About Love Ministries: Love Ministries About author, Rachel Ann Ridge Rachel Ridge picked up a paintbrush at age 35 and became a professional artist, wrote the first of six books and started a speaking career at 50, and became a life coach/creativity coach at 56. She believes it is never too late to pursue your dreams, and loves helping people do just that. Founder of Ridgeline Creative Co., Rachel provides keynotes, workshops, retreats, and resources to individuals and groups seeking to foster creativity, problem-solving, and support through transformational art and creative practice. Creators, business owners, writers, collaborators, teams, and leaders can all benefit from the inspirational work she brings to audiences and participants. Aided by a stray donkey who arrived on her doorstep and never left, Rachel boot-strapped her art and design business through the Great Recession, all while raising a family and honing her story-telling craft. As an author and speaker, she delights audiences with humor and insight; as a creative coach she helps clients discover their passions, find their creative niches, and launch whole-hearted businesses. Mom to three adult children, and now two rescue donkeys. Nana to five.  About Host, Karla Nivens: After graduating from Texas Tech University, Karla earned her teaching certificate and began her career as an elementary music teacher in the Dallas Independent School District. She also sang for Grammy award-winning Gospel recording artists Kirk Franklin, CeCe Winans, Fred Hammond, Donnie McClurkin, Crystal Lewis, Willie Neal Johnson, John P. Kee, Alvin Slaughter, Tamela Mann, and Michael Buble'. She's traveled the world and ministered to diverse audiences in music. During her travels, she had the opportunity to sing on the Jay Leno Show, Soul Train, the Stellar Awards, and the Billy Graham Crusade with Kirk Franklin. She took a hiatus while staying at home with her children for several years and re-entered the workforce as a worship leader at Highland Park United Methodist Church. Karla has worshipped with Highland Park for the past 17 years. Currently, Karla is building the Racial Justice ministry for Highland Park UMC. Karla has also served as an adjunct instructor for Visible Music College and in 2014 released a CD entitled “True Worship.” Five years ago a good friend suggested she turn her heart toward fulfilling the Great Commission. Karla began traveling on yearly mission trips to Costa Rica and Africa. On those trips the Lord began to awaken the motto He gave her in college – “Influencing Culture for the Good of the Kingdom.” As an answer to this awakening, Karla and Dr. Roosevelt founded Karla Nivens Entertainment. Under this umbrella, Karla partnered with Love Ministries, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, started a small group for women, and a radio show both titled “Every Heart Every Woman.” Karla encourages her audience to quiet the noise and restore balance in their daily lives through inspirational entertainment. The show airs Sundays as a podcast on iTunes and Podbean weekly. The show also airs in video on YouTube. In 2019, Karla released her book, True Leaders with Heart, packed with weekly meditations for leaders.

“Liminal space can best be described as going through a change or going from place to place—from one thing to the next,” says transitions expert Melissa Cohen, a licensed clinical social worker in New York and founder of the mental wellness website A Redefined You. “It’s the space between what is and what will happen next,” she says. In other words, liminal space refers to the actual space or time in which you shift from one phase to another." Have you ever found yourself in a liminal space? You may not have known to call it by that name, but it tends to be uncomfortable or aggravating, or even painful, depending on how long time in liminal space lasts. In this episode, Author and Creative Coach, Rachel Anne Ridge, helps us understand how to better navigate the journey through liminal space. Rachel is mom to three adult children and Nana to five littles.   Little did I know when I asked Rachel to be on the podcast, that the day before our interview she wrote a viral blog post encouraging the lonely mom of older kids (click here to read it).   Her honest, yet hopeful words, are what I’m sure caused 37,000 + people on Facebook to like her words. She admits the hard parts but encourages moms to keep their eyes on the bigger purpose. Show Highlights:  Rachel shares personal parenting challenges and what she (and her husband) did to overcome them. Discover a variety of ways to get God-centered (none of which include getting up early). Hear Rachel’s parenting regret and advice on how to avoid it. Be encouraged by Rachel’s greatest parenting strength. Do you have those people in your life who give off a calming presence and just being around them makes you feel like everything is going to work out in the end?  My friend Rachel is like that.  She is an artist who can also say has written a book about her stray donkey.  Now not many people can say that. What we chat about: Her grown children and her perspective looking back An unexpected way she shows love to her husband A practical way in which they have been a neighbor to someone who needed it A glimpse into life with small kids and a small business How the quote "opportunity favors the prepared" has proven true in her life     Strategy to Struggle Well Remember: you're more likely to succeed at your plan if you make it small and actionable AND if you choose when this week you'll do it. How can you show your husband (or a friend) that you care in an unexpected way this week? Is there a neighbor that comes to mind who could use some tangible assistance this week? What project has been weighing on you that you need to just start? My plan: I'm going to cook a nice meal with my husband because he REALLY loves that and we will discuss Tsh's questions and celebrate his new job.   What about you?  Find me on your favorite social media channel and tell me about it!
