PlayStation Network has once again been targeted by nefarious actors, this time exposing flaws in Sony's online infrastructure that we never even considered. If you've noticed weird games popping-up in your recently played list, titles that don't belong in your library, cluttered PSN widgets, and other oddities, you were affected. And while Sony seems to have begun to mend the issue, it feels like they're unable to accept their solemn corporate obligation to protect their customers. Will they ever even publicly admit their problems, nonetheless solve all of them? We discuss. Plus: Other news! Grand Theft Auto VI's pre-orders are imminent, rumors are circulating about a potential delay of PlayStation 6, Housemarque talks about its post-Saros future, Halo: Campaign Evolved's Trophies have been surreally revealed, Mark Hamill is set to appear in Twisted Metal's third season on Peacock, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Is PlayStation at risk of losing its hard-earned prestige? Why aren't more at-risk studios sold instead of shuttered? Should Capcom get more credit for their runaway success with RE Engine? Will Dustin ever return to the show, or will Sacred forever move forward as a duo? Xbox can't help itself; it finds rakes out of nowhere to step on, and its all self-inflicted. There won't be any trips in the Tardis anytime soon, and who is to blame? George Miller wants to sell Mad Max, but why? And Fox buys Roku, which feels oddly familiar.

The most wonderful and/or tedious time of the year has come once more: It's Not-E3 2026, when all of the video game giants share their biggest announcements for the year. As always, we're here to recap it, with thoughts on Sony's State of Play, the Summer Game Fest, and the Xbox Showcase, across which we saw the unveiling of God of War Laufey, the sooner-than-expected Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the long-awaited reveal of Persona 6 and more gameplay of Persona 4 Revival, and much more, including Xbox's completely incoherent exclusivity ‘strategy.' We also find some time to quickly review Saros, the new PS5 exclusive from Housemarque, and talk about 007 First Light from Hitman developers IO Interactive. A very silly Monthly Ten rounds out the episode, in which Jonathan pitches 10 Star Wars projects for Disney to announce and then quickly abandon. Enjoy! Trent Kusters chats with Gregory Louden, Creative Director behind Housemarque's latest dark sci-fi bullet-ballet, Saros. Together they discuss his early work in film with directors such as Alfonso Cuarón and Ridley Scott; transitioning into games and his path from VFX, to narrative, and ultimately direction; creating a spiritual successor to Returnal while developing a brand new IP; focusing on challenging but rewarding gameplay; and building a narrative around the roguelike gameplay. Bonus Episode #69 of BGMania: A Video Game Music Podcast. Today on the show, Bryan reviews Saros, the latest PlayStation 5 exclusive now available from Housemarque, the Finnish studio behind Returnal. Set on the hostile, shape-shifting planet Carcosa under an ominous and ever-present eclipse, the game follows Arjun Devraj, a Soltari Enforcer sent to investigate a lost off-world colony who arrives with his own deeply personal reasons for being there. This Musical Review covers the fast-paced combat loop and roguelite progression systems built around Carcosa's eclipse cycles, the game's striking environmental design and cinematic presentation, the multi-phase Overlord boss encounters that rank among the best the genre has to offer, and an honest look at the story's ambitious but uneven narrative and the emotional distance created by its complicated lead character. The episode also dedicates a full segment to the original score, how the dark, atmospheric, and cinematically driven music supports the tension and isolation of Carcosa at every turn, and what it contributes to moments where the writing alone doesn't quite carry the weight. Email the show at bgmaniapodcast@gmail.com with requests for upcoming episodes, questions, feedback, comments, concerns, or any other thoughts you'd like to share! Rein on üle mitme saate taas tagasi ja jagab muljeid Soomlaste Housemarque'i Sarosest. On see vääriline järg Returnalile, või jääb midagi ikka puudu? See on seotud ka mitme teise teemaga meie saates, näiteks tegi üks Housemarque'i endistest juhtidest uue mängustuudio ja ühe teise endise töötaja soolomäng sai Switchil lõpuks edukaks. Räägime ka, millal on sellesuvine Summer Games Fest ja millal Sony oma tulevaid asju näitab. Ning, et PSNi tellimus läheb ka taas kallimaks. Lisaks Sarosele on Rein mänginud ka The Long Darki kauavalminud üksikmängu Wintermute. Rainer jätkab Muumide maailmas ja proovis sooloarendaja kuulipõrgut Particulitix ja räägib veidi retromängudest. Soovituseks on Epicu poes Tomb Raider I-III uusversioonid tasuta, ning Steamis merepäevad ja Humble poes suur kevadale. The man with the one-word game. This week, we're delving back into Saros with a completed run to see just how strong Arjun gets on his way to conquering another wild Housemarque loop. Weapons, mechanics, and movement blend together in a frenzied ballet only they can truly provide. After that, it's onto Raccoon City in Leon's big Resident Evil Requiem section, including a discussion on what works and what doesn't. We've also got an early look at the beginning few areas of Motorslice, a surprising new indie game with a lot of charm. Check out the show on BlueSky @MarkersOnTheMap.
