The second edition of this vital series features world-renowned talents such as Benjamin Fröhlich, Venice Arms aka Curses, Massimiliano Pagliara, Zombies in Miami, label founder Jorkes, and many more. Queer Base is a charity in Vienna that offers social and legal counselling to LGBTQI+ refugees who arrive in Austria, including providing help with court cases, finding housing, community events, organising German lessons, HIV/STI testing, and more. Further details can be found at https://queerbase.at/. This tastefully curated selection traverses the electronic spectrum in style. Polygonia opens with supple and trippy minimal on 'Cheeky Seduction' and things build through dubby, stripped-back analogue grooves from HCL, typically bright, jacked-up, and synth-heavy sounds from Massimiliano Pagliara on 'Distant Memory' and retro-future disco-house from Benjamin Fröhlich. CYRK's 'Fade 2 Gay' is a slow-motion and moody dark disco chugger before Gunce Aci picks it up with some skyward arps and slap-funk drums on 'Whatever It Takes.' Elsewhere Zombie Affair, aka Zombies in Miami & Mystery Affair, offer the body-popping electro-disco of 'Girl, You Got Me', Panooc's 'Pellucid' is a throwback and sensual vocal house cut and Lydia Eisenblätter brings all out piano house joy to 'What Is Love' before the closer from Mala Ika is another celebratory cut full of hands in the air synths and joyous drums. This compilation is not only an essential listen but also an essential project that highlights and supports the vital work undertaken by Queer Base. The artwork was created by label creative powerhouse Daniel Rajcsanyi, and the LP was mastered by Blackheadstudios.

It makes the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums list at #416.Physicist, author, blogger and NYC-native Ethan Siegel brings some hip hop credibility to the podcast this episode, helping counteract the rural(ish) roots of Eamon, Sonya and Nathan. Known as "hip hop's first legitimate band," did the music, lyrics and vocals hold up under the toughest of scrutiny? Is this truly one of the greatest albums of all time? Last weekend Adam Levine was performing with his band Maroon 5 when a woman jumps on stage and grabs him mid set. He reacted by shrugging it off, making a eww face, and continued singing. Then cancel culture jumped in, and now he's been forced to apologize in light of people making him seem like he's "above his fans." Back in my Northern Soul bag celebrating GWP Records... GWP were the initials of Gerard W Purcell, an artist/manager who had great success with country musician Eddy Arnold and trumpeter Al Hirt. He also worked with Lena Horne, the poet Maya Angelou and Dizzy Gillespie among many others. In the mid-60s he expanded the recording side of his business with Gale Garnett and several R&B acts, notably Benny Gordon and Kenny Carter. For the Benny Gordon releases he used veteran producer Teacho Wiltshire, but by the time of the Kenny Carter recordings he had brought in Larry Banks to produce and provide great songs. Other acts that fell under Larry Banks’ auspices were the Geminis, the Exciters, and his life partner Joan Bates, aka Jaibi. Originally married to R&B singer Bessie Banks, with whom he made the deep soul classic ‘Go Now’, Larry fell in love with Joan Bates, a singer with the Pleasures group, and they set up as a couple. He then cut another deep soul masterpiece, ‘You Got Me’ by Jaibi, this time for GWP Productions, who placed the record with the Kapp label. Still pursuing his own singing career (he originally sang with the vocal group the Four Fellows in 1955), he cut ‘I’m Not The One’, another GWP/Kapp deal. GWP’s big hopes for the R&B market lay with the emotive vocals of Kenny Carter, who released three singles on RCA in 1966. Our excavation of the tape vault revealed another 10 sides, mainly big-voiced ballads, including some standards intended for an LP. Some sort of fall out between him, GWP and RCA led to the project being shelved; a real pity as the material is superb. Success came GWP’s way when Cleveland vocal group the Hesitations came under Jerry Purcell’s management once Kapp decided to move the act away from the Detroit-based Pied Piper production team to GWP and Larry Banks. GWP had been responsible for bringing Pied Piper to RCA with singles from Lorraine Chandler, Sharon Scott, Nancy Wilcox, the Cavaliers, the Dynamics, and the Metros, who managed an R&B hit and issued a full LP. However, GWP switched the Hesitations’ style from happening black music to sophisticated ballads and had immediate success with a soulful revival of ‘Born Free’, which became a major hit and led to two albums aimed at mature black and white markets. When sales eventually dwindled, the Hesitations were released from their Kapp deal, which led to Jerry Purcell