Ubisoft announces their new game XDefiant, a 6 vs 6 multiplayer shooter with factions from various Tom Clancy games. Nintendo actually acknowledges rumors only to shoot them down. Could they be serious about no other Switch models? Yeah... about that. Also, the Steam Deck is seriously a thing and it has gotten everyone riled up about everything from emulation to portable PCs to even being a "Switch Killer." Don't really think that the last one is going to happen, but preorders did drop for it and a few of the SKU's have already been delayed. Speaking of delays, there have been a few of those. But there's also been the announcement of Company of Heroes 3, the purchase of Sumo by Tencent, possible proof that the Metroid Prime Trilogy is ready for Switch, Netflix getting into gaming, the NPD numbers for June 2021, and much more. Also, Marc Morrison finally beat Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne and It Takes Two. He got to play some Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart as well and he talks about why it didn't quite jive with him. Sean Garmer had a week off from games pretty much, as he's been trying to knock out some written reviews. Nocturne HD Remaster has just released in Japan and while the rest of us have to wait until Spring 2021 to play it I decided to invite Nyarly onto this week's show to talk initial impressions since he imported the Switch version. I ask him a mixture of my own questions and yours about this new remaster so we can see if this remaster offers up enough to justify being bought again 17+ years later. We head all the way back to the last flagship Sonic game released on a dedicated Sega console with the divisive Sonic Adventure 2. Em regales us with the tales of discovering Sonic ten years later than everyone else, and Jackson talks about how this fits into their conception of Sonic as something only discovered recently. Also, we needle drop four of the best songs of one of the greatest soundtracks ever made. The game itself? The summer heat has kicked in, but that just means more time to stay in the air conditioning and play some great RPGs. Stephen comes armed after a harrowing experience with the Japanese beta of Phantasy Star Online 2 (keep in mind we didn't know about the US release when we recorded), while John brings the critters of Pokemon Conquest to destroy the armies of feudal Japan. Meanwhile, Rob's been playing some Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (way to stay current), and, of course, Zack brings the news, including the release announcement of Guild Wars 2.