In this episode of The Inner Gamer, we pull back the curtain on the widening gap between stylistic hype and mechanical execution. We kick things off with a raw review of Mixtape, balancing its immaculate stop-motion aesthetic and killer soundtrack against a disappointing lack of player agency and core gameplay systems. We then shift our focus to the reality of live-service development sustainability through the lens of Embark Studios, discussing why their recent dev schedule slowdown is a necessary reality check for titles like The Finals and ARC Raiders. In the second half of the show, we tackle the macro-economics of the industry, tearing into the chaotic fallout of PlayStation's aggressive live-service pivot. We connect the dots between executive misalignment, a $765 million Bungie write-down, the quiet commercial stagnation of Housemarque's Saros, and the emergency roadmap shifts reshaping Marathon. Finally, we head into the occult streets of the Interzone, bringing on a 500-hour veteran to deconstruct the exact mechanical hooks and high-level meta shifts that make Valve's Deadlock such a dominant, rewarding competitive obsession. It's mid-May, which can mean only one thing: We're at the point in the calendar when most companies release their financials for the previous fiscal year. Sony is one such organization, reporting a relatively flat year-on-year picture both generally, and with PlayStation in particular. With PS5 sales slowing down all the while the console is becoming more expensive, and with recent Housemarque exclusive Saros seemingly selling softly, does Sony have an uphill battle to keep PlayStation relevant? Or will the inevitable PlayStation 6 -- not to mention PS5's likely-strong swan song next year -- be enough to keep the ever-distracted masses engaged with the ecosystem? We discuss. Plus: Sony's second and third party lead gives a candid interview, 007: First Light goes gold, a new externally-manufactured DualSense controller has hit the market, PlayStation Plus Game Catalog receives a refresh, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Why did so many people believe Game Informer was teasing a Grand Theft Auto VI cover? Do we think the rumors indicating that FromSoft is working on a pirate-themed game are true? Is Dragon Quest XII finally going to be properly revealed in a couple of weeks? What decade is it? Is it the 90s? The focus of this week is the indie game Mixtape, and in a rare double play both Nick and Jon have actually finished it and share their full review. In Nintendo news, a new Star Fox game has been announced, and the Nintendo Switch 2 joins the other consoles in getting its first price increase. Nick also reviews the 2026 film Mortal Kombat II and Saros as well, the next game from Housemarque. We wrap things up with an email about the over‑the‑shoulder perspective in video games and introduce a fun new segment that has us exploring our favorite retro titles and more. Thanks for listening! Saros is the continuation of decades of bullet-dodging action games from Housemarque. But it has most in common with the team's previous game, Returnal. Is this game welcoming enough to bring newcomers into the pseudo-series? We find out! Plus, a humongous collection of other stuff we're playing and watching, including a Korean reality TV series that pits different types of spirit mediums against one another! The BIG topic this week is Saros, the next PlayStation game from Housemarque. As HUGE fans of Returnal, we dive into our very early impressions. We also talk about a trailer from the director of last year's well‑received horror film Weapons, who's now taking on a video game adaptation — and it just happens to be Resident Evil. Speaking of Resident Evil, Jon has finally finished Resident Evil Requiem and shares his review. And to wrap things up, we read YOUR email about why Cyberpunk 2077 might just be… an okay video game. Apologies for the one-day delay, but Sean and Marc are here to discuss what's going on in the world of video games this week. PlayStation had one of their two major releases drop in Housemarque's Saros, and Sean's been playing it, and he has some thoughts. What does Sean think of the game, even though he didn't play their other title, Returnal? Should gamers who aren't fans of Roguelikes try it out? Is it a Game of the Year contender? Also, Sean has thoughts on some other games he's been playing this week, too, such as the newly released indies Motorslice, Wax Heads, and Dead as Disco, along with a game that released last week in Soul Quest as well. Marc played a lot of Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred Expansion and checked out Forbidden Solitaire. Plus, Asha Sharma does away with Copilot, Gamestop wants to buy Ebay, Sony gives an answer on the DRM check-in, and it's good news, there's an Atomfall TV Series in development, Forza Horizon 6 has gone gold, and more! It's always eclipse-y on Carcosa. This week, we're taking a big look at Housemarque's latest AAA rougelike game, Saros. In the followup to Returnal, Arjun Devraj fights his way through a hostile world where environments shift every time he goes out, and time works in mysterious ways. Weapons, modifiers, and a system of balance make each run unique as the secrets of Carcosa's eclipses are revealed. We've also got a look at Neverness to Everness, a game that's got a bunch of style, but an overwhelming amount of unfortunate mechanics. Then we have Bubsy 4D's demo, an update on GTA IV, and some more discussion on Marathon. Check out the show on BlueSky @MarkersOnTheMap.