forming his own GWP label in 1969. Larry Banks having moved on, the new production team included acclaimed arranger Ed Bland, who was given young songwriters Ray Dahrouge and Billy Terrell to work with, along with superb vocalist Debbie Taylor and the Persians. The Persians arrived with New Jersey producer George Kerr, whose team was used on other GWP releases and productions, including Alice Clark’s monster Northern number ‘You Hit Me (Right Where It Hurt Me)’. Ed Bland signed up very cool jazz outfit the Pazant Brothers and recruited funky females Betty Barney and Little Rose Little. There was immediate success when the first release, Debbie Taylor’s ‘Never Gonna Let Him Know’, became an R&B hit but, despite top quality soul records and a new subsidiary called GWP’s Grapevine, the label failed to score another hit and lost its way releasing oddball pop records and a series of orchestral LPs inspired by the signs of the zodiac. Jerry Purcell later reverted to artist management. This isn’t going to be your typical Christmas post. You may have seen videos about today’s topic, you may have experienced this yourself and watched it happen. You may have even thought this yourself. Picture this, it's Christmas morning, you can tell without going outside, it’s cold, there are still hot coals in the fireplace, you stoke it a couple of times and it comes back to life again, you begin to feel its warmth, the Tree is lit and coffee is brewing. The time is finally here, to sit around the tree and open presents. You are about to hear the distinct sound of wrapping paper being torn open. There is so much excitement in the room, the kids can’t keep still. They are squirming and about to explode out of their skin. They tear open paper and boxes like they are trying to save someone’s life that’s stuck inside.. . . and then, their shoulders drop. They look up slowly, ...“You got me, What?”… You're listening to Living the Freedom Life. Ep 76 Our title today, First off, Merry Christmas everyone. Our title today is “You Got Me, What?”

In the ninth episode, and finale of the podcast's first season, the format of the show is turned on its host; at the behest of a previous guest, Kevin finds someone willing to interview him about the music that has made an impact throughout his life. His charming wife Wendy willingly spoke with him, at length, about the idiotic amount of music he selected for the episode, as well as if the titular character from "ALF" needs to be 'Me Too'd', if you can swear on a podcast, and what it's like living with terribly fragile mental health. For more information about the AWARD WINNING music blog Anhedonic Headphones, click here! Episode 9 credits: The intro to the episode featured an instrumental version of "Labels," performed by GZA/Genius, taken from the 2012 Get On Down/Geffen/Universal Music Special Markets release Liquid Swords - The Chess Box (Instrumentals.) The song originally appears on the 1995 Geffen Records release Liquid Swords. The theme music is a YouTube rip of the intro to BET's "Rap City: The Bassment," airing from 1999 to 2005. In today's episode, we discussed: "I Wish it Would Rain Down," written and performed by Phil Collins, taken from the 1989 Atlantic Records release, ...But Seriously. "Stranger Than Fiction," written by Brett Gurewitz and performed by Bad Religion, taken from the 1994 Atlantic Records release, Stranger Than Fiction. "Let Down" written and performed by Radiohead, taken from the 1997 Parlophone/Capitol Records release, OK Computer. "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)," written and performed by Deftones, taken from the 1997 Maverick Records release, Around The Fur. "You Got Me," written by The Roots and Jill Scott, performed by The Roots, Eve, and Erykah Badu, taken from the 1999 MCA Records release, Things Fall Apart. "The Day Brings," written and performed by Brad, taken from the 1997 Epic Records release, Interiors. "I Didn't Understand," written and performed by Elliott Smith; original studio version taken from the 1998 Dreamworks Records release XO; this version is from the Dutch Television Program "2 Meter Sessions." "Pink Rabbits," written and performed by The National, taken from the 2013 4AD release Trouble Will Find Me. "Blue Chicago Moon," written by Jason Molina and performed by Songs: Ohia, taken from the 2002 Secretly Canadian release, Didn't it Rain? "Still Space," written and performed by Satoshi Ashikawa, taken from the 2019 Light in The Attic boxed set, Kankyō Ongaku: Japanese Ambient, Environmental & New Age Music 1980-1990. Please note the music played on the Anhedonic Headphones is used with the intent for discussion and promotional purposes only. Please do not sue me because someone wanted to talk about your song on the show. Thank you for understanding.

