The Queen of Country Pop has sold over 100 million albums worldwide and won five Grammy awards, but her path to stardom was not easy. Growing up in poverty, Shania's mother sent her out to sing in bars and clubs at a young age to make ends meet. Fame found her at 30 and, to this day, Shania Twain remains the only female artist to have three consecutive diamond albums in the US. Her record-breaking second album, The Woman in Me, was released in 1995 and became the biggest-selling country album of all time by a female musician. She followed that with Come On Over, released in 1997, which became the biggest selling album of all time by a female solo artist in any genre. Shania Twain plays the Legends slot at this year's Glastonbury festival. Nick heralds Shania's arrival with a bottle of Pommery Champagne NV Brut Rosé Royal while Angela prepares two of Shania's favourite dishes, courgette fritti with truffle and artichoke mayo and a delicious aubergine parmigiana. The experts at Waitrose pair this meal with an Italian red, Araldica Barbera D'Asti Superiore. Shania loves London and tells Nick and Ange she likes to ride horses incognito in Hyde Park. She also loves to cook and asks plenty of questions about her meal; listen out for some excellent tips from Angela. Our trio talk wellies at Glastonbury, the secret to Switzerland's culinary culture and why Shania simply couldn't make an album with Prince. Just so you know, our podcast might contain the occasional mild swear word or adult theme.
Shania Twain is a singer and songwriter from Ontario, Canada. She's the only female artist to have had three consecutive Diamond albums — albums that have sold over ten million copies. Actually, her 1997 album Come On Over is the best-selling album by a female solo artist of all time. One of the most iconic songs from that iconic album is "You're Still the One." It was co-written and produced by Mutt Lange, who had previously produced some other classic albums, like Back in Black by AC/DC and Pyromania by Def Leppard. He had also produced Shania Twain's previous album, The Woman in Me. For this episode, Shania told me the story of writing “You're Still the One.” She told me about what the song meant to her when she was making it, over 25 years ago, and what it means to her now.For more, visit songexploder.net/shania-twain.

The "Queen of Country Pop," Shania Twain talked with Behind the Setlist about preparing for her upcoming tour, her latest album (Queen of Me, released Feb. 3 by Republic Records), how performing other artists' songs early in her career helped make her the entertainer she is today and how she overcame adversity to become one of the biggest country stars. Twain's trio of albums from 1995 to 2002 rewrote the rulebook on what country music looked and sounded like. The Woman in Me from 1995 (featuring "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" and "Any Man of Mine") has sold more than 20 million units worldwide. Come On Over from 1997 produced 12 singles (including "You're Still the One" and "That Don't Impress Me Much") and has sold more than 40 million units worldwide. Up! from 2002 spent 5 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and spent a total of 93 weeks on the chart. Twain's tour supporting Queen of Me begins April 28 in Seattle, WA and runs across North America through July, heads to the U.K. and Ireland in September and returns to the North America in October and November. Shania Twain - Queen of Me It's hard to overstate just how huge Shania Twain was in the late '90s. The Canadian country singer was everywhere thanks to the success of her 1995 album The Woman in Me and two years later, its chart-busting successor Come On Over (still the best-selling country album of all time). Twain's voice returned lower and raspier after her surgeries, but musically, she's back to her poppy, peppy self on her new LP, opening with the boot-scooting party-starter Giddy Up! and maintaining an upbeat vibe throughout — even on the tracks with teeth. Thanksgiving will have an even MORE SPECIAL meaning for me this year! My PSA blood work prostate cancer results are in and my levels dropped yet again to 0.3. Three and a half years with no growth of the demon inside that tried to kill me! If you are researching as to what to do for your cancer, I would recommend you research PROTON BEAM THERAPY. My urologist did not bring it up to me. As I was being my own advocate I was looking into other options when a radiation oncologist I went to asked me if I had considered it. She was the first one to ever talk to me about it. I contacted both the Santa Monica center and the center in Jacksonville. Both overnighted me the materials. I was chosen for a study group to do twice the time on the table under the proton beam for half the stay time. IT WORKED FOR ME. I also know it works for many other cancers. DO NOT WAIT FOR YOUR DOCTOR TO TELL YOU OR ASK YOU ABOUT IT! If you have a cancer you are worried about, contact the centers I mentioned above and ask questions! YOU gotta take care of YOU! Known by fans around the world and Aaron's mom as “The Sandwich King”, Jeff Mauro is an Emmy-nominated celebrity chef who became known for destroying the competition with his consistently amazing sandwiches. Mit ihrem dritten Studioalbum "Come On Over" schreibt Shania Twain Geschichte. __________ Über diese Songs vom Album “Come On Over” wird im Podcast gesprochen 09:33 Mins – “Rock This Country” 16:36 Mins – “You're Still The One” 19:34 Mins – “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” 31:39 Mins – “That Don't Impress Me Much” 41:50 Mins – “Come On Over” __________ Über diese Songs wird außerdem im Podcast gesprochen 22:41 Mins – “Spirit In The Sky” von Norman Greenbaum 28:03 Mins – “Addicted to Love” von Robert Palmer __________ Shownotes: Review zu “Come On Over” bei Allmusic: https://www.allmusic.com/album/come-on-over-mw0000029634 Albumreview im Rolling Stone: http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/shaniatwain/albums/album/124004/review/6067853/come_on_over Youtube-Kanal von Shania Twain: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCadSacAVwG-QH6tWzjrmjxA Artikel im Stern über Shania Twain und ihr Leben: https://www.stern.de/lifestyle/leute/shania-twain-tiefpunkt--ihr-mann-betrog-sie-mit-der-besten-freundin-32584022.html Dokumentation über Shania Twain bei Netflix: https://www.netflix.com/de/title/81562530__________ Ihr wollt mehr Podcasts wie diesen? Boasting arguably the most famous midriff of the 1990s, Shania Twain rose out of Canada (and poverty) and reinvented country music and even the notion of what constitutes a female superstar. And she did it on her (and her producer-husband's) terms. Her 1997 album, "Come On Over," was a country and crossover tour de force, boasting eight singles including "Still the One," "From This Moment On," "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" and "That Don't Impress Me Much." In doing so, Twain dominated a male-dominated industry, empowered a new generation of female country stars, and became the biggest-selling female solo artist of all time. Not bad for a girl from rural Ontario.