Recently we got the biggest jump scare of our lives when we realised that we never followed up on our planned Resident Evil Requiem spoiler chat. Thankfully, a teaser trailer dropped this week for Zach Cregger's new Resident Evil film, which has given us a reason to revisit it! And while we're at it, we're spending more time chatting about the highly addictive Vampire Crawlers and Ben's got some early impressions of Housemarque's new bullet hell nightmare Saros!Get an exclusive 15% discount on Saily data plans! From fast-paced bullet-hell encounters to deep progression systems and weapon builds, the game constantly challenges your skill and decision-making.But while the gameplay loop is addictive and rewarding, does the story hold up? And how does SAROS truly compare to Returnal? In this episode, we break down:• Combat and gameplay mechanics• Roguelike progression and replayability• Weapons, builds, and player choice• Narrative strengths and weaknesses• Final verdict: Is SAROS worth your time?Whether you're a fan of roguelikes, shooters, or just looking for your next challenge, this is one you don't want to miss.Mahalo for listening
Hello one and all, and welcome back to another episode of Trophy Talk. On this month's episode Colin is joined by Kevin Garaventa and Will AKA Sqweezy from down under! After what has been a difficult week personally for both Colin and Will, the prospect of gathering around the proverbial hearth and talking about trophies and video games was a much needed reprieve, and one the boys were all too happy to take advantage of. We start off the episode by looking forward and backward at what recent episodes have hit the network, and what is to come. Kevin is very hot indeed on Metal Eden and by the time this episode releases, he will already be recording his thoughts on the game for May's PS Plus Game Club. Colin is also excited after a pretty mid experience with Tormented Souls to get to something more light hearted and fun in Luigi's Mansion 2 for May's Surviving the Horror, and Will is looking forward to his future streaming and YouTube videos on his own channel. After introductions the crew discusses their favorite trophies earned in the last month, what we've been playing, answers Patron write ins and also gives our customary Platinum Shout Outs. The bulk of our discussion here centers around what game we would erase from history if we could, and how we think Marathon is performing now that it's been in the wild for a few months time. If Steam charts are any indication, Marathon has roughly 1/3rd the daily active user base of Helldivers 2 which came out 2 years ago at this point. Is the small but hardcore community enough for the game to find continued success? Lastly the team gives some initial thoughts and a gut check on Saros, the newest console exclusive from Housemarque and a spiritual successor to Returnal. We hope you enjoy, and thank you for listening!

In today's Daily Fix:Nintendo has its hands full with movie adaptations, with the Legend of Zelda movie next year, and a third Super Mario movie coming down the warp pipe eventually. But Universal recently udpated their release schedule, and there's an unannounced Nintendo/Illumination animated movie scheduled for April of 2028. This might be Super Mario Bros. 3, but 2028 could be too soon, or this could be the Donkey Kong spinoff starring Seth Rogen. Let us know your theories in the comments. Plus there's new Resident Evil DLC dropping next month, and a glimpse into the mysterious story you'll discover in Housemarque's SAROS. Presented by SAROS. Rated T for Teen #ad

After another two‑week hiatus, we're back—even if our podcast schedule is inconsistent. We're not Xbox, but Asha Sharma is making headlines with two big swings: first, lowering the price of Game Pass by removing Call of Duty, and second, doubling down on the Xbox brand with a new vision for the division. We also dig into the return of Assassin's Creed Black Flag, the new Steam Controller, and the fact that we're on the cusp of Housemarque's next game. Finally, we wrap up with all the games we've been playing over the past two weeks. Thanks for listening! In today's Daily Fix:The Steam Machine is presumably just around the corner, and the Steam Controller is out, but what about the Steam Deck 2? IGN spoke with Valve about their upcoming hardware projects, and they gave us a small, but meaningful update on the successor to the succesful Steam Deck. In other news, Tom Taylorsen, who voiced Ryder in Mass Effect Andromeda, blames EA for the game's chilly reception. Andromeda was released in somewhat of an unfinished state, with a plethora of bugs, and fans of the series were not kind to the game at launch. And finally, we take a look at the mechanics you can expect in Housemarque's latest title - SAROS.Presented by SAROS. Rated T for Teen #AD

We're in the midst of a promising month of releases on PlayStation 5, and our patience is finally about to be rewarded. For starters, Housemarque's first party third-person shooter Saros has gone gold. So, too, has Capcom's beleaguered (yet incredibly promising) Pragmata, which was first revealed in 2020 for a 2022 release. Starfield's and Hades II's PS5 debuts, Mouse: PI For Hire's launch, the Konami-published Darwin's Paradox, the undoubtedly addictive Vampire Crawlers, and much more have us asking: When are we supposed to find the time to play all of this? It's a good problem to have! Plus: Sony purchases British machine learning firm Cinemersive Labs, Neil Druckmann teases the future of The Last of Us, Stellar Blade developer Shift Up buys Shinji Mikami's new studio outright, Disney executives are apparently interested in acquiring Epic, MindsEye's bizarre drama gets even weirder, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What's the status of Fairgames? Are there any Life Is Strange fans in the LSM crew? Should gaming be more accessible to the poor? Is it possible that the Artemis II astronauts will listen to this episode of the show while en route to the moon?
