The Nostalgia Test Podcast

Dan, Manny, & Billy report on Gen Z's recent obsession with Hacky Sacks, their journeys to find them in the wild, and they put them to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!   “I don't ever remember buying a sack, but I always knew I had a sack. And then you would just, like, play sack, and then the sack would go into someone's pocket, and then you would have that sack. It was like, Dan, you compared it to, like, a lighter. Yeah. Like, did you ever buy that lighter?” |-Manny Coelho   A few weeks ago, Manny called up Dan to tell him that Hacky Sacks were back. He was seeing kids playing with them in the neighborhood, his nephew asked him if he knew what they were, and then there was a random hacky sack in his sister's basement. All signs were pointing to the resurgence of this stoner activity (shoutout Bajas) by Gen Z so Manny, Billy, & Dan went looking for them in stores (check out the journey on Instagram) and two out of three of the hosts found them! This episode is like a late-night hack session, there's no logic, it's random, there's a lost sense of time, and in the end, it never was about hacky sack at all. It's just about hanging out with your friends. The guys talk about Spencer's Gifts, how Gen Z is messing up hacky sack, the game of Combat, playing catch, Pods, Magic the Gathering, the drinking game Asshole, and so much more. Oh! And just like any good shroom trip, the guys somehow verbally wander full circle back to hacky sacks and finally figure out why hacky sacks are back. Not to spoil anything, but it's all Ryan Gosling's fault. So, put on your baggiest jeans or corduroy pants, put on a beanie no matter the temperature, grab at least 3 friends, and get hackin, because this episode is classic Nostalgia Test fun.   *** If you love what we're doing and want to support the podcast so we can keep this show going with better equipment and maybe meet up with each other to do some in-person recording, donate to The Nostalgia Test: buymeacoffee.com/nostalgiatest   Lastly, we're looking to be booked for podcast appearances, hosting gigs and parties, maybe you have a block party coming up, a BBQ that you want to be Nostalgia themed and you're looking to make it seriously memorable, a reunion, etc., contact us to book the podcast. Dan & Manny welcome back longtime friend & Nostalgia Test Podcast all-star Steve Herrera to put The Delta Force (1986) & Sidekicks (1992) to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!   “I feel like we were fed a pack of fucking lies as kids.” -Manny Coelho   In honor of Chuck Norris' life, the boys decided to do a double feature of his movies and, oh boy, not so sure if this was a good idea. The Delta Force & Sidekicks are examples of two very different parts of Chuck Norris' career, the mass explosions fighting stereotyped bad guys one-liners guns guns guns film and the “comedy” making fun of marginalized groups stereotyped characters weird sexual undertones one liners what is the plot movies. Sure, Dan & Manny could have done a really good movie of Chuck Norris' like Lone Wolf McQuade, but is that even good? Dan, Manny, & Steve try to figure out what these two movies are actually about, they wrestle with the fact that our collective nostalgia for the 80s and 90s is possibly clouding the social judgement of what's actually good from our childhoods, and Dan lays down the law about the Nostalgia content creator community. They also take down gym teachers, tell a funny story of actual quicksand at their high school in Mineola, and try to deal with the high amount of racism that these two movies seem to be able to pack in for some reason. Also, what they hell is The Delta Force even about? Is Sidekicks a mass hallucination, Joe Piscopo (that's all that needs to be said), and why is the dad character in Sidekicks one of the most useless characters in cinema history. The guys give major props to the late great Jonathan Brandis for acting his ass off and they name the true sidekick of Sidekicks. So, grab a plate of scrambled eggs a la The Delta Force, prepare for some intense hallucinations, breathe deeply, and set some bricks on fire because this might be the episode that destroys the guys' will Email us (thenostalgiatest@gmail.com) your thoughts, opinions, & episode idea for The Wheel of Nostalgia! Dan, Manny, & Billy welcome back Nostalgia Test Podcast all-star Meghan Nolan to put the 1996 Pauly Shore Stephen Baldwin “comedy” Bio-Dome to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!   “Dude, could you think of a worse person to get high with than Pauly Shore? Like, there is literally no one that I would rather less get high with than Pauly Shore. 