Although different industries run the city now, and different groups of people live in this neighborhood; as I approach my destination – which is across the street from a concrete mixing facility and the Chicago Tribune newspaper printing warehouse – I am reminded that old Chicago is still here…at least for now.The first sign that I was in for a quality experience appeared in the middle of Chicago Avenue, in the crosswalk that led to my destination. There were two millennial-aged people serving as crossing guards, equipped with hand-held stop signs and pausing the traffic for the streams of people walking towards a building set back from the street.I was warmly greeted by two more young people as I walked through the front door. The best way to describe my immediate impression is that it felt like I walked into a really dope underground silent party, film screening, or art show. This is a young and diverse crowd. The tables in the middle of the lobby remind me of the first week of college, where the campus is full of organizations promoting their work.It is 9:30am on a cool November weekend morning, and there are 350-400 people packed into this intimate theater-like venue, and they are mostly younger. College students, 20 and 30-somethings…and they are very much present, engaged, and enthusiastic. This was an inclusive atmosphere with the cool aesthetic of an exclusive setting. As the event began, the 12-person band on the stage began to perform a song with the chorus, “You Got Me.” As they sang, stage lights beamed concert like rays of light across the audience, and seven high-definition projection screens displayed the song lyrics overlaid on video clips of nature scenes and abstract light animations.I looked around and thought about the capital and resources that must have gone into this space. It was so clearly and intentionally created for the audience assembled here. Faith communities are often portrayed in popular media as people operating in physical spaces created by earlier generations. Yet this space was clearly designed by and for this current generation. The journey continues in River West, at the corner of Chicago Avenue and Green.Intro Theme Music: Victory Lap by QSTN ft. This mix is a bit darker than the last two but still has some good energy. I threw in two of my classic mashups - "Alert Against the Music" from 2003 and the 2005 version of "Woo!" that I originally mashed up in 2004. I called it "Woo!" because the word "woo" is prominently featured if you listen carefully. Keeping with tradition, the rest of the set is comprised of songs that are also 10 years or older. 1. It's been 4 years since the MUSIC AND WINE thought was transformed into what it is today. At that time, we envisioned an evening of modern lounging soundtracked by a mix of jazz, soul and R&B, and paired with wines and designer cocktails of our selection. Aside from it being the most fun thing we've ever done, we noted repeated requests for the music featured at the weekly event held at the Mandarin Oriental in Manila.  Although we would email mixes we uploaded to various cloud-based services, the search continued for a more practical and efficient means to distribute this music to a wider audience.  Thus began the www.musicandwineradio.com podcast a year later. Here's a look at what that party series looked like at the time. Also later that year, we were asked to write a column in the Manila Standard Today about the city's nightlife and its music, a natural extension of this MUSIC AND WINE state of mind.  In 2010, a dream finally came true.  We got our own radio show on FM Radio.  And what a station it was! 106.7 Dream FM was broadcast nationally, making the audience in the millions, particularly in a country that still listens to the radio in considerable numbers.  It was a 3-hour show at an excellent time-slot every Saturday night from 9pm to midnight, the hour the city of Manila comes out to lounge, dance, and celebrate another week gone by. It's also incidentally when our weekly event was held at Martinis Bar. To get material for a weekly 3-hour show, we had to feature music other than our own, and guests were invited to share their music--DJs and artists we looked up to with respect and followed for inspiration.  These mixes found their way onto the podcast, a critical event that would change the concept of MUSIC AND WINE Radio to one of a true radio program, with variety and plenty of excellent content. Since the radio station has recently changed format and has ceased to be "Manila's Jazz Authority", the MUSIC AND WINE program's focus has returned to its online channel, which has managed to grow exponentially.  We're not even sure of the reasons for the podcast's surprising growth, but we've definitely noticed it is being passed around and recommended by friends internationally, and reaching markets we've never dreamed we'd be in. We're now up to a two-terabytes-per-month bandwidth requirement. So here is the set that started it all, an eclectic sophisticated downtempo mix sure to induce the urge to order a cocktail. It is this mix that was presented to the Mandarin Oriental's senior management as we pitched the MUSIC AND WINE idea.  For the bottom of our hearts, thanks to all of you for joining us on the journey and we look forward to bringing you more great music in the years to come! Connections... I thought of this set on CX104 going to China .. Up there above he clouds, I was reflecting on the many connections I've recently made with my music.. Through this site, through Facebook, through Souncloud.. Connections that thankfully transcend House Music, yet which House made possible. Here is to Connections, to friendships, to shared ideals, shared dreams & utopia, shared loves and hopes, shared strengths and weaknesses.. And Here is to Humanity, a purely magical word, which would lose its seminal meaning without Connections.. Be ready for some well connected Sexy grooves with a few club current club bangers dropped in to get you going for Summer '012.. Spare a thought for the Cathay crew on the plane, who got the disapproving glances when they wanted to..just do their jobs and to whom my eyes must have darted: " Buzz off ( or worse) I am IN THE MIX.. Can't you see!!"... Cover Art: a mathematical mapping of ALL the FB connections in the world in Dec 2010.. I am convinced that one could anticipate future conflicts just looking at the countries with the less connections.. Playlist: Intro 2009 Connection (WMC 09 Sampler).
