What did you think of this episode?Have you discovered hidden gifts during times of grieving? Raewyn Elsegood shares her story behind the story and offers tips to help you excel as a writer. Don't go anywhere. Your Best Writing Life begins right now.Welcome to Your Best Writing Life, an extension of the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference held in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of NC. I'm your host, Linda Goldfarb. Each week, I bring tips and strategies from writing and publishing industry experts to help you excel in your craft. It's great to have you listening in. During this episode, we experience The Story Behind 21 Gifts: A Sacred Dance Through Grief and Healing.Today's guest, Raewyn Elsegood, is an Australian chaplain, speaker, and award-winning author of 21 Gifts: A Sacred Dance Through Grief and Healing. Drawing on more than 30 years in ministry and a decade of chaplaincy, she equips people to walk compassionately beside those experiencing grief, helping them discover hope, faith, and purpose even in life's deepest losses.Raewyn, welcome to Your Best Writing Life!We all want to know the story behind 21 Gifts – give us some background1. God wrote a different book than I intended.I thought I was writing and journaling about surviving my daughter's death. Instead, God revealed that He was writing a book about discovering His gifts hidden within grief. The manuscript became as much my healing journey as it did a book for others. 2. Writing became an act of discipleship.Every chapter required me to sit with God before I could write for anyone else. Sometimes writing wasn't about producing words—it was about letting God reshape my heart first.3. My greatest wound became my greatest ministry.Losing Amy changed every part of my life and transformed my chaplaincy. The book helped me realize that God was inviting me to move from telling my story to equipping others to walk compassionately alongside grieving people.4. Publication wasn't the finish line.Publishing 21 Gifts opened unexpected doors to media, including teaching at conferences, YouTube, radio, podcasts, speaking engagements, disaster recovery chaplaincy, and a grief support program. The book is becoming the beginning of a much larger ministry.5. God is still rewriting the author. One conversation with a literary agent after a writers' conference completely changed the direction of my next book. Their feedback helped me realize God wasn't simply calling me to tell my story—He was calling me to teach from my experience as a chaplain. That shift is beautifully shaping my next book project, The Chaplain's Chair. Writer's tips. 1. Write from transformation, not simply information.Readers remember books that changed the author before they changed the audience.2. Let God edit you before you edit your manuscript. The deepest writing often comes after we've wrestled honestly with God.Deep conversation----3. Don't chase publication—pursue faithfulness.Success isn't measured only by book sales. It's measured by obedience to the message God has entrusted to you. What Listeners Will Gain - Although 21 Gifts was written for grieving people, writers will discover something equally valuable. They'll learn that our deepest pain doesn't disqualify us from writing—it often becomes the place where God develops our most authentic voice.Readers will gain practical, faith-filled tools for navigating grief, while writers will be encouraged to embrace vulnerability, write with courage, trust God's timing, and recognize that every story can become someone else's hope.Ultimately, 21 Gifts reminds us that God rarely wastes our suffering; He often transforms it into the message we're uniquely called to share.Link to Paula Mosher Wallace - Three Stages of Writing Your PainYou can find out more about Raewyn Elsegood below.SOCIAL LINKS:Website - www.raewynelsegood.comBook 21 Gifts: A Sacred Dance Through Grief and Healing Amazon and major online bookstoresInstagram - @raewynelsegoodYouTube - @ChaplainsGriefInsightsEmail - raewyn@raewynelsegood.comVisit Your Best Writing Life website.Join our Facebook group, Your Best Writing LifeYour host - Linda Goldfarb#4 Podcast 2026 "Million Podcasts Top 30 Christian Writers Podcasts"#1 Podcast 2024 "Top 50+ Must-Have Tools and Resources for Christian Writers.Awarded the Spark Media 2023 Fan Favorites Best Solo PodcastAwarded the Spark Media 2022 Most Binge-Worthy Podcast

In this episode of Confidently Balance Your Hormones, Dee Davidson is joined by fellow Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner and executive wellness coach Raewyn Guerrero for a powerful conversation on why so many women hit a wall in midlife—and why minerals may be the missing link.Burnout in your 40s and beyond doesn't come out of nowhere. Years of stress, under-fueling, over-giving, hormone shifts, and “pushing through” quietly deplete the body's mineral reserves. Dee and Raewyn explain why midlife is often the moment when the body can no longer compensate—and symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, poor sleep, weight resistance, brain fog, and hormone chaos begin to surface. This episode dives into Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) as a simple yet profound check-in tool for midlife women. Often referred to as the body's spark plugs, minerals drive energy production, nervous system balance, hormone signaling, and detox pathways. When minerals are depleted or imbalanced, nothing fires efficiently—no matter how “healthy” you're eating or how many supplements you're taking.Together, Dee and Raewyn discuss:Why burnout hits differently in midlifeHow chronic stress reshapes mineral patterns over timeWhat HTMA reveals that blood work often missesWhy minerals are foundational for hormone balance and nervous system resilienceHow rebuilding mineral status creates capacity to heal instead of just copeIf you're a woman who feels like what used to work no longer does, this episode offers clarity, validation, and a grounded next step. Midlife isn't a breakdown—it's often the body asking for a deeper, more personalized approach.