'Cause I would be like, "Dude, shut the fuck up. Shut the fuck up." Could you imagine that, dude?” -Billy D'Elia   Dear Nostalgia Testers, this is the episode that almost broke the podcast. The guys decided to put their fate in The Wheel of Pauly Shore and was given the task of putting Bio-Dome to the test, and boy was it a huge... well. This movie defines the major issues with the 90s and why Manny talks about 80s cheese vs 90s trash. This movie seems like it was written by AI but was instead written by three people. That's right?! It took three people to write these lines that Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin literally fart out for 90 minutes. This movie sets the bar lower than low for men and is an insult to any and all men. The so-called jokes use sexual assault as a punchline, there's a Nazi salute that happens as all these morons go into the bio-dome, homophobia, and more badly developed body humor and horror than a David Cronenberg film. Dan, Manny, Billy, and Meghan go through some deep self-reflection starting with shame, shame that they all saw this movie, some more than 5 times, denial that they thought it was ever good, anger that this movie was even made, and acceptance that this is why they do this podcast. Dan creates a Bio-Dome “Would You Rather” game, and let's just say someone would rather wear a diaper for a week than watch Bio-Dome. So, take something really strong to calm yourself down, gather all your Pauly Shore movies and adoration, light a huge dumpster fire, and join The Nostalgia Test Podcast as we attempt to erase this part of the 90s from existence. Dan & Billy welcome back longtime friend & Nostalgia Test Podcast Allstar Jeremy Madson for the final episode of the Metallica Eras journey, The Legacy Era: Death Magnetic, Hardwired...to Self-Destruct, & 72 Seasons and put them to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!   “That's an interesting comparison, Metallica to The Beatles [...] The Beatles, depending on how you count them, were only around for, like, six or eight years, right? And they were hyper prolific. They put out all their shit, and that was basically Metallica from however you wanna measure it, from, from Kill 'Em All up to Black or even through Justice, right? They cranked out just, like, absolute pinnacle, God-level material. But instead of, you know, tearing each other down and going off and doing their own thing, they just decided to stick around.”  -Jeremy Madson   Dan, Billy, & Jeremy talk about the most recent albums of Metallica's long and confusing career, Death Magnetic (2008), Hardwired... to Self-Destruct (2016), and 72 Seasons (2023). They try to figure out why Metallica made these albums, if they should've stopped after Death Magnetic, Metallica's consistent cover art fails since Load, and why does Metallica insist on recording songs longer than 3.5 minutes at this point. Is Death Magnetics' mixing really a problem, especially after Saint Anger or is it just some bulls**t to complain about? Their conversation inevitably returns to the influence of Lars on the band's trajectory after the death of Cliff Burton and how the band might have imploded anyway if Cliff didn't die. At the end of the episode, and this is an epic one so hang on and hangout, the guys give their individual rankings of all the studio albums from worst to best (minus LuLu, Garage Inc, & the live albums) and Jeremy creates an aggregate scoring of all 11 albums. We hope you enjoy this final episode. Grab your concert T's, your closets Metal friends, push yourself through the pit, and let's scream our heads off together. Come chill! Dan, Manny, & Billy rank the stereotypical top 5 Rock bands of all time and put them to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!   “We're numb to everything, including like extreme things that are bad, and also great things [...] You see something great and you're just like, oh, whatever, you know? And it's like, there's pure artists going on and you don't even give a fuck because you're just scrolling to the next thing and that sucks in a way.” -Manny Coelho   The Nostalgia Test boys challenge their musical fortitude by trying to rank from best to worst The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Queen. They dig deep to explain each one of their takes, which no doubt are going to make a lot of people angry, share some of the funniest memories of listening to Pink Floyd's Ummagumma, and how that particular album served as a “test” to see if people could hang. One thing they can all agree on is their placement of The Rolling Stones and hold on to your butts (as Samuel L. Jackson's ill-fated Jurassic Park character famously said) because they truly don't care what anyone thinks about their opinions. If you've ever stared at the My Disney Experience app trying to figure out which Magic Kingdom area restaurant is actually worth your money, this episode is for you! We sat down to rank all 20 table service restaurants in the Magic Kingdom area, including