely due to the removal of Magical Express.  Of note: Old Key West saw the most significant change at 5.3% $8.81 per point, mainly because the reserve funds have dwindled and needed to be increased. OKW is now the most expensive of the DVC resorts in Walt Disney World and the third most expensive dues overall. The Polynesian also saw a 4.6% increase to $7.39 per point and 33 cents increase, surging it out of the bottom three. We noticed an INCREASE in transportation costs versus other resorts and administration and front desk costs rising by 25% for unknown reasons. The happiest members will be at Copper Creek and Riviera - where dues remained essentially flat, as well as Boulder Ridge with a mere 0.5% increase. Before they set sail they discuss some of their favorite Thanksgiving traditions and announce a very special magical partnership with Give Kids the World this holiday season. Derek & Marissa welcome DVC Resale Market's very own, Linda Smit, who shares about her time working for Disney Vacation Club for over 25 years starting with opening Disney's Vero Beach Resort all the way through joining the DVC cruise team. The team shares all the 'inside scoop' on what was it really like to work for Disney Vacation Club selling the magic aboard all 4 ships in the DCL fleet, including where did they sleep, where did they eat, did they get to have any 'fun' outside of work (does singing karaoke for Michael Buble sound fun?) and what their overall favorite destinations, ships and memories were from their hundreds of cruises around the world. Linda takes part in a very special game of "This or That" (DCL edition) followed by a special Storytime with Sue talking about how she sailed the high seas with the one and only Bob Iger (remember him ;).
