American farmers are facing a profitability crisis in the current markets. Some economists estimate that growers could LOSE $100 per acre this year if costs and prices continue as they are. NCGA is always looking for ways to boost corn demand and increase prices for America's crop. But with skyrocketing input costs, onerous duties on fertilizer, and the spiking cost of diesel fuel, our growers are feeling the pinch from both sides of the equation. So NCGA has convened a task force aimed at addressing those rising costs as well. And in this episode, we talk to NCGA First Vice President Matt Frostic, who's leading this effort to find savings for American corn farmers. He's joined by NCGA VP of Sustainable Production & Value Chain Engagement Sean Arians, NCGA's staff lead on the task force, as well as NCGA staff economist Gretchen Kuck, to explore the tools that NCGA has at its disposal in this time of extreme difficulty.  As always, NCGA's greatest strength is the voice of its members. Renee and Susan discuss the dismissal of the Leandro Case and where we go from here. We discuss the April 2nd court decision that saw Chief Justice Paul Newbie dismiss the 30-year-old Leandro case with prejudice. Renee pulls no punches as she breaks down the legal "reverse engineering" used to end this landmark case, which sought to ensure every North Carolina child receives a sound, basic education. From the "flimsy" arguments regarding subject matter jurisdiction to the dismissal's implications for generations of students, this episode serves as both a legal autopsy and a call to arms. But the episode doesn't stop at the "primal scream." Susan provides a roadmap for hope, reminding us that while a court case may be dismissed, the North Carolina Constitution remains alive and well. Key Highlights: The "Newbie" Decision: Why dismissing the case "with prejudice" is a grave injustice that attempts to silence constitutional claims forever. The Racism of Rhetoric: A look at the historical context of the NC Constitution and how the recent opinion "sneers" at its post-Civil War origins. The Principles of Leandro: Why the focus on adequate, equitable, and accountable funding is more relevant now than ever. The Rise of "Little Leandros": Susan's predictions on the future of educational advocacy, from rural districts to students with disabilities. Call to Action: Concrete steps you can take right now, including upcoming rallies at the General Assembly and the May 1st Teacher March. Important Dates for Advocates: April 21st: Join education advocates at the North Carolina General Assembly for a day of legislative meetings and action. May 1st: The "All Out" Teacher March – let's make Raleigh a sea of red once again. November 2026: Every seat in the legislature is up for grabs. Make Leandro your litmus test at the ballot box. American corn farmers are celebrating a historic achievement in the fields, even as they face a sobering reality at the bank. The National Corn Growers Association tells Mid-West Farm Report that the U.S. has produced a record-shattering 17.02 billion bushel corn crop, driven by an unprecedented yield of 186.5 bushels per acre. Despite this feat, the agricultural sector is grappling with a fourth consecutive year of negative returns. The surge in supply, while matched by record demand, has failed to lift market prices high enough to offset near-record input costs. "We've done the supply side work and that demand needs to be able to meet the moment," says Gretchen Kuck, an economist with the NCGA. "We have this corn, it’s really competitively priced and we have plenty of it, and we need demand solutions to make that demand and those market opportunities match the achievement that our farmers have come up with."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Is North Carolina still governed by the people or only by permission? In this #GoRight with Peter Boykin monologue, I break down a question that should bother every voter in our Constitutional Republic: are North Carolinians still the source of political power, or are we being treated like a variable to be managed?Read more:https://gorightnews.com/are-north-carolina-voters-losing-power-while-parties-consolidate-control/Watch and Listen:https://rumble.com/v74oyoa-is-north-carolina-still-governed-by-the-people-or-only-by-permission.htmlhttps://youtu.be/u4E7-hE9wdkhttps://www.spreaker.com/episode/is-north-carolina-still-governed-by-the-people-or-only-by-permission--69546074This episode dives into the quiet consolidation happening across North Carolina politics, where party machines, legal maneuvering, and institutional gatekeeping are reshaping the process without voters ever being asked. When campaigns get access to voter tools only if they follow leadership, when maps protect politicians instead of representation, when courts step back, and oversight retreats, the final safeguard becomes the voter. But what happens when the voter is treated like a liability?Topics covered in this podcast include:Voter roll shifts and party switchingParty control over voter turnout tools and campaign infrastructureGerrymandering concerns and power preservation politicsCourts retreating and redistricting battlesJudicial restraint and why voters want constitutional rulings, not partisan outcomes.Executive offices are being weakened into symbolic shellsTightening protest laws and the tension between order and free speechFederal culture war rulings are overriding local debate and consentGoing Right does not mean defending a party, no matter what. 2025 was some kind of year for America's corn growers. A record crop was overshadowed by market concerns and uncertainty, and it seems like the roller coaster ride will continue into 2026. But through it all, NCGA's volunteers and staff have been grinding it out on behalf of members, advancing a policy agenda to boost demand for America's crop and protect growers' ability to do their jobs. In this holiday message, NCGA President Jed Bower shares his thoughts on a couple of NCGA's big wins from 2025, like opening new avenues for trade, reversing Mexico's GMO corn ban, protecting access to crop protection tools, and advancing farm tax policy wins in Congress. And, we take a look ahead to the big priorities for 2026, including a nationwide, year-round E15 bill. Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a happy new year from all of us here at NCGA.

For more than 50 years, the Environmental Species Act has regulated the way that farmers can use certain crop tools, like pesticides, herbicides and fungicides. But American farmers are experiencing the most significant change in ESA policy yet, as the judicial system compels the Environmental Protection Agency to adapt its policies and comply more precisely with the law as it's written. So in this episode, we're learning about how NCGA remains active in the public input process for this policy change, ensuring that growers do not lose access to the tools that help them feed and fuel the world. We'll speak with Dr. Becky Langer, NCGA's Director of Inputs and Innovation, about how the process is playing out, how NCGA has partnered with the EPA, and what the impact will be when it's all said and done.