everything inside the park plus the four monorail and boat resorts. We're going to tell you exactly which ones we'd book again and which ones we'd cancel today. In this episode, we walk through every single one of the 20 Magic Kingdom area table service restaurants using a tiered system: never eating there again, average and meh, good, and elite. We also rank each one from 20 to 1 so you can see exactly where it lands. We cover food quality, theming, cost, value for money, reservation difficulty, kid friendliness, and the would I book it again test. Whether you're planning your first trip or your fifteenth, this gives you a clear roadmap for where to spend your dining dollars. We also dig into some of the more controversial picks. Chef Mickey's lands lower than most millennials would expect, and we explain exactly why nostalgia isn't enough to save it. Be Our Guest has arguably the best theming of any Walt Disney World restaurant, but we break down why charging character meal prices without giving you a real character meet keeps it stuck in the average tier. Chip and I also disagreed on Kona Cafe, and you'll hear how he convinced me to move it up the list. And just when you think we're done, we close out with our superlatives: best for a milestone occasion, best for toddlers, best value, best fireworks view, easiest reservation to grab, easiest walk up, most overrated, most underrated, and the one restaurant we'd cut from any trip. I'll give you a shout out or answer your question on a future episode.Today, I am bringing you a conversation with a young woman who is practicing homemaking in South Africa. After meeting her now husband online in 2020 and developing a relationship long-distance for several years, Jayms left everything she knew in America to be nearer to David in his homeland. She tells about her experience living in a special home for single women for a couple of years and her recent entrance into married life. She loves sharing how homemaking is different in South Africa and why that is not a bad thing, but rather an opportunity to grow in hospitality and Christ-like servanthood. SHOW NOTESAll resources and links will be on the blog. The Nostalgia Test Podcast

Dan shares a Nostalgic Reflection on The Cranberries' 1993 hit “Dreams.”   “Dreams is like a signal and electric shock, awakening the mind, body, and spirit so that we're prepared to receive a new energy that's going to shatter the mundanity of our lives.”  -Dan Dissinger   Dan starts a new series on The Nostalgia Test Podcast called “Nostalgic Reflections.” These will be solo episodes about very personal connections, curiosities, and thoughts about the hosts' pop culture pasts. On the first Nostalgic Reflection Dan reads an essay about the song “Dreams” by The Cranberries and the transcendent power of lead singer/lyricist Dolores O'Riordan's voice. He talks about the timeless energy of the music, how it's soundtrack magic, and when he specifically loves to listen to this song. He also gets philosophical about dreams and how they remind us all to embrace the unknown. HE WAS MAKING MONEY… BUT LOSING SLEEP AT 3AM The brutal truth most business owners avoid… until it catches up with them. In this raw episode of Level Up + Live, we sit down with Andrew Jimenez, husband, father of three, and owner of Relentless Plumbing in Montgomery County, who went from staying busy with money coming in… to realizing he had no real control over his business. On the outside, everything looked fine. Jobs were getting done. Revenue was coming in. But behind the scenes? Sleepless nights. Constant stress. No clarity. Andrew didn't know his break-even. Didn't understand his cash flow. Was making decisions based on instinct instead of data. This episode pulls back the curtain on what's really happening with many entrepreneurs who are stuck in the grind: working harder and making money but still feeling like they're one bad month away from everything falling apart. After stepping into Level Up + Live Level 2, Andrew faced a hard truth: If he didn't learn his numbers, nothing would truly change. What followed was a complete shift in how he operates: Knowing exactly what his business needs to generate every week Planning ahead for slow seasons instead of reacting to them Making smarter financial decisions in both business and personal life Leading his team with intention and clarity Replacing constant stress with confidence and direction Andrew also shares the moment that forced him to take things seriously, realizing his growing family depended on more than just hard work. It required structure, discipline, and understanding the business at a deeper level. We also tackle a question most business owners avoid: What happens if you continue to ignore your numbers? His answer is direct, frustration, burnout, and a business that ends up controlling you. This conversation is not theory. It's a real look at what happens when someone stops guessing and starts leading with clarity. If you're working hard but still feel stuck… If you're making money but don't fully understand where it's going… If you know something needs to change but haven't taken action… This episode is for you. The Nostalgia Test Podcast

