Alonzo Bodden is one of the hardest-working and funniest working standup comics on the touring circuit today. He won Season 3 of NBC's Last Comic Standing; he has four standup specials so far; he's a regular panelist on NPR's Wait, Wait… Don't Tell Me!; he's played a bouncer or a security guard in countless movies and TV shows; and he even voiced monsters on the Power Rangers. He's been around. But before he had anything to do with show business, Alonzo was an aircraft mechanic who got a job working for Lockheed Martin on the F-117 Nighthawk stealth bomber – one of the most advanced top secret aircraft in the world – when he graduated from Aviation High School in New York. At 18, he moved to Los Angeles, started making a lot of money, found himself in the throes of addiction, and wound up in jail. The sound of the cell door slamming shut was his turning point. In this episode, Alonzo shares details about his New York upbringing, his battle with addiction, his path to sobriety (36 years ago!), and how it all led him to find his calling: comedy. He also shares the one hilarious joke he told at the 1997 Montreal Just for Laughs festival that immediately transformed him from a guy who did standup comedy to fully realized comic. You won't want to miss it. Wherever you live, Alonzo will be in a town near you sooner or later and seeing him live should be high on your priority list. Find him at www.alonzobodden.com. Shrinking actor Matt Knudsen had a non-traditional path to showbiz success. Hear his story. Matt Knudsen was born in Hawaii, raised in the Midwest and sailed around the world as a merchant marine. After trips to Europe, Africa and the Far East, he eventually put down his sea bag, picked up a microphone and began performing stand up comedy all across the country. As an actor, Matt has shared the screen with Oscar winners Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin, Sean Penn and more, and has appeared in dozens of Emmy and Golden Globe winning television shows like Key & Peele, Workaholics, The Big Bang Theory, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The League, NCIS, Big Love, Boston Legal and Malcolm in the Middle. As a comedian, he's been on Conan, The Late Late Show, Last Call, ASX Live and Comics Unleashed. His latest stand up special Good News was produced by Dry Bar Comedy and currently has millions of views throughout their distribution network. Festival appearances include Montreal Just for Laughs (Best of the Fest), The San Francisco Sketchfest, Bridgetown, High Plains, Limestone and he's even entertained at The White House for President and Mrs. Obama. His critically acclaimed albums The Comedy Stylings of Matt Knudsen, American, and Yes And are top downloads on iTunes and heard regularly on SiriusXM and Pandora radio. They “Mix droll observation with a dry, almost hypnotic delivery,” (The Onion A.V. Club) and with Knudsen's unique style, “The personal feels universal, and the universal feels personal. The only explanation for this phenomenon is that it's all finely crafted comedy from a strong central voice…a great stand up album.” (The Huffington Post)

This week on Center Stage: Todd Glass! Solidly ensconced in the 30-40 demographic, comedian Todd Glass may now be considered ineligible to be labeled a wunderkind — but he certainly was one, having launched his career in comedy at age 16. Since that precocious start, the Philadelphia native has developed into a polished performer with a bent for inventive material that often mocks the conventions of standup.Todd has amassed an impressive list of credits. He was one of the house finalists in "Last Comic Standing 2" and "Last Comic Standing 3: Battle of the Best" and had guest appearances on ABC's "Home Improvement," NBC's "Friends," and HBO's "Mr. Show." Todd has also become a veritable fixture on Comedy Central, headlining his own half-hour standup special "Comedy Central Presents: Todd Glass." His television appearances include performances on "The Sarah Silverman Show," "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Showbiz Show with David Spade," "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn," and "Politically Incorrect."Todd is no stranger to working with talent. Comedian Erik Rivera isn’t on “the drugs” - despite what his mom thought. He just liked hitting the comedy clubs as a kid, and giving people - no matter where they’re from - something to relate to. We got into a pretty serious (but often funny) chat about being brown in a white world, and being American - while still in the mix of different cultures and countries (his mom’s from Guatemala, his dad from Puerto Rico, and married white). Erik’s making his mark, making us laugh, and making us think. His HBO stand-up special “Super White!” covers the hilarious truths of parenting and being married in a mixed relationship. Erik’s comedic take on his unique experience has been featured on HBO’s “Entre Nos,” NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”, the Tonight Show, and the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival. AND he’s even teamed up with Eva Longoria and Kevin Hart to create meaningful (and hilarious) projects to drive representation forward. AND Erik’s created and written an upcoming animated show for Amazon - “Ricky & Cricket”. AND then there was that one time he was on CBS “Superior Donuts” - in the most talked about episode tackling immigration in the US. This week, host Jesse David Fox sits down with the legendary George Wallace. A stand-up since the 70s, Wallace is once one of the country’s most in-demand comedians, and has recently found a new fan base via Twitter. This week’s clip is a supercut of a type of joke George tells a lot, jokes under the theme of the catchphrase, “stupid stuff.” The clips are from shows spanning decades, including his 2016 Montreal Just for Laughs Festival appearance, a set from his historic 10 year run at the Flamingo in Las Vegas, and his 1991 HBO One Night Stand Special. He now lives in Los Angeles, he is a veteran at the Montreal Just for laughs festival, He performed on the late show with David letterman and also Jay Leno, He worked with Jon Stewart, he performed comedy all around the world,He did performed in some movies as well. I mean his resume is so long it would need several pages just to go through all of it . Lars Callieou is returning on the podcast, you know him already. He is a comedian from Edmonton touring the world with his act and now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he performs in what he calls the "Fire pit comedy tour". If you don't know what it is, just listen to the podcast, Lars talks about it. Jeremy and Lars talked deeply about being a comedian, how Jeremy got a picture with Jerry Lewis and why TV in Canada sucks. Great fun with these guys. We hope you'll like it. This episode is sponsored by the novel Don't Find Roger about a snarky PI who more lucky than good. If you like mystery novels with a dash of brashness, this is for you.
