århundrede i Japan.
Welcome to episode 53 of Shack Together! We're joined by special guest TJ Denzer to discuss his review of Split Fiction, while we all buzz with nostalgic excitement over the (formal) announcement of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 Remake. Today's show also features an in-depth look at Metacritic's 2024 publisher rankings, where a certain prolific publisher, famous for a certain Blue Blur, claimed the top spot. The show features our Publisher Draft segment, breaking down Metacritic's comprehensive ranking system that evaluates publishers based on their average Metascores, quality ratios, and ability to avoid critical failures. From industry giants like Capcom and Sony to smaller publishers like Aksys Games and Gamera Games, our squad competitvely drafts last year's top players in an effort to come out on top. In Story Time, we cover major industry developments including Monster Hunter Wilds reaching 8 million sales, Neil Druckmann's comments on The Last of Us Part 3, and the revival of the Acclaim publishing brand. We also discuss Pokemon TCG Pocket hitting 100 million downloads and explore several Steam Next Fest demos including Fumes and Curiosity. And that's all for today's show! Linktree: https://linktr.ee/AnalyticIn this segment, Analytic Dreamz explores the closure of Ubisoft's XDefiant, set to go offline completely on June 2, 2025. We'll discuss the immediate changes like the halt in new registrations, downloads, and in-game purchases. Refunds are on the table for recent buyers, with the Ultimate Founder's Pack purchasers and those who made in-game transactions in the last month getting their money back within eight weeks. Initially launched in May 2024, XDefiant saw a stellar start, hitting 1 million players in just 2.5 hours and averaging 300,000 concurrent players in its first 48 hours, featuring beloved characters from Ubisoft's extensive library. However, the game's player count plummeted, with numbers below 20,000 by August 2024, unable to stand out in a saturated FPS market. We'll delve into Ubisoft's broader challenges, including significant layoffs, the closure of several studios, and a tough year marked by other game flops and ongoing issues. Analytic Dreamz will analyze what this means for Ubisoft and the future of free-to-play shooters amidst industry-wide layoffs and economic pressuresSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

In what has been a tumultuous year for Ubisoft already, the company delivered more bad news over the last week as not only are they sunsetting their live-service title XDefiant, a game that has been long-rumored to be in trouble on its own, but Ubisoft finally delivered the finishing blow and also issued several layoffs at studios involved in making the game as well. With more rumors swirling about Tencent and the Guillemot family talking about a buyout it feels like Ubisoft is in some real danger of having even further repercussions come down the line. Is there a way to stop this for Ubisoft? Does it have to involve a big buyout? Shawn Layden was once again interviewed about the state of gaming, this time focusing on game size and its major cost. Will we see shorter games in the coming years? Or is there something else that we will see as the new trend in gaming? Sean has been playing Fantasian and a little bit of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, while Marc has played Infinity Nikki and has beaten Alan Wake 2.Plus, Foamstars' seasonal content ends early next year, Illfonic Studios issues layoffs, we look at 2024 for Xbox, and much more! This Week: Ubisoft announces the shutdown of XDefiant, while BioWare celebrates Dragon Age Day with a standalone character creator app for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Plus, a new study reveals gamers are spending more time watching games than actually playing them, FromSoftware talks Elden Ring sequel, and PlayStation takes us back in time with a nostalgic update for the PS5. And in bizarre gaming news, KFC introduces a play on the old school Tomagatchis. Our special guest, Trisha Hershberger, joins us to chat The Game Awards’ biggest contenders, expected announcements, and how gaming is evolving as younger players grow older.
Celebrating episode 400 by being one of our shortest in years! We talk about some accessibility, XDefiant shutting down, and Marvel Rivals news (not a review yet). We have a very active foodos segment and then Peterson does a first impression of Techtonica. JD picks his dice game, we play an old 3-bit Christmas song, and end it.
