In a moment of frustration, David Idol created his first successful Chrome extension, Computer Mouse for XCloud. In just a few short months, he was making $4,000 per month in revenue and he eventually sold his project for 5-figures. Here's how it happened. David was working at Microsoft for Xbox Live when they launched XCloud, their cloud gaming application. It let players stream games from other devices like computers or phones.  But David noticed a problem. Gamers weren't able to play games on their PCs without special controllers. He coded a Chrome extension letting gamers use their keyboards for games on the PC. He posted about it on Reddit and almost overnight acquired thousands of users. After three months, David added a one-time payment to access his product and reached $4,000 in monthly revenue and over 250,000 users. People around the world wrote him emails and reviews thanking him for the extension. He'd even made it easier for disabled people to enjoy Xbox games. But though Computer Mouse for XCloud was exploding in popularity, David didn't feel he had time to keep adding features. He listed it on Acquire.com and eventually sold it to a promising buyer. The latest Xbox news that came out of a massive Xbox leak of emails and documents that they leaked themselves in a mistake in the FTC Xbox hearing, In one of the documents Phil Spencer indicates that if Xbox Game Pass doesn't expand enough by 2027, Xbox will leave the business. Yesterday we discussed the Xbox Series X vs S and the next Xbox next gen console coming in 2028. These Xbox leaks are huge because they show the Microsoft hardware strategy along with a new Xbox controller and how they will leverage xCloud for their future in gaming. Can they add enough Xbox Game Pass games in the future to sustain the business model? I don't think so. Game Pass is a subscription service offered by Microsoft as part of Xbox network. A recent report makes it sound like PlayStation is winning in cloud gaming. Much of the Xbox vs PlayStation comparisons recently have focused on xCloud and Xbox Game Pass giving Microsoft and advantage over Sony. But PlayStation cloud gaming may have just leapfrogged over Xbox cloud gaming. The PS5 vs Xbox Series X comparisons are a tight race, but with the Xbox Series S causing issues with games and features many have suggested using the cloud to solve these problems. But a recent article from Jez Corden at Windows Central points to problems that Xbox cloud gaming is facing and big jumps for PlayStation cloud gaming. Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming also has alleged details about PlayStation Cronus now called Cronos. And with impending PlayStation Q Lite release date, it could be the first step in more commercial acceptance. Xbox Cloud Gaming is Microsoft's Xbox cloud gaming service. Initially released in beta testing in November 2019, the service later launched for subscribers of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on September 15, 2020. Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming is provided to subscribers of Ultimate at no additional cost.