Dan, Manny, & Billy put 8 oldies from the 50s & 60s to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!   “The fact that [“The Twist”] goes on for more than a minute boggles my mind because at weddings usually it's in a mix of oldies. Right? [...] So imagine twisting over the whole length of this song.” -Manny Coelho   This is a fun look back at the oldies from the 50s and 60s that filled the streets of the boys' black parties (also, are block parties only a NY thing?), weddings, family BBQs, and their homes. It's music that was playing daily on 101.1 FM on Long Island. The songs that Dan, Manny, and Billy put rank and put to the test are, Bobby Darin's “Splish Splash,” Little Richard's “Rip It Up,” The Four Tops' “Reach Out I'll Be There,” Aretha Franklin's “Think,” The Supremes' “Baby Love,” The Ronettes' “Be My Baby,” Sinatra's “I've Got You Under My Skin,” and Chubby Checker's “The Twist.” They also talk about some honorable mentions, their favorite cocktails, mob movies and the music that made them so memorable, and more block party talk. This is an episode that opens a whole new part of The Nostalgia Test Podcast because these are songs that were popular way before any of the hosts were born, so can these be nostalgic? Is nostalgia period specific for the individual? This episode answers these questions with a lot of reflections on family and those free concerts in the part that if you were from Long Island your parents dragged you to during the summer. Sometimes there were fireworks, sometimes there were drunken adults dancing the lindy with each other, and most times there was a collection of Igloo coolers being carried with folding chairs and blankets. See, these songs create a time capsule of both the moment they were released and the moments of childhood for kids from the 80s and 90s. So, grab your most comfortable folding chairs, a chill group of friends, set up in the street out front on your block, crack a few domestic beers, and wait to be called in when it's too late. From a childhood built on struggle and survival… to becoming a leader in workplace culture, fitness, and personal growth, his story hits HARD. DIVORCE AT 13. FORCED TO GROW UP FAST. CHASING NFL DREAMS… SHATTERED BY INJURY. Most people break. Joey? He doubled down. This episode pulls back the curtain on the mindset that separates talkers from DOERS: “You don't stop me… you have to BREAK me.” Why most people FAIL to stay consistent (and it's not what you think) The uncomfortable truth about why you're stuck “No skin in the game = no results” The discipline code: devotion, fitness, family, non-negotiables. And just when you think it's all grind… Joey drops the truth bomb leaders NEED to hear: You can inspire everyone… but you CAN'T save everyone. From fasting and faith… to fatherhood and legacy, this conversation exposes the habits, scars, and standards that build REAL men and REAL leaders. If you've been coasting… making excuses… or “waiting for the right time” … this episode will call you out. Because at the end of the day: You can stay comfortable… or you can LEVEL UP. Both are hard. Dan, Manny, & Billy give their honest opinions on the slew of reboot, remake, and legacy sequel slop and rumors, and they put it all to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!   “I feel like as a society, we just went back in time anyway, and [...] should we be happy about it? Like there's so many things that are happening that are like from our era, like, Brittany Spears got arrested for DUI [we're] back at war with the Middle East. I mean, like, we're in the nineties. Even the government wanted to be nostalgic. I think what I'm going  to say, I wanna blame us for this.” -Manny Coelho   If you've been a longtime listener to the pod then you know the boys' opinion on reboots, and they really don't veer away from their absolute hatred and confusion of the reboot craze and legacy sequels that aren't Top Gun 2: Maverick. They react to the news of reboots for Starship Troopers and Faces of Death, and then Billy gives a brief and honest breakdown of the 2025 reboot of Youngbloods. They comes the endless legacy sequel rumors and news. They question the logic for a Demolition Man 2, Face/Off 2, Heat 2, Riddick 4, Toy Story 5, another Conan the Barbarian, Predator w/ Schwarzenegger, and why not do a legacy sequel for one of the most unhinged 80s action movies ever made Commando. Days of Thunder legacy sequel anyone? This one causes the guys to pause and think about what