Pin trading! In the beginning, getting the character's autographs is fun for the kids. As they phase out of wanting to get autographs, they phase into trading and collecting pins. All of the Disney parks have had various pins since their openings. However, it was until 1999 that trading pins became popular. Today, it seems to be a sport. The wonderful Nic Rouleau, Broadway's record-setting Elder Price in The Book of Mormon, joins David on this episode to share his love of the magical world of Disney. Nic is a true Disney fan--he shares that it was the music from the Disney movies that truly was his gateway into loving the brand--and discusses how watching "The Little Mermaid," "Hercules," and, his favorite "A Goofy Movie" as a kid cemented his love for the Mouse. As a California native, Nic visited Disneyland in his youth, but when he was around 10 years old he visited Walt Disney World for the first time and it was a game-changer. He and David discuss the coincidence of playing a role on Broadway that is equally obsessed with the Orlando Park, and why the Parks are such a magical place to visit. Nic shares his experience of playing Woody from "Toy Story" on The Disney Cruise Line, a character he loved, and continues to love--and how he was introduced to Pin Trading while at sea--while also being "friends" with Prince Phillip. Teri and I were luck enough to sit down with Sonia from Fandom Manor to find out what inspired her to create Mulan and the Great Stone Dragon. Sonia opened up about her diagnosis of breast cancer, and what it's like as cancer survivor and how Disney helped give her strength to get though the most difficult time in her life. She also touches on her going back to school to get a degree in Art Therapy, to help others struggling with depression heal by using art to heal. This podcast is very inspiring, hearing Sonia speak about everything she needed to over come..and how she want everyone to experience happiness and peace. Hudson and I will go over all the basics of pin trading etiquette - explaining what they are, how you can get started trading relatively inexpensively and where all you can find them and from whom. We'll explain the elusive mystery pins, pinboards and divulge some off-the-beaten-path places to locate possible good ones. Lastly, we'll discuss which series are our favorites.  Today, I'm talking about Pin Trading.  I follow the history and answer: How did it start? And roll around to : How do I do it? Its pretty thorough except for one simple thing that I failed to mention: green lanyards on CastMembers means they trade only with children. I also delve into what you might trade, different types of pins that are available to trade, and even where you might get some pins a little cheaper to get you started. Its a fun activity that really doesn't cost much and is easy to get home. As for me, I don't trade, but I do have a couple of pins, including the 5-legged goat that appears on the mural in the Contemporary.
