Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris bring you the first 10 20 30 40 of the year, and it's, well, kind of underwhelming. There were a few massive games, to be sure, as well as some acknowledgements of platforms they (Kris) failed to cover last year, but all in all, January was kinda bland. But you should enjoy it anyway! At the top of the show, it was another week of not too many games being played, as Dan gets caught moving furniture in the rain, and Kris drinks way more water than he's used to. Dan did play a little PAD, both of the guys tried the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, and Kris finally puts Undertale behind him. Finally, in Week Old News, Ubisoft unsurprisingly continues to be awful, while the VGHF launches their brilliant digital archive, Atari fans perhaps think a little too highly of the VCS, and more. Xbox came, saw, and conquered the Tokyo Game Show this year! StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft II: Campaign Collection are set to join PC Game Pass in November, making a legendary return to the gaming forefront. And joining the RTS hype, Age of Mythology got some love too, in the form of a brand-new expansion!  Overwatch 2 fans rejoiced as the thrilling My Hero Academia collaboration brings new life and excitement to the game. Fallout 76 players can collect adorable new C.A.M.P. pets, adding a touch of charm to their post-apocalyptic adventures. And the excitement for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was palatable!    Not to be outdone, the legendary first six games in the Final Fantasy series have made their way into the world of Xbox (and Windows). Thats right, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters are here. The pixel remasters include universally updated 2D pixel graphics, a rearranged soundtrack and quality of life improvements. Updated gameplay includes modernized UI, auto-battle options, and supplementary extras such as a bestiary, illustration gallery and music player.   And if this is not enough for you, then catch up on all the news direct from Xbox themselves!   All this and more in this week's episode of The Regular Show.    -- For previous episodes, our socials, community events, and more, visit ⭐THE XBOXCAST OFFICIAL WEBSITE ⭐

Press Pause Radio - Podcast

ey everyone, apologies for sitting on the production of the episode for as long as we did—a combination of schedule changes within our daily routines coupled with the rare moments of poop-socking that were granted for us to dump giant loads into new releases with near endless maws of content really fucked up our usual operational turn-around times. Nevertheless, that’s all over and done with as we’re here to catch up with 2024 and plug away at another new year of gaming (and the sad sad shit that’s unfortunately stuck on to it like childhood baggage it would seem. Rest assured though, with the little money this outfit has ever seen in its fifteen year run so far, we’ve come nowhere NEAR the volume of corporate glut that was the Corporate budget for Milk from VICE management—holy shit is it wild y’all. Anyway, in this episode of Press Pause Radio, Ed, George, Andrew, and Sean all gather together to discuss the details of their precious screentime in another edition of “What’s in your Console “ and we get deep in our time with sharing with the class in this session of water cooler talk. On docket for the show, you’ll hear about the Commodore 64 Mini, Lazy Jones, Scramble, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, Tatsujin, GameBoy mod work, Hori Fighting sticks, Helldivers II, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Splatoon 3: Side Order, Mario VS Donkey Kong, Final Fantasy VII: Remake Intergrade, Contra: Operation Galuga, Palworld. Unicorn Overlord, the WiiU and so much more! So be sure to get your intake of Vitamin R and soak nearly 3 hours of ear candy from one of the oldest video game podcasts still kicking in the game—here’s episode 150 of Press Pause Radio!Mail us at our new email Mailbag@presspauseradio.com, leave a voicemail at 469-PPR-TALK, and be sure to stop by at our Forums if you haven’t already registered and post your thoughts about the show. As we continue our cruise through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters here on KnockBack, we come to the enigma that is Final Fantasy III. Like Final Fantasy II, III never got a western release at the time it came to Famicom in 1990. But unlike II, which finally saw the light of day in the west late in the PSone era, we had to wait until 2006 to play Final Fantasy III in western markets, and we did so via a 3D remake on Nintendo DS with a sterile and boring aesthetic overshadowing an otherwise solid job-based title. Finally, though, we can experience it as intended, with chibi sprites and chiptunes, and we're glad we did. A prelude to beloved Final Fantasy IV -- not in story, but in substance -- Final Fantasy III is a worthy old-school JRPG, one we're pleased to present thoughts on today. What's even more exciting, though, is that we can now be unleashed on the truly amazing series entries to come... