Delving into "Ma'aseh Bereishit" - including the order of creation, heavens or earth first? It's debatable, by Beit Shammai and Beit Hillel: top down or bottom up? The later sages arrive at a resolution. And yet, the discussion of the Rakiya (firmament) is still rather beyond what we can make sense of. Also, a dispute between R. Yishmael [Who's Who] and R. Akiva, who have significantly different approaches in interpretation of the Torah. In this case, R. Akiva is presented as the student of Nachum Ish Gamzu, and the function of "et" to teach additional halakhah, or in this case, the discussion of the way of creation.
The Women's Health, Wisdom, and... WINE! podcast is a biweekly conversation with practitioners, providers, patients & healers about complex reproductive medicine & women's health challenges, the value of an integrative approach to these challenges, many of the women's health topics you're already thinking about & uncomfortable talking about & my personal favorite... WINE!For most women, pregnancy and new motherhood is a joy — at least some of the time. But most mothers also experience worry, disappointment, guilt, competition, frustration, and even anger and fear. Giving birth to a new identity can be as demanding as giving birth to a baby. Becoming a mother is an identity shift, and one of the most significant physical and psychological changes a woman will ever experience. Matrescence, the process of becoming a mother, has been largely unexplored in the medical community. Instead of focusing on the woman's identity transition, more research is focused on how the baby turns out. However, a woman's story, in addition to how her psychology impacts her parenting, is important to examine, too. Of course, this transition is also significant for fathers and partners, but women who go through the hormonal changes of pregnancy may have a specific neurobiological experience.

In Episode 14, Colin interviews two young Ethiopian-Somali American poets, Rakiya and Ahmed Mohamed. The interview was recorded at Forage Market in Lewiston, Maine, shortly after President Trump’s Executive Order banning travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries including Somalia. The siblings—one in high school, the other in college—recount their experiences emigrating from Ethiopia and building a life in America. They reflect on how the poetic, playful nature of the Somali language and their discovery of Def Jam Poetry and Spoken Word inspired them each to write. Ahmed recounts the experience of performing at Spoken Word competitions in New York City, and Rakiya reflects on reconciling the many facets of her identity. And they reflect on how they understand the intersecting facets of their Black, Muslim, Immigrant and American selves under a Trump presidency. The hosts discuss comparisons between Thailand and the USA, and the anxiety of repatriation. Colin describes chatting with his daughter about love and hate, and Donald struggles against strange rhetoric as his Martian Aphasia returns. Music by Reports (reports.bandcamp.com/).
