Do we need another controller for something? Well, yes, we do. Do I personally need this controller? No, absolutely not. I don't need the Steam controller but I can totally see myself owning one at some point in the future. And I do like the idea of it and what it's trying to do. I was there for the first one and rarely ever used it – either because of its functionality or the tech for streaming games to a bigger tv from a different room just wasn't there yet. But given my time with the SteamDeck and how it controls, I'm pretty optimistic for what this new controller can do. That and reading the reviews of it. Plus, playing the SteamDeck docked as it displays on a larger screen works out just fine given how the Switch works. Not to mention, by the time I ever get around to owning one of these things plenty of other people will have had lots of time with it to get a better idea of how well it works. So yeah, that's my thought on the Steam Controller. I won't be there on day one but I will be there one day. And one day, I might be playing Splinter Cell. Ubisoft, it's been 4,640 days since a new Splinter Cell game (non-animated series or guest spot in another game franchise, remake, BBC radio drama, or VR exclusive) was released. Also, there's been 3,298 job losses in the gaming industry since January 1, 2026.

Brian #3: typing_extensions Kind of a followup on the deprecation warning topic we were talking about in December. prioinv on Mastodon notified us that the project typing-extensions includes it as part of the backport set. The warnings.deprecated decorator is new to Python 3.13, but with typing-extensions, you can use it in previous versions. But typing_extesions is way cooler than just that. The module serves 2 purposes: Enable use of new type system features on older Python versions. Enable experimentation with type system features proposed in new PEPs before they are accepted and added to the typing module. So cool. There's a lot of features here. I'm hoping it allows someone to use the latest typing syntax across multiple Python versions. I'm “tentatively” excited. But I'm bracing for someone to tell me why it's not a silver bullet. Xbox is working on a handheld gaming console! And knowing Microsoft's naming standard, will probably call it "Copilot for Your Hands"!   In what is the worst kept secret of the gaming space, we now know that Xbox is partnering with Asus on a gaming handheld to take on the Switch. Will it be any good? Will it still run Windows? All this remains to be seen, but with Steam entering the operating system space, we can see Microsoft starting to sweat a little. Will you pick one up? Or will you continue to use your trusty SteamDeck?   Halo Infinite was about to get the Destiny treatment - 10 years of evolving and growing. But we can all see where that ended up. The utter mismanagement of 343 Industries caused a massive shake up, even to the point where the entire studio was renamed, and Halo was shifted to the Unreal 5 engine. One day, there will be thesis's written about the incredible fumble that was 343i and Halo Infinite.    Diablo IV is about to get harder. A lot harder! People were speed running season 7 way too easily apparently. So now we're all being punished in season 8.