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Our meandering through the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters continues with Final Fantasy II, widely considered the 'black sheep' of the traditional series. But a lot of that hinges on perception, or lack thereof. See, Final Fantasy II took forever to come to the west -- it came to Famicom in 1988 but never migrated outside of Japan until it launched on PSone in 2003 -- so the reality is, a lot of people don't have any experience with it at all. And those that do have played it in sometimes less-than-ideal circumstances, though there are some good ports and reworkings on GBA (2004) and PSP (2007) to note. This episode of KnockBack, not surprisingly, is dedicated to the beleaguered II, the odd-man-out of classic Final Fantasy. With a differentiated experience system, an easily-broken economy, and actual characters and story, it's certainly a tale of ups and downs. Learn more about your ad choices. A minor culling is underway at and around PlayStation, with a smaller first party studio going away and an in-production second party FPS seemingly cancelled. But it's unclear why this would necessarily be looked at as a bad thing. If teams and products aren't living up to their promise -- and if they presumably don't reach an ever-increasing quality bar internally -- shouldn't they be cut loose? Still, at a time when consolidation and headcount means anything, that Sony is taking these risks indicates there's more at play, with the potential of a brighter future on the other side. Let's discuss. Other news this week includes massive numbers for the Horizon franchise, now Sony's sixth best-selling series ever, while Pokémon studio GameFreak gets into bed with Take Two and PS+ gets its strongest slate of new additions in months. Finally, we wrap things up -- as always -- with listener inquiries. Was IGN wrong to say that games its staff has never heard of aren't worth your attention to begin with? Have the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters invoked a new interest in Stranger of Paradise? Can anything be done to halt the death of game rentals? While we don't have any new games to discuss this week, Sean and Marc saw a certain box office smash on Sunday (The Super Mario Bros Movie) that they'll have some NON-SPOILER thoughts on for this episode of Video Games 2 the MAX. Yes, the long-awaited Super Mario Bros film has been released and it has broken quite a few records in its wake. Sean and Marc discuss why they enjoyed the film, Sean's experience watching it in 4DX, and their thoughts on why Movie critics apparently severely dislike it. The guys also debate whether there will be a Nintendo Cinematic Universe made around the success of the film, or if it should just remain centered around Mario and his part of the Nintendo clan. What films could realistically spin off of it? And should there be any other type of media made as well? There's also some other movie news as well since the Five Nights at Freddy's Movie has a release window, Opening Night Live and the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters finally have a date, no more Alice games says EA, Persona 3 Remake and Jet Set Radio Future get more possible validations, and more! You can also watch this episode on video via the W2M Network Youtube channel. Originally Recorded on 12/21/22. This is just a straight up goof. Sean thought he had posted the audio version and turns out he did not. Unfortunately, due to further personal issues for Sean, we haven't been able to keep a set schedule, but at least we do have another episode of Video Games 2 the MAX for ya. Although the Game Awards have passed, there's been quite a bit of fallout from it that isn't just the announcements and awards, (although the guys are going to discuss some of their favorite things from it and about the show in general), such as the show doing incredibly well in viewership numbers, more information on some of the announcements, criticism towards Xbox for basically no showing the event, especially when their rivals did have announcements at the Game Awards, and more. Microsoft is seemingly making more strides in concessions to help the Activision-Blizzard deal go through, including offering Call of Duty on PS Plus and offering that 10-year deal as well. Then, there's the other side of it where the FTC is suing to block the acquisition, but the EU and CMA may be heading the other way on it. At least there is some interesting news on the Game Pass front with a possible ad-supported tier coming and that High on Life is doing great numbers on the service. Plus, Sean is excited that the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters are finally coming to consoles. The Amazon God of War show is gonna be EPIC. Henry Cavill leaves the Superman role but now looks to be starting a Warhammer movie universe. Sean and Marc have both played Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, Sean is loving Chained Echoes, and much more. Although the Game Awards have passed, there's been quite a bit of fallout from it that isn't just the announcements and awards, (although the guys are going to discuss some of their favorite things from it and about the show in general), such as the show doing incredibly well in viewership numbers, more information on some of the announcements, criticism towards Xbox for basically no showing the event, especially when their rivals did have announcements at the Game Awards, and more.Microsoft is seemingly making more strides in concessions to help the Activision-Blizzard deal go through, including offering Call of Duty on PS Plus and offering that 10-year deal as well. You can also watch this episode on video via the W2M Network Youtube channel: https://youtu.be/rbusx-6m-8k- Plugs -Join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/aydMgvUN9dVisit Our Website: https://w2mnet.com/Follow us on Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@w2mnetwork2Follow Us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/w2mnetworkSean Twitter: https://twitter.com/W2MSeanMarc Twitter: https://twitter.com/HumanityPlagueFollow us on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/w2mnetworkFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/w2mnetwork/Follow Us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/W2MNetwork