We're excited to welcome our guest speaker Pastor Raewyn Orlich! She serves as associate pastor for discipleship and nurture at the La Sierra University Church. In her book, “In Grandpa's Shoes: An Invitation to Intergenerational Connection,” she shares how her grandfather, Eric Webster (pastor and ultra-marathon runner) helped inspire her ministry and provides reflection questions for small groups. She and her physician-poet husband, Michael, are raising three members of Generation Alpha: Eleanor, Eric, and Desmond. "What's your favorite song, the song you would most like to share with people from different generations? Why is it important to you? This Sabbath we look at an ancient Hebrew song, Psalm 145, that was used to teach the faith, exploring what it says is the most important to share." - Pastor Orlich
Sir Graham Henry (aka “Ted”) is one of the greatest All Black coaches of all time. He left the role with a win record of 85%In 2011, with a little help from his friends, he coached the All Blacks to a Rugby World Cup win, breaking a 24-year drought. This was made even more remarkable on account of a thing called The Henry clause- a rule made by the NZ Rugby union in the late 1990s to make sure Graham would never get to coach the All Blacks after he went overseas to coach Wales. We talk about that clause and so much more- his early years and how he got together with his soulmate, Raewyn. His self-diagnosed depression which saw him quit coaching in the UK, his 103-test coaching career with the All Blacks and much more.Sir Graham Henry is a sharp operator, and this was a lot of fun. For me at least. In this episode I talk to Raewyn Guerrero about the importance of understanding and treating the root cause of illness and not just the symptoms as well as the importance of creating wellness programs in the workplace that are sustainable and include the power of mindset. Introduction Raewyn integrates nutrition with psychology to bring about rapid transformation in the mental and physical health of individuals and organizations. After years chasing symptoms in the Conventional Medicine World to address her own Anxiety, Burnout, IBS and Infertility, Raewyn discovered the evidence-based framework of Functional Medicine which reversed her medical diagnoses. Inspired by the rapid transformation and shifts in her own health, she retrained in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition. Her work has evolved from hypnotherapy for anxiety, performance and personal development to using functional lab testing and personalized nutrition, to address IBS and chronic health conditions that can be holding you back from reaching your full potential. Because when you get the body right, the brain will follow. Her mission is to awaken everyone she meets to the innate wisdom of the body, so that they can live longer with clarity, freedom and joy. Raewyn and I discuss: Who Raewyn is and what led her on this journey The difference of functional medicine vs. going to see your general practitioner Being open to the journey of functional medicine The harm of multiple courses of antibiotics and the dangers to the gut Tips on improving gut health The human connection Blue light benefits Tips for Successfully changing habits Having a good support system Learning and acting on things or nothing will change Being conscientious about what you consume (mind and body) One last thing Raewyn would like to leave the listeners with More about Raewyn: Raewyn Guerrero is The Gutsy Executive Coach, guiding high-performing women to create their dream lives through dream health. Her work has evolved from nutritional approaches to reversing Anxiety, Burnout and IBS to showing women what is possible for them through the power of the mind by tapping into mental rehearsal and visualization. After years of chasing symptoms within the traditional medical and therapy systems to address her own Anxiety, Fatigue, IBS, Insomnia, and Thyroid issues, she finally discovered Functional Medicine - which was a joined up approach to addressing each of these conditions through custom nutrition, informed by cutting-edge laboratory work. She offers custom Lifestyle and Nutrition Solutions if you're feeling stuck and burnt out so that you can take your personal and professional life to the next level She's an international Best Selling Author, CBT Hypnotherapist, Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. About our guest, Raewyn Guerrero: Raewyn has lived and worked in London since 2001. She founded a Virtual Wellbeing Practice, Well Works in 2017 which offers bespoke nutrition and psychotherapy programs for high-achieving executives to recover from burnout, so they can feel energized, aligned and unstoppable. Prior to 2017, she spent 6 years as the Global Wellbeing Manager at a multi-national bank, developing group wellness programmes for those struggling with 21st Century chronic health conditions, such as stress, anxiety, depression, IBS, back and neck pain, and obesity. In 2012, she introduced 6 week Mindful Awareness workshops to employees with the aim of reducing stress, and improving focus, clarity and creativity, and facilitated regular Balance at Barclays weekly drop-in meditation sessions. This was a huge achievement as meditation at that time was very much taboo. At Well Works, she now integrates Personalized Nutrition with CBT and Meditation to bring about rapid transformation in the mental and physical health of individuals and organizations.