News is admittedly slow as the industry awaits major announcements at the imminent Game Awards. But a specific interview was recently released that still gives us plenty to discuss. The website Eurogamer sat down with ex-PlayStation executive Shawn Layden for a fascinating chat about the present and future of the console space, and he had tons to say. We spend a lot of time dissecting his thoughts on topics ranging from PlayStation 6 and console agnosticism to Sony publishing on Xbox and perhaps the most important issues of all: The cost to develop increasingly long and expensive games that few people even bother to beat. Other news this week includes the shuttering of Ubisoft's beleaguered shooter XDefiant, the announcement of a blatant ripoff of Guerrilla's Horizon series called Light of Motiram, FromSoft's puzzling claim that it's not working on an Elden Ring sequel, and more. Listener inquiries help us round things out, per usual. Is Sony quietly giving PSVR2 a new push? How can Square Enix still be publishing PS1 games? Will Sony's E3 2013 'game sharing video' truly resonate throughout time? When will the audience learn that -- yes, indeed! -- you should definitely listen to our rock-solid relationship advice? The game requires an Intel i7 10700K or Ryzen 5 3600, 16–32GB of RAM, and high-end GPUs like the RTX 2060 or RX 6600, even for minimum settings. For ultra settings, players would need top-tier GPUs like the RTX 4080. The high system requirements are seen as indicative of poor optimization. Comparisons were drawn to Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2, with Red Dead praised for its visuals and optimization despite being older. Frustration was voiced about the increasing trend of prioritizing hardware power over optimization. Blizzard Updates – Warcraft and WoW Additional updates from Blizzard included news about Warcraft 1 & 2 remakes and player housing in World of Warcraft. Warcraft 1 & 2 are being remastered with higher resolutions and updated art. However, the original versions are being removed from platforms like GOG, sparking criticism. Blizzard announced that World of Warcraft would finally introduce long-requested player housing, although details are scarce. The discussion touched on GOG's legacy of successful optimization and their approach to preserving classic games for modern audiences. Updates on AAA Gaming Bubble and Laura Frier's Commentary Laura Frier, a former executive in the gaming industry, was discussed for her YouTube videos analyzing the AAA gaming space. Her videos touch on key issues like the mismanagement of major projects, "toxic positivity", and the industry's inability to align with gamer feedback. She criticizes AAA studios for not listening to gamers and instead relying on overly positive reviews from gaming media. The conversation also delved into societal issues like backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in gaming. Toxic masculinity and resistance to changes in the gaming industry were highlighted as ongoing challenges. Ubisoft's Decline and X Defiant Cancellation The guys discussed Ubisoft's decision to discontinue development on X Defiant, a free-to-play first-person shooter, due to poor market performance and profitability concerns. Ubisoft also shut down production studios in San Francisco, Osaka, and Sydney, with layoffs affecting 150 employees. The company's ongoing struggles were attributed to over-reliance on the games-as-a-service model, which is unpopular with many gamers. Broader criticism of Ubisoft included the underwhelming performance of Star Wars Outlaws and declining investor confidence, with their stock losing half its value in 2023. Intel's New Graphics Cards (Battle Mage Series) Intel's upcoming line of Arc graphics cards, code-named Battle Mage, was introduced as a potential disruptor in the graphics card market. The B570 and B580 models aim to compete with Nvidia's RTX 4060 at significantly lower prices. The B580 could offer a 10–40% performance boost over the RTX 4060 while being $100–$150 cheaper. These cards are targeted at the mid-tier budget market, making PC gaming more accessible. The guys expressed hope for Intel's success to increase competition in the GPU space and lower inflated prices. Indie Game Spotlight – Gnomes A unique indie game called Gnomes was highlighted for its creative mix of gameplay styles. Gnomes is a tower-defense game with roguelike elements and strategic resource management. Players build gnome villages while defending against waves of invading goblins. The game features a modular map system, synergies between different upgrades, and quirky aesthetics. Gameplay blends elements of Lemmings (UI), Loop Hero (strategic loop mechanics), and Luck Be a Landlord (meta-progression and upgrades). The guys praised the game's demo for its balance, fun mechanics, and whimsical vibe. They encouraged players to try the free demo available on Steam and speculated on a release within the coming months. Broader Gaming Industry Trends and Community Plans The discussion concluded with reflections on the gaming industry's struggles with innovation, reliance on PR over quality, and the need for more competition. The guys expressed nostalgia for the golden age of gaming when the market offered more diverse and polished titles. They plan to stream the PC Gaming Show on December 5th and the Game Awards on December 12th. Social games like Jackbox may be hosted during the holidays for friends and community members alike!

Ubisoft Ends XDefiant Support & Studio Closures | FromSoftware's New Projects | Bloodborne Tease? - Ubisoft has confirmed it's discontinuing support for *XDefiant* and shutting down studios in San Francisco, Osaka, and downsizing in Sydney. Servers will remain active until June 2025, but no new downloads or purchases are allowed. - FromSoftware isn't working on *Elden Ring 2* but is developing multiple new games across different genres, some led by other developers. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted that the *Elden Ring* IP could return in the future. - Bloodborne fans are buzzing after a PlayStation 30th-anniversary video showed a brief clip of the game's Hunter with the words “It's about persistence.” Is this a tease or just a cruel nod to fans?
