This series is sponsored by Mira and Daniel Stokar, and this episode is sponsored by dailygiving.org.In this episode of the 18Forty Podcast, we talk to musician Matisyahu Miller—known as “Matisyahu”—who has publicly re-embraced his Judaism and Zionism since October 7.Matisyahu's public persona has long been subject to scrutiny and analysis. Comparatively few people, though, have listened to his story in depth. In this episode we discuss:How has the public expression of Matisyahu's Jewish identity ebbed and flowed throughout his life?Is there anything Matisyahu would change about the Orthodox community? How has the inwardness of Matisyahu's Jewish identity guided him throughout his life?Tune in to hear a conversation about what it means to be, in Matisyahu's words, “a pnimius Yid.”Grammy-nominated artist Matisyahu is a singer, songwriter, rapper, and alternative rock musician. He's known for his skill in blending reggae and hip hop as he provides a raw expression of his spirituality. His long and winding career consists of seven albums including chart-topping Light, Youth, Spark Seeker, Akeda, and Undercurrent with hits such as "One Day", "Sunshine", and "King Without A Crown". Through his lyrics, Matisyahu develops a personal, artistic, and sophisticated way to express the yearning for deep spiritual meaning, and as his own beliefs opened up to find more variety and depth, the desire for his performances to match the unpredictable flow of life developed as well. Disney World And Beyond with The Gold Key Adventurers Society
Beating The Heat at Disney World This week, the Gold Key Adventurers Society gathers to share some tips on how to beat the heat while visiting Walt Disney World in Florida during the peak summer season. To avoid the scorching heat, we suggest going to the parks early in the morning and late in the evening, taking breaks during the middle of the day, and spending time at the pool when it's hottest. For those staying overnight or longer, choosing to stay at a Walt Disney World resort hotel can enhance the overall experience by taking advantage of early entry and extended park hours, and hopping between parks to avoid the heat from the hottest ones, such as Animal Kingdom and Epcot. When it comes to seeking ways to escape the heat, we share with listeners the various indoor attractions that provide a good respite. The Magic Kingdom has indoor attractions like PhilharMagic and Enchanted Tales with Belle. In Epcot, indoor options like Living with the Land and The Three Caballeros boat ride are recommended. In Hollywood Studios, the light show at night is beautiful as is Toy Story Midway Mania. We also share our favorite cooling gear for staying comfortable and suggest using handheld fans, lightweight, rechargeable fans, and cooling neck gaiters. We also caution listeners against spending too much on overpriced cooling towels and suggest using a bandana or wet ball cap. Additionally, we share fun facts about the Disney parks, including some history and trivia. We also discuss some of our favorite pools and water attractions in Walt Disney World, including Stormalong Bay and the Big Blue Pool. We even suggest finding rest and respite at pool bars and sit-down meals on the hot days. We emphasize the importance of staying on-site to quickly return to the resort and avoiding traveling off-property during peak season. For those looking to relax and avoid the heat on Florida's hottest summer days, some tips include arranging for preferred parking or utilizing the Skyliner. We also recommend indulging in some treats like Dole Whip or a citrus swirl, and drinks from Trader Sam's, and the pool bars at Riviera and Nomad Lounge. We also discuss an upcoming Indiana Jones movie and share some alternative options for cooling down, taking a humorous note in the popular song and making a funny joke. We close the show with some recommendations for staying hydrated while visiting theme parks and for avoiding heat stroke and dehydration. We suggest bringing water bottles or simply asking for water at quick serve counters. We also discuss drinking electrolyte beverages like Powerade or smart water for salt replenishment. And we remind our listeners that it's important to stay cool and not party too hard during the hot Florida summers, and to take breaks when necessary. So go out there, follow these tips and have a great time at Walt Disney World! As always, a huge thank you to our sponsor, Key to the World Travel. Rob't Coltrin became a Disney Legend in 2020 (inducted at the D23 Expo 2022 ceremony) after spending 30 years at Walt Disney Imagineering. As a show set designer, concept artist, art director, and creative executive, Rob't became a go-to artist at Walt Disney Imagineering for concept work, storytelling, and ride layouts. Rob't is famous for helping design such noteworthy attractions as Expedition Everest, Toy Story Mania, Radiator Springs Racers, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Enchanted Tales of Beauty and the Beast, Mystic Manor, Mickey's Philharmagic, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, and the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (to name just a few). His likeness can also be found as a Disney S.E.A. character (Prof. R. Blauerhimmel, which fittingly translates to "Blue Sky"). In this podcast episode, I chat with Rob't about his career at Walt Disney Imagineering, including some of the attractions he helped bring to life. We also "geek out" together about ride layout design and blue sky development. What is your favorite Rob't Coltrin land or attraction? Hello and welcome to the best Disney podcast that is recorded by a couple of Disney-loving, kitten-crazy, floppy eared dog enthusiasts. This week in Disney News, rumored earnings from Mulan make the movie a huge success. This makes us wonder if the rumor that Pixar's Soul will also be released on streaming has a strong likelihood to be true. Tokyo Disneyland also soft-opened Enchanted Tales of Beauty and the Beast, another trackless ride with lots to see. Joe and I watched the ride video and were a little underwhelmed, but maybe it's different if you actually ride it! Sit back this week and prepare to have your mind bent and your ride experiences forever altered. Let me explain. You know how authors tend to write more background on a character than is ever given in a story? This week, we delve into the not-so-well-known ride backgrounds after seeing the mind-blowing post that you're actually dead when riding The Haunted Mansion. Yep! You read that right! You die during the ride! Hear about this and other crazy ride backgrounds that you wouldn't guess in your wildest dreams. (Seriously, you won't believe the back stories for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad OR Pirates of the Caribbean!) We hope you have a magical week full of pumpkin spice (if that's your sort of thing) and apple-picking. Check us out on Facebook and Youtube or submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode or support us on Patreon.

Links/notes mentioned in this episode All-Star Movies Resort Minnie Vans Using Lyft at Disney World Early Morning Magic – Magic Kingdom Quick tip of the day From Tami B...Just as Shannon recommends choosing your dining based on what park you'll be in, you should choose your FastPasses based on where you'll be in the park! Obviously, availability plays a role for popular attractions, but if you can help it, check out a map and select your FastPass times based on where/when you'll be in the park. This will save you a LOT of trekking back and forth. For example, if you have a reservation at Tusker House, schedule a FastPass for the Safari or Festival of the Lion King right before your meal. Eating lunch at Be Our Guest? Head to Enchanted Tales with Belle right after! Planning to watch the parade from Frontierland? Book a FastPass for Splash Mountain at 3:30 so you can hop on as soon as the floats clear. I did my best to follow this strategy for our last trip, and my family was thoroughly impressed - and grateful for less walking!