Tom Cruise would be able to do in this film, what's the big stunt, and Dan has a suggestion for Mr. Cruise. Then the guys try to figure out how William Shatner got so famous being so mediocre, Dan gives an energetic F-you monologue to Gene Simmons and then graces everyone with his rendition of the Different World theme song because, that's right, they're producing a sequel series! Why not, right. And while we're at it, let's make a confusing to figure out when it would start Man on Fire Series. If Hollywood is listening (or is interested at all) Billy is ready to help write and produce the Ghost Rider movie we all deserved. What do you do when the career you've spent decades building disappears overnight? In this episode of Level Up + Live, Jeffrey Brown shares a powerful and deeply personal story of disruption, resilience, and reinvention. After more than 20 years in the software industry, leading teams, managing complex projects, and building a stable career, Jeffrey found himself suddenly laid off during the uncertainty of COVID. What followed was another opportunity that ultimately collapsed, leaving him at a crossroads with limited options and a difficult question: what now? Rather than returning to the same path, Jeffrey chose to step into something completely different. At 50 years old, he made the decision to pursue business ownership, launching The Grout Medic of The Woodlands, Texas. With no direct background in the industry, he leaned on his problem-solving mindset, leadership experience, and a willingness to learn as he began building a local, service-based business from the ground up. This conversation goes far beyond entrepreneurship. It offers an honest look at what it means to start over later in life, to carry the responsibility of leading a team, and to navigate the uncertainty that comes with building something new while supporting a family. Jeffrey opens up about the emotional weight of career loss, the pressure of providing for employees who depend on him, and the reality of wearing multiple roles as a business owner, from operations and sales to marketing and customer service. He also shares how his perspective on leadership has evolved, especially in transitioning from managing corporate teams to leading individuals in a hands-on service environment. Throughout the episode, themes of patience, consistency, and personal growth take center stage. Jeffrey reflects on the importance of slowing down, making thoughtful decisions, and staying committed even when progress feels uncertain. He also highlights the critical role of communication and customer experience in building trust and long-term success in a local business. Beyond business, this episode explores what truly matters in this season of life. Jeffrey speaks about family, the transition toward becoming an empty nester, and the legacy he hopes to leave for his children, not just in terms of business, but in how he lives, leads, and shows up each day with integrity and purpose. In this episode, you'll learn: How to navigate the emotional and practical challenges of losing a long-term career What it takes to transition from corporate leadership to entrepreneurship The realities of starting and scaling a service-based business Why patience is a critical skill in both leadership and growth How to create a strong customer experience through communication and follow-through The importance of consistency when building something sustainable How to balance business ownership with family priorities and long-term legacy This episode is a reminder that setbacks can become turning points, and that it's never too late to build something meaningful. Whether you are facing a transition, exploring entrepreneurship, or simply looking for perspective on growth and leadership, Jeffrey's story offers both insight and encouragement. The Nostalgia Test Podcast

Dan & Billy invite Nostalgia Test Podcast all-star Meghan Nolan to put the 1988 Nicolas Cage black “comedy” Vampire's Kiss to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “This is a steaming pile of sh*t. I hate everything about it. It is not nostalgic for me. You cannot be nostalgic, I'm gonna say it again, about a movie that's about him raping somebody [...] It's not a comedy. It's a film that doesn't even know what it is. It doesn't make me nostalgic about the 80s. It doesn't make me nostalgic about bats. It doesn't make me nostalgic about anything. This is a hard fail. I never wanna see this film again. I'm sad that I watched it.” -Meghan Nolan There's not really much else to say. Dan & Billy's guest, Meghan, sums it up pretty well. This “movie” (if you can call it a movie) is an abysmal piece of chaos that should've tanked Nicolas Cage's career, but because of his status as a Coppola in Hollywood he was absolutely fine and was able to continue to run amok forever. In fact, one