This week on the podcast, Jackie, Jonny, and Ty discuss Shania Twain's MONUMENTAL, ICONIC 1997 hit country/pop/rock album, Come On Over. Our most decorated album on the pod so far by a landslide. My god, this is a good one. Best selling country album of all time, best selling album by a Canadian of all time, best selling album by a female artist of all time, 40 million copies sold worldwide, 12 out of the 16 tracks were singles... We could go on, but suffice to say this album kicks serious ass. Anyone who grew up in the '90s/early 200s surely remembers the majority of these songs, and rest assured they still slap. Shania is an icon and an inspiration, we also recommend everyone check out her new documentary on Netflix, "Not Just A Girl". Of course, there is also some preamble at the beginning about a man who claimed Bigfoot forced him to kill his noodling partner while they were out catching catfish. Another example of irresponsible citizens of Oklahoma dragging the noble Sasquatch's name through the mud. This is a music podcast, sorta. Executive Editor of Dwell, Kate Dries, joins DJ Louie to talk the Queen of Country Pop, Shania Twain. First, Kate lays out some of the scant historical examples of country icons who have managed to crossover into mainstream pop stardom like Dolly Parton and explains a bit about why Nashville has been a hermetically-sealed ecosystem, resistant to change, outsiders and country artists who have ambitions beyond its traditional scope. Next, Louie and Kate discuss Shania's upbringing in Canada, surviving abject poverty, a household rife with domestic abuse, and the untimely death of both of her parents by writing, singing and performing in local bars beginning when she was just 8 years-old. They then move on to Shania's discovery performing at a resort in Canada which lead to her record deal Mercury Nashville, her flop first album, 1993's Shania Twain, her chance meeting with rock super-producer Robert "Mutt" Lange who quickly became her partner in both music and life through her massive run of success from the mid '90s-early '00s, and the genre-busting sound the pair developed on her blockbuster sophomore release, 1995's The Woman in Me. Louie and Kate also dive into Shania's third record, 1997's legendary Come On Over, which stands to this day as one of the biggest selling albums in history and provided the platform for Shania to make the leap from country legend to mainstream pop icon, parse apart how smashes like "You're Still the One", "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" displayed Shania's unique combo of girl-next-door approachability, '90s middle-finger-up feminist attitudes and an infectious sense of carefree joy and fun, how her flair for presenting herself visually and sartorially in music videos was both integral to her crossover and forever seared her into pop cultural memory, her globe-trotting fourth album, 2002's Up!, the dissolution of her marriage to Mutt and her subsequent loss of her ability to sing, her comeback Vegas residency and her 5th album, 2017's Now, and her legacy and impact on the pop landscape to this day. Finally, Louie and Kate rank Shania Twain in the official Pop Pantheon. This week, we're excited to welcome Jeff Mauro to Salt + Spine, the podcast on stories behind cookbooks.A Chicago native, Jeff has been beaming into your home TVs via Food Network since 2011, when he was crowned the winner of season seven of "Food Network Star" (and then, later that year, under another crown as the host of "Sandwich King.") And then more shows followed: Food Network’s "The Kitchen," which he’s co-hosted since 2014, and most recently his new show, "Kitchen Crash".A born performer who grew up in a big family, Jeff’s always had a knack for entertaining — both the putting-on-a-show definition and the having-people-over-to-eat definition. That’s translated well into his career and, now, into his first cookbook. It’s titled Come On Over: 111 Fantastic Recipes for the Family That Cooks, Eats, and Laughs Together. And it’s loaded with recipes from Jeff’s childhood — from Chicago classics to smoking & grilling favorites to, of course, sandwiches, to two “boil” recipes.START COOKING TODAY: Bookshop | IndieBoundJeff joined us remotely in the Salt + Spine Virtual Studio for today’s show—and of course, we’re closing with a culinary game (hint: comedy-themed!)