Cal Wilson came across the Tasman in 2003 and has gone on to become one of our most popular comedians. In 2018, Cal was invited by Netflix to the Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal to record a Netflix Original Comedy Special which was released in early 2019. Cal was also in the writers’ rooms for the first two seasons of The Weekly with Charlie Pickering . In 2016, she landed one of her dream jobs as an ensemble cast member in Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia alongside some of the country’s brightest improvisers. Cal (will) continue her national touring and is returning for her 5th year as the Melbourne live show host of the worldwide smash-hit storytelling podcast The Moth. 2019 also saw Cal become a very serious children’s author, penning two books called “George and the Great Bum Stampede,” and “George and the Great Brain Swappery.”
Nazeem Hussain is an Australian comedian, actor, television and radio presenter. He is best known as creator and star of both television comedy shows Legally Brown and Orange is the New Brown on SBS and Channel 7. He furthered his household name on “I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here” on Channel 10 where he spent 6 weeks in a South African jungle to raise money for InTouch Multicultural Centre Against Domestic Violence. His Netflix special Nazeem Hussain: Public Frenemy began streaming worldwide in 2019 to global acclaim. He made his American TV debut as an official correspondent for both seasons of the hit Netflix series “Bill Nye Saves the World” and was also invited to perform at the prestigious Montreal ‘Just for Laughs Festival' as a part of Kevin Hart's LOL network. A regular on international stages, Nazeem has performed around the globe, including sell-out seasons at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, London's Soho Theatre, all across New Zealand, Paris, Belgium, China, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States (including opening for Dave Chappelle in New York City), and a homecoming show in Sri Lanka to 2,500 people, including the Prime Minister and his wife. He has the courage to tackle issues like racism in Australia, political humour, race relations, Islamophobia and social commentary (on mainstream Australian television mind you!) through his artistry as a comedian. How dare he?! He's also a part of the Desi Illuminati. What's the “Desi Illuminati” you ask? Well I don't know. But I want to be a part of it. Nazeem has single handedly made me feel like there may be a space for me in the Australian Entertainment Industry landscape after all and that if he can do it, maybe I can. He of course, calls me, a “glitch in the matrix” - whatever it is, we are both proud and equally stunned by each other and this is well, a bloody good laugh. Enjoy!

KEVIN HART After an electrifying performance at amateur night in a Philadelphia comedy club, Kevin quit his shoe salesman job and began performing full time. However, it was his first appearance at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival that led Hart into roles in feature films. In 2009, Hart’s one-hour Comedy Central special, “I’m A Grown Little Man,” became one of the highest rated specials for the network and in 2010, Hart’s DVD “Seriously...Funny” was one of the fastest selling DVDs, going triple Platinum, aided by the Comedy Central special of the same name, which was the highest rated comedy special of 2010. In 2011 Hart released “Laugh At My Pain” the feature film version of his comedy tour, which grossed over $7 million and was 2011’s most successful film of those released in less than 300 theaters, catapulted Hart’s to the number one comedian on Ticketmaster, and helping him to sell out the Nokia Theater for two nights in a row, breaking the record previously set by Eddie Murphy. This lead to the LAMP DVD hitting double platinum in February 2012, after being on sale for only a month. His next comedy tour, “Let Me Explain” took him to 90 American cities along with Europe and Africa - resulting in him becoming the second American in history to sell out London’s O2 Arena. Hart spent most of the rest of the year filming two movies back to back (“About Last Night” and “Ride Along”). Additionally, Kevin starred in huge blockbusters like “Barbershop,” “Undeclared,” “Little Fockers,” "Death at a Funeral," "Fool’s Gold," Steve Harvey’s “Think Like A Man,” and “Judd Apatow’s “Five Year Engagement” and "The 40 Year-Old Virgin." However, it was his first appearance at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival that led Hart into roles in feature films. This lead to the LAMP DVD hitting double platinum in February 2012, after being on sale for only a month. His next comedy tour, “Let Me Explain” took him to 90 American cities along with Europe and Africa - resulting in him becoming the second American in history to sell out London’s O2 Arena.