of the main points in this episode is how it took almost 16 years for Jennifer Beals' career to recover from Vampire's Kiss. Sure, she was in the Denzel Washington movie Devil in a Blue Dress in 1995, but her comeback wasn't until her role in The L-Word in 2004. Yet, Cage was in a string of insane failures and chaotic bullsh*t since 1988, and he continues to have this momentous acting career, even after 1997's Con Air. Another movie that should've killed his career. But I digress. This episode has everything a classic Nostalgia Test episode has, tangents, regrets, jokes, and all the insane laughter about Nic Cages need to have warm yoghurt poured on his toes so her can be “aroused” in a sex scene with Jennifer Beals. Again, this man was allowed to have a career after this! Also, justice for Alva, the poor secretary played by María Conchita Alonso who has to endure being verbally, emotionally, physically, and sexually abused by Peter Loew (Nic Cage) in this abomination of a film. So, grab your fake plastic vampire teeth, reschedule your appointment with your inappropriate therapist, and brace yourself for one of the most insane breakdowns for a movie so bad that the podcast consensus is they'd rather watch Happy Gilmore 2. The Nostalgia Test Podcast

On this Nostalgia Test Mini episode, Dan, Manny, & Billy spin The Wheel of Pauly Shore to see which Pauly Shore movie they'll be putting to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!   “I watched [Son in Law and] I was like, how the fuck did they let this man make movies?” -Billy D'Elia   This Mini Nostalgia Test episode spins out of control (no pun intended) way before the guys even spin The Wheel of Pauly Shore. After the Son in Law episode, Dan & Manny were curious if any of the other Pauly Shore movies could even be nostalgic, so here we are. Will it be: In The Army Now Jury Duty Encino Man Bio-Dome They get Billy's reactions of Son in Law even though he missed the episode, they talk about Brendan Fraser saving Encino Man and how it's way more his movie than Pauly Shore, and Dan reminds everyone that Bad Bunny was the best part of Happy Gilmore 2, much like he was the best part of The Super Bowl, that's right, he was! Zach Miller Risked Everything With a Family to Feed… And It Paid Off | Sean Meyers | Ep 199

HE WALKED AWAY FROM THE SAFE PATH… AND BUILT HIS OWN LANE FROM SCRATCH This episode of Level Up + Live delivers a raw, unfiltered look at what it really takes to step out of comfort, bet on yourself, and build a life rooted in purpose. Sean Meyers sits down with Zach Miller, founder of Texas Premier Black Car Services, husband, father, and man of faith, whose journey challenges everything we've been taught about success. Zach didn't follow the traditional script. He dropped out of college, started at the bottom sweeping warehouse floors, and worked his way up through the corporate world… only to realize that hard work alone wasn't going to create the life he truly wanted. Despite long hours, strong performance, and years of dedication, he found himself stuck, underpaid, unfulfilled, and searching for something more. Then came the moment that changed everything. After one frustrating experience in a poorly run Uber, Zach saw an opportunity others would ignore. Instead of complaining, he took action. With a growing family, no guarantees, and real risk on the table, he made the decision to start his own luxury transportation company, building it one ride, one relationship, and one leap of faith at a time. In this episode, Zach opens up about: The internal battle between security and calling What fear really looks like when you have a family depending on you Why most people stay stuck and how to break out of it The role faith plays in navigating uncertainty and risk The early stages of building a business while still working demanding hours Letting go of control and learning to grow beyond being the “technician” The reality that entrepreneurship isn't for everyone, and why that's okay This conversation goes beyond business. It's about identity, responsibility, and the kind of man you choose to become when the pressure is on. Zach's story is a reminder that there is no perfect time to start, no guaranteed outcome, and no path without fear. But there is a difference between those who stay where they are… and those who decide to move forward anyway. If you've ever questioned whether you're capable of more, this episode will challenge you to take a hard look at the answer. Because in the end, the question isn't whether the opportunity is there. It's whether you're willing to act on it. Be Our Guest! How did it happen? Why did it happen? Are we to blame for all his movies? These are the types of questions the guys try to figure out while literally avoiding talking about Son in Law. In this raw, soul-stirring episode of Level Up + Live, host Sean Meyers sits down with May Adams, a faith-driven entrepreneur, mother of three, author, and business strategist who helps women break limiting beliefs and rise into their God-given calling. But this conversation isn't the typical “success story.” It's the story behind the success… the crushing… and the rebuilding. May opens up about the moment everything changed, when she realized climbing the ranks, building teams, and chasing “worldly success” had left something missing deep inside. Then the unimaginable happened: success collapsed, money disappeared, and everything she thought defined her was stripped away. The house? Gone. The financial security? Gone. The identity built on achievement? Shattered. But what came out of the fire was something far more powerful. Inside this unforgettable conversation, May and Sean unpack: Why delayed obedience can cost you everything The hidden danger of building success on pride instead of purpose What it really means when life forces you into the “pain cave” Why God sometimes strips away comfort to build character How entrepreneurs can shift from empty achievement to purpose-driven leadership May shares how losing everything ultimately gave her the one thing she didn't have before: clarity, conviction, and unshakable faith. This episode will challenge how you think about success, leadership, business, parenting, and the journey toward becoming the person you were truly created to be. The Nostalgia Test Podcast

Dan & Manny put the 2003 Spike TV classic MXC (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST!   “Everyone dies or has diarrhea after this show [...] They're throwing up [...] things are coming outta their nose, their eyes [...] I hope there's a medic. They should have had [...] a part of a show where they showed [contestants] being wrapped up.” -Manny   This episode is just as unhinged as the show itself, which says a lot about how out of bounds MXC (Most Extreme Elimination Challenge) was in 2003. Dan & Manny watch one episode from three different seasons for this test, and unfortunately, they are without Billy on this one, but he does make a special texting appearance later, so all those Billy fans will get their fix. Dan & Manny try to figure out once and for all if this show was just a bunch of captive human beings trying to make their way home, is this show racist, why was there such a dubbing craze in the early 2000s, Spike TV being okay with low budget nonsense, and so much more. The main question about MXC, did anyone die during the making? So, get out your chain wallets, put a short-sleeved shirt over a long-sleeved shirt, crack open a Sprite Remix, and “DON'T GET ELIMINATED!” This is a fun one. You can write a similar book on 98 [...] but I think 99 is just a little more insane in the membrane.” -Ross Benes This episode of Nostalgia 101 author Ross Benes takes Manny & Dan to school on all things 1999. His book 1999 The Year Low Culture Conquered America and Kickstarted Our Bizarre Times seems to have foreseen the times we find ourselves in and might hold key answers to some off questions about the cultural pickle we're attempting to escape. They go from unpacking the impact of The Jerry Springer Show to The Insane Clown Posse, Juggalos, and Beanie Babies to Y2K, Napster, and the oversaturate porn industry. HE LOST HIS JOB… ALMOST LOST HIS FAMILY… AND NOW HE'S BUILDING A KINGDOM-FOCUSED BUSINESS FROM THE GROUND UP.  This episode of the Level Up + Live is NOT just another “business growth” conversation. This is about pressure. This is about failure. This is about faith under fire.  Sean Meyers sits down with David Wilkinson, owner of Cornerstone Construction, and what unfolds is raw, honest, and deeply powerful. From losing his job… To shutting down his first business after cash flow collapse… To battling addiction that nearly destroyed his marriage… To rebuilding his family and leadership from the inside out… David doesn't sugarcoat a thing. He breaks down: Why most entrepreneurs confuse “entrepreneur” with isolation The brutal lesson that being good at construction ≠ knowing how to build a business The “teabag in hot water” analogy that will hit you right in the gut Why protecting your family matters more than protecting your profit And how prayer shifted from a to-do list… to a real relationship This isn't hustle culture hype. This is humility. This is healing. This is a man choosing legacy over ego. And when David shares the moment his 22-year-old son asked about joining the family business? Let's just say… you'll feel it.  