Hands up if you feel guilty for being excited about your business. For working on the weekend, or taking a shorter maternity leave, or taking on that extra project and being less present in your home. For daring to build something for you- and not making absolutely EVERYTHING be about your kids. Juggling a growing business alongside the heavy load of motherhood is a LOT. Trying to stay on top of all of the things is a LOT. And constantly comparing ourselves- to those around us, to the stereotypical mums we see on tv, to the "perfect" lives we are shown on instagram? It feeds that guilt until you end up feeling like you've failed at everything. The thing is, no one has this figured out. No one is doing it perfectly. And EVERYONE deals with the guilt of trying to balance these two very important aspects of their lives. If you are keeping your small humans happy and your business afloat- that is enough. You are doing enough. And alongside all of those added obstacels and challenges of running a business? There are a lot of benefits too. Not just for you, but for your children. This epsiode is all about highlighting the ways in which being an entrepreneur enriches your children's lives, your family's lifestyle, and the community around you. It celebrates the hardships of entrepreneurship and motherhood, gives you the great big pat on the back you deserve (and need to hear!) and shares the three best things about running a business while raising tiny humans. This is a short and sweet solo episode and I hope you'll find it helpful, relatable and a little bit inspirational too.  Thanks for joining the conversation!   Don't forget to like/follow the podcast to stay up to date on new episodes, and if you like what you hear please give us a share!Connect with me: Rhiannon LoudenInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/rhiannonlouden.co.uk & https://www.instagram.com/rhiannonealeWebsite: https://www.rhiannonlouden.co.ukSubstack: https://theraremumchronicles.substack.com/ Podcast instagram: https://www.instagram.com/courageandchaospodIntro/Outro music credit: https://www.purple-planet.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/courage-chaos--4358445/support.

When journalist Lucy Jones had her first baby, she noticed remarkable changes taking place - not only was her body changing, but so too was her own psychology. By her third child, Lucy went searching for answers to her questions. What she discovered was "matrescence," a term coined by psychiatrist Alexandra Sacks that put into words the enormity of her own transformation. So she wrote a book about it, titled Matrescence: On the Metamorphosis of Pregnancy, Childbirth and Motherhood. In this moving interview, hear Ricki in conversation with Lucy, discussing the spectacular, life-changing shift that takes place for women during motherhood. Matrescence is defined as the process of becoming a mother, however this is a term that hardly anyone has ever heard of; even women who have recently become mothers. Holly, mother of two, women's circle leader, and former ICU nurse reflects on the experiences that led to her deep appreciation for and curiosity of matrescence. Our fast-paced, modern, industrial, Western culture tells us to snap back just weeks after giving birth, however brain scans will tell us this is actually physically impossible to do. Everyone knows what to expect during puberty when a girl morphs into a woman, however nobody talks about what to expect during the next major transition from maiden to mother or even the final major shift from motherhood to perimenopause and finally menopause.Resources Mentioned:Matrescence–birth of the mother by Dr. Alexandra Sacks Anthropologist Dana Raphael in her book Being Female: Reproduction, Power and ChangeSupport the showJOIN OUR NEW, PRIVATE COMMUNITY! What do we do when we're experiencing significant changes physically, emotionally and spiritually in the years running up to menopause, all we want to do is run far, far away, but we still have kids at home who need our care and support? This question is coming up a lot in our community and that's why I'm so grateful to be talking with Matrescence expert, journalist and coach, Amy Taylor Kabbaz, who also happens to be smack in the middle of perimenopause, with three children at home. Over the past decade, Amy has interviewed hundreds of authors, maternal health experts, and teachers, trying to decipher why so many mothers feel burnt out, overwhelmed, and addicted to being busy. Over the past year she's been exploring how we can support ourselves through the huge transition of perimenopause, and she shares the fruits with us today.  We explore:How the ‘fork in the road' of perimenopause is helping Amy to change deep patterns, including shifting her old go-to approach of “give me the pill, I've got sh*t to do”.Perimenopause as a kind of ‘pregnancy' which prepares us for the rebirth of ourselves through the spiritual initiation of menopause. How to manage perimenopause symptoms  including exhaustion, irritability and anger, brain fog and the often overwhelming ‘motherload' of care and responsibility, and still show up for our kids.---Find out more about the Red School Menstruality Leadership programme: www.menstrualityleadership.com---The Menstruality Podcast is hosted by Red School. Hello beautiful ones! I've somehow taken a bit of an unexpected hiatus from the podcast lately, but I'm really, really delighted to share a new episode with you today.  It's a super fun and beautiful conversation between three friends – myself, Mara Glatzel and Becca Piastrelli.  In this episode, we're turning the tables and Mara and Becca are interviewing ME about the launch of my upcoming book, Mothershift:  Reclaiming Motherhood as a Rite of Passage. If you aren't familiar with Mara and Becca, let me tell you a little bit about them first! Mara Glatzel is a coach, podcast host and author of the book Needy:  How to advocate for your needs and claim your sovereignty and Becca Piastrelli is a community gatherer and women's circle facilitator, podcast host and author of the book Root and Ritual:  Timeless ways to connect with land, lineage, community and the self.  These two are friends with each other and they've been my friends for quite a number of years now, and they have been *tireless* champions for Mothershift and my work.  Becca is also an alumni of my MotherSHIFT program.  They both played a key role in my ability to get a book deal for Mothershift, and for that I will be endlessly grateful. In this episode, Mara and Becca and I talk about: > Why I wrote Mothershift and why this book is so important right now.  You'll hear me talk about how I feel like I'm this book's doula, and how easy it's been to share the messages that it holds. > Why "the mothers aren't all right," including my perspective on the US Surgeon General's advisory on the mental health of parents.  We talk about the modern conditions that are particularly challenging for mothers as well as parts of the rite of passage into motherhood that have been difficult – but also filled with potential – since time immemorial. > Our relationship with social media, about how it has become a surrogate for the witnessing we need as we step into motherhood, and whether or not we're actually ever seeing the *real* truth about anyone's experience of mothering. > Is postpartum forever?  We speculate how many years it takes to feel fully embodied in your experience of motherhood. > The role of ritual in supporting and uplifting our matrescence experiences. I do hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we loved recording it, and that it gives you a special sneak peek into the writing of Mothershift.
