Cal Wilson is a stand-up comedian, writer, actor, author and TV and radio host. She moved from New Zealand to Australian shores in 2003 and has gone on to become one of Australia's most popular comedians. She is a favourite on television shows such as ABC's Spicks and Specks and Good News Week, as well as Thank God You're Here, Hughesy, We Have A Problem, Have You Been Paying Attention? Skithouse, Rove Live, The Glasshouse and the 2022 premiere series of Would I Lie To You? Australia, all on Network Ten. Amongst taking our screens and stages by storm, Cal landed a dream job of hers – an ensemble cast member in Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia alongside some of the country's brightest improvisers. In 2018, she was invited by Netflix to the Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal to record a Netflix Original Comedy Special which was released globally in early 2019. That same year Cal become a very serious children's author, penning two books called “George and the Great Bum Stampede,” and “George and the Great Brain Swappery.” A gifted storyteller & writer, Cal was invited to join the writing team for the 2022 BAFTA Awards ceremony, as well as having previously written on the series Mean Mums and The Weekly with Charlie Pickering. She is the Melbourne live show host of the worldwide smash-hit storytelling podcast The Moth and in July this year she once again joined comedy phenomenon podcast The Guilty Feminist on tour around her native country, New Zealand. Despite an aversion to the great outdoors, Cal bravely joined the cast of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! in 2022 which saw her take on all the usual hair-raising challenges and biblical amount of bugs the series has to offer. Unprecedented times called for unprecedented adventures and at the very least some good material. Taking a swift move away from creepy crawlies and into all things cake – Cal has just been announced as a brand new host of The Great Australian Bake Off which will air on Foxtel in 2023. Cal also has some shows out, in particular if you're in Melbourne check her out at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival! We chat about Cal's daily reddit routine, her obsession with cats, improv and stand up comedy, collaboration and connection, her unique philosophy and mindset, supporting others, perseverance and resilience. This week’s guest is one of the enduring stars of Australian comedy. He’s good-hearted, infinitely likeable, smart and funny. I speak, of course, of the great Peter Helliar. I’ll take it for granted that we all we Peter best for his on air partnership with Rove McManus as well as his work on Skithouse, Before The Game, co-hosting The Project and his super-star alter ego – the final pick in the 2004 AFL draft, Brian Strauchan. There are also his successful TV shows, It’s a Date and How to Stay Married. And then there’s his stand-up – which is consistently funny, and also forms a heartfelt connection with the audience. Don’t forget to check out Pete’s movie podcast You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet, where he talks to movie lovers about classic and beloved movies they haven't quite got around to seeing.... until now. It's Finale Week for Matt's season of The Bachelor, and as such, it's time for another marathon-length, meandering wrap-up podcast. We do our best to digest a finale which had a few surprises up its sleeves, as well as trying to summarise our feelings about the whole of Season 7. We discuss the largely unfair treatment of Abbie, and the way the show creates an unnecessary binary between the 'right choice' and the 'wrong choice'. We also look at how the show hides its inherent bias towards the preferences of each season's lead, what it means to say "I love you" on The Bachelor, Plus, it's been a little while since we talked about SkitHouse, so we do a few minutes on that as well.[Click here to download MP3.]

Some might say that Christine Basil was a late starter in the stand-up comedy scene. But she didn't let her marriage, kids and dogs get in the way. Kicking off in 1991, Christine has since taken her comedy around the world, and seen her write and perform TV comedy shows including Full Frontal, Totally Full Frontal, and Skithouse, to name a few. She also had a successful stint on commercial radio. With that experience, it's no wonder she's a popular comedy coach for up and coming comedians on the Australian comedy festival circuit. In this School of Hard Knock Knocks podcast episode, we discuss her visual approach to writing jokes, her advice for up and comers, and being truthful to oneself in comedy. If you're starting out in comedy, or have been on the open mic circuit for a while and need a boost, you'll enjoy this interview with Christine Basil.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Things are heating up already on week 2 of The Bachelorette, and this week we saw some real highs and lows; from a creative and fun date using Sophie's family as undercover agents, to the frustrating and exhausting 'Real Man Games'. Plus, endorsements for a new diet cola, our pitch for a Skithouse reality dating show, and (sigh) yes, a couple of Dune Rats jokes.[Click here to download MP3.]

You probably know Corinne Grant best from her comedic work on Rove, skitHOUSE or The Glass House. She’s been passionate about social justice and politics all her life but has recently made the decision to get her law degree and get her hands dirty for what she believes in. Here we discuss Sophie Mirabella, unions, how she tried (and failed) to marry her comedy with her politics, the Glass House and ABC bias, the disappointments of Labor, writing speeches for Julia Gillard, Australians and their apathy and refugee rights. We also reflected on a difference of opinion we had a few years ago surrounding gay male comedians and misogyny.