If you're a business owner silently carrying pressure… If you feel successful on the outside but overwhelmed on the inside… If you're building something but afraid you might lose what matters most… This conversation is your wake-up call. Faith. Family. Leadership under pressure. Building a business without losing your soul. This is what leveling up actually looks like. Watch. Listen. Reflect. In this powerful episode of the Level Up + Live Podcast, host Sean Meyers sits down with business owner and entrepreneur Shelley Guthrie for an honest conversation about faith, obedience, leadership, and the unseen journey behind long-term success. Shelley recently celebrated 23 years in business, but her story is far from a smooth path. Behind the longevity are failed ventures, financial risks, hard decisions, and seasons of uncertainty that tested her resilience and her faith. In this episode, she shares what most people never see: the setbacks, the lessons learned the hard way, and the moments where trusting God became the difference between pushing forward and giving up. Listeners will hear the powerful story of a single mother who opened her first business when her daughter was just three months old, built a company while raising three children, homeschooled during the early years, and learned how to navigate the constant tension between leadership, motherhood, and personal sacrifice. Shelley also opens up about: The reality behind business failures and how to move forward without fear Why many entrepreneurs make costly decisions before seeking guidance or prayer How a simple, honest prayer life can bring clarity and peace in leadership The importance of relationships over transactions in building long-term customer loyalty What she wishes she had done differently during the busiest seasons of her life How learning to care for herself made her a better leader and mother Beyond business, Shelley shares how mission work in Haiti transformed her perspective on success, gratitude, and service. What began as a trip to help others became a calling that has impacted her family, her business, and the lives of dozens of children. Through her salon and community support, more than $250,000 has been raised over the past 12 years to support an orphanage and create opportunities for families in need. This episode is a reminder that leadership is not about titles, recognition, or growth at any cost. It is about obedience, consistency, service, and staying aligned with the purpose you are called to live out. If you are an entrepreneur, business owner, parent, or leader navigating uncertainty, pressure, or the weight of responsibility, this conversation offers both encouragement and perspective. Success is not built on perfect decisions, it is built on faith, resilience, and a willingness to grow through every season. What if the real reason relationships fall apart isn't cheating, money, or even conflict… but quietly growing in different directions? In this raw, unfiltered, and unexpectedly hilarious episode of Level Up + Live, host Sean Meyers brings back the most requested guest of all time, his wife, Kendra Meyers, for their third appearance. Together, they pull back the curtain on what it actually takes to grow together instead of drifting apart, while building businesses, leading teams, navigating faith, managing stress, and still liking each other at the end of the day. Inside this episode: Why “personal growth” can secretly destroy marriages if you're not careful The communication mistake almost every entrepreneur makes at home What to do when one spouse is obsessed with growth… and the other isn't Faith, leadership, stress, exhaustion, and the real conversations couples avoid The one weekly question that can change your marriage forever No fluff. No fake perfection. Just two imperfect action-takers having the conversations most couples need but never have. Fair warning: This episode might spark some uncomfortable (but necessary) conversations with your spouse. Hit play. Share it with your partner. And ask yourself: Are we growing together… or just growing? Be Our Guest! Dan, Manny. & Billy put the 1993 Bill Murray comedy mind f**k Groundhog Day to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “There's a quote that [Bill Murray] says, he's like, I killed myself so many times. I don't even exist anymore.” -Manny Well, the groundhog saw his shadow yesterday which means 6 more weeks of winter! You know what that means campers, “rise and shine! And don't forget your booties ‘cause it's cold out there today.” This was a really fun episode, and the guys get into so many of the layered rumors, conspiracies, multiverses, and quotables from this classic 1993 comedy. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll get confused, and you'll feel like it's happening over and over again. People, this is what nostalgia is all about, chillin with your best friends and making up alternate universes for a movie late into the night. So grab your favorite furry friend, invite a group of nerds over, and grab a hot toddy, because there's 6 more weeks of winter and The Nostalgia Test Podcast is going nowhere.
