¡Quia!, ¿quién osa proferir semejantes desatinos sobre My Man Dex? El hombre a quien yo quiero tiene mucho más talento que el evil twin de Jesse Garon. Y Blueses que, al más puro estilo del Reverendo Harry Powell, llegan a lo más profundo del alma humana. Still Around? ¡Ja!
The Third Men Podcast is excited to present an all-new extended interview with the legendary Dex Romweber! As founder and driving force behind the powerhouse group Flat Duo Jets, Dexter and his compatriots have lead the way for a return to the honesty, energy, soulfulness and singular vision of rock and roll music in the modern era. Icons like Neko Case, The Black Keys and Cat Power cite Dex as an inspiration, and they're not alone. When a young drummer named Jack White encountered the power and fury of Flat Duo Jets, the aspiring musician was moved to return to the guitar -- and what's more, moved to find a way to spread to others the kind of passion and energy that he himself had bore witness to. Dexter and Jack would meet and collaborate several times over the years, most notably on the only Blue Series single to feature White himself so prominently. We sat down with Dexter to walk through his storied career, and to get the scoop on some exciting NEW live performances that are sure to wow listeners as he has done so well for the past 35+ years. See Dexter perform in the new LIVE AT THE CAVE series, broadcast to ticket holders on Sunday, September 20th at 7pmEST -- with subsequent new shows lined up for every third Sunday of the month! Info on how to purchase tickets can be found on our website. We'd like to thank Mr. Romweber for the great conversation, and thanks to all of you for taking a listen. Hope you enjoy this discussion as much as we enjoyed recording it! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The final hit from a brilliant talent, a lovely interpretation from one of the biggest talents in popular music, and the fulfillment of the promise of an interesting song. It Doesn't Matter Anymore, originally by Buddy Holly, covered by Linda Ronstadt and by Flat Duo Jets. Outro Music is Fell in Love With a Girl by The White Stripes.
There's a long tradition of blues and folk troubadours writing about subjects that are downright criminal. This week, hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot talk about true crime, or at least allegedly true crimes, that have been immortalized in song. Plus, a review of the latest from singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis, and a remembrance of drummer Sara Romweber.
Welcome to the March edition of the Aquarium Drunkard Transmissions podcast, our monthly collection of audio esoterica and conversations—superbloom edition. We’ve got a pretty interesting collection of talks this month. First up, actor, writer, and covert ethnomusicologist Jason Mantzoukas joins co-host Jason P. Woodbury at Gold Diggers Sound in East Hollywood to discuss the ways improv comedy and jazz inform his work on shows like The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Big Mouth, and Parks and Recreation. Then, an audio version of the postscript Josh Neas wrote for the late Sara Romweber, who passed away earlier this month at 55. As a member of Let’s Active, Romweber was a pivotal part of the Chapel Hill indie rock scene—as a North Carolinian, Josh brought his ground-level view to her legacy and impact on the world of independent rock & roll. And finally, we join Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker of Low at the Valley Bar in downtown Phoenix, to discuss the band’s 12th album, Double Negative, a noisy, some times claustrophobic look at our present moment. Perhaps no record has more accurately captured the confusion and tension of the current digital and societal moment.
Our featured guest is Dex Romweber, formerly of Flat Duo Jets. He also played with Dex Romweber Duo and has recently released a solo album entitled Carrboro. Dex talks about his life and career! Plus Shannon and Phil talk about NCGA shenanigans and the Doug Jones victory in Alabama! In 1984, right when the world was embracing the synthesizers and funny haircuts of New Wave, the Flat Duo Jets emerged from Chapel Hill, bringing everything back to basics - Dexter Romweber on vocals and guitar, and Chris “Crow” Smith on drums.Daniel 13 is issuing Wild Wild Love, a two-disc set that brings together the band’s first full length, 1990’s Flat Duo Jets, along with 1984’s cassette-only In Stereo EP and a second disc of bonus material. We talk with Romweber about the band’s origins, what led to the reissue of these recordings, and the band's appearances on both MTV and Late Night with David Letterman.
Boston area film critics Steve Head and John Black discuss new Blu-ray and DVD releases including TORA! TORA! TORA!, FRIGHT NIGHT, THE HELP, VELVET GOLDMINE, THE SIMPSONS: SEASON 9, ASTRAL CITY: A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY, DEXTER ROMWEBER: TWO-HEADED COW and the Criterion Collection's release of THE LADY VANISHES and DESIGN FOR LIVING.
Drop everything. This is the most kickass album you've heard all year. "Is That You In The Blue?" is the second record for the brother-sister duo, and it's clear here why Dex was a -- or the -- major influence on Jack White. Just drop everything, listen to the podcast and get yourselves at least 10 percent cooler.