It's finally coming to a head in this tourney of terrible theatrics. But before any of that, the crew has to get through some news. Some release date announcements, ports for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters, and The Cowabunga Collection getting an update to address lingering issues are the keynotes to look out for. Afterward, the crew has a few reviews. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is covered by everyone, while Eric reviews the not-so-good Black Adam. After some Stinkos and Sweetos covering mostly the Orange dumbass and Griner finally coming home, The final part of this tournament concludes. It's something worth tuning in to hear. Rumor: New online 2D Mario in the works Welcome back! It's another Tuesday, which means tonight there will be a new episode of the Spot Dodge Podcast exclusively on Destructoid. Topics: Tonight the crew discusses Mortal Shell launching on Switch, Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters coming to most consoles, and a new rumored 2D Mario game in the works! Zippo claimed last August that a new 2D Mario game is in the works and it'll have an art style that will “surprise” people. They also claimed it will feature online multiplayer. Lastly, this alleged new 2D Mario game will not be a part of the “New Super Mario Bros.” series. Fast-forward to now, Zippo returns with some new info about the alleged 2D Mario game. Apparently, Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad are all playable characters — the exact same lineup as in Super Mario Bros. 2 for NES. One thing is for sure, I really hope this claim about an art style that will “surprise” people is true. We've gotten four mainline 2D Mario games and one major expansion that used the “New Super Mario Bros.” art direction and it has been bland from the start. It's time for something new and exciting for 2D Mario, and a stylish new art direction is exactly what the series needs to spice things up. Hell, something along the lines of the fan-made Super Mario Flashback would be nice. Our lovely cast from around the web: Brett Medlock (me) and Mary Stowe from Destructoid, John Friscia from The Escapist, Greg Bargas from PC Invasion, and Brett Larsen, our extra special guest. Behind the scenes, Gamurs' Eric Weichhart is live-editing this week's show. Let us know in the comments! Spot Dodge is a weekly Nintendo-focused Podcast here at Destructoid where we dedicate an hour or two to go over the latest Nintendo news and discuss the games we're playing. If you're a fan of Nintendo Switch, RPGs, or having a good time, Spot Dodge will be a great addition to your podcast rotation. So be sure to subscribe! Spot Dodge is streaming live every Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. PT / 7:00 p.m. ET on Twitch channel. ICYMI: We now have a dedicated Spot Dodge YouTube channel! All future episodes will be live-streamed and uploaded there. Afterward, the show will be available on-demand for audio listeners via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and more. The RPGrinders are back and ready to fight! On the episode Frank battles the heat, Break fights Skype, and Eric is ready to beat up Break. To get it all started, the Grinders bring the latest in JRPG news. This time the news cycle is heavily dominated by Square Enix (Squenix). Two new Mana games are coming to mobile and Legend of Mana is getting a worldwide anime release. Squenix also showed new images and revealed the prices of the first 3 Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters. The Grinders aren't happy with the pricing but what do you think? Dear Break Man makes a return and with multiple questions! So much advice, in so little time. This time we have some advice for dealing with squirrels and we find out more about Frank's past. It wouldn't be RPGrinders without Stinkos. Break is pretty upset about the prison release of the rapist once known as "America's Dad"but no one is as hot under the collar as Frank because his AC has broken. It might not cool off Frank but the Grinders have some nice Sweetos to put a chill on the Stinkos. Break reads excerpts from a riverfronttimes.com article written by Daniel Hill and Frank celebrates the loot received for Frank Day. With one week left before the Tournament of Greatness returns, the Grinders finish up the Free For All with a discussion about Itch.io. Apple's war with Epic has resulted in Itch.io in the crosshairs. As a result, the LGBTQ games are being lumped in with the "unspeakable" games. Once again, the LGBTQ community is being punished for no other reason than existing. IF you have time, please check out The Countdown 2020 podcast. E3 is finally here! If you've listened to the last two episodes, you'll know that we've been super hyped for this year's showcase and surrounding events. Well, if you could just skip this episode and remember us in the rosy glow of our anticipation, that would be great. Just kidding. Mostly. Okay, okay, so maybe this year's E3 wasn't the greatest, and maybe some of the publishers seemed to have forgotten what an E3 showcase looks like, but it wasn't all a wash. Microsoft and Nintendo had great showings, and there are a metric crap ton of cool looking indie games coming out very soon. We cover a whole lotta games in this episode, so strap in and join Joey, Tab, and Ron as they navigate one of the most uneven and confusing E3s ever!
