How do you evaluate a claim to prophethood? This episode applies three tests to Muhammad, peace be upon him: what did he stand to gain, did his actions match his words, and did his predictions come true? The results are striking. He turned down wealth, kingship, and all of Arabia to stop preaching. He died with his armor mortgaged for food. His own scripture corrected him publicly — permanently. He made specific predictions about future empires and events that were fulfilled. The profile of a fraud and the profile of a prophet look very different.

Whoever loves instruction and correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is like a brute beast, stupid and indiscriminating. 2 A good man obtains favor from the Lord, but a man of wicked devices He condemns. 3 A man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall never be moved. 4 A virtuous and worthy wife [earnest and strong in character] is a crowning joy to her husband, but she who makes him ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. 5 The thoughts and purposes of the [consistently] righteous are honest and reliable, but the counsels and designs of the wicked are treacherous. 6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them and the innocent ones [thus endangered]. 7 The wicked are overthrown and are not, but the house of the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall stand. 8 A man shall be commended according to his Wisdom [godly Wisdom, which is comprehensive insight into the ways and purposes of God], but he who is of a perverse heart shall be despised. 9 Better is he who is lightly esteemed but works for his own support than he who assumes honor for himself and lacks bread. 10 A [consistently] righteous man regards the life of his beast, but even the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. 11 He who tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits is lacking in sense and is without understanding. 12 The wicked desire the booty of evil men, but the root of the [uncompromisingly] righteous yields [richer fruitage]. 13 The wicked is [dangerously] snared by the transgression of his lips, but the [uncompromisingly] righteous shall come out of trouble. 14 From the fruit of his words a man shall be satisfied with good, and the work of a man's hands shall come back to him [as a harvest]. 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who listens to counsel is wise. 16 A fool's wrath is quickly and openly known, but a prudent man ignores an insult. 17 He who breathes out truth shows forth righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God), but a false witness utters deceit. 18 There are those who speak rashly, like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. 19 Truthful lips shall be established forever, but a lying tongue is [credited] but for a moment. 20 Deceit is in the hearts of those who devise evil, but for the counselors of peace there is joy. 21 No [actual] evil, misfortune, or calamity shall come upon the righteous, but the wicked shall be filled with evil, misfortune, and calamity. 22 Lying lips are extremely disgusting and hateful to the Lord, but they who deal faithfully are His delight. 23 A prudent man is reluctant to display his knowledge, but the heart of [self-confident] fools proclaims their folly. 24 The hand of the diligent will rule, but the slothful will be put to forced labor. 25 Anxiety in a man's heart weighs it down, but an encouraging word makes it glad. 26 The [consistently] righteous man is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked causes others to go astray. 27 The slothful man does not catch his game or roast it once he kills it, but the diligent man gets precious possessions. 28 Life is in the way of righteousness (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation), and in its pathway there is no death but immortality (perpetual, eternal life).

We are born to “look for who is looking for us.”    In the Voice of the Heart, which came out years before neuroscience research validated Dr Dodd's work, he writes that we are created by God to seek life to the full, but we can only find that fulfillment in relationship with ourselves (head and heart connected), with other, and with God.    Relational fulfillment is a dictate of our emotional and spiritual genetics. This genetic makeup is so powerful that we will seek a sense of connection that relationship brings in legitimate forms or in illegitimate ways as other episodes have explained, like the recent Addiction Series, Episodes 97-110.   So much of life is about the benefits of relational fulfillment that even the word share means that you receive from others initially, so that you can offer the gifts you have to others—whether that be the flowers you have grown; the experiences you have had; or the love you have received.   We cannot give what we do not have; therefore, we must be open to all that relational fulfillment can offer us, so that we have much to offer others.    Research has shown that gratitude for receiving allows a person to increase their sense of gratitude by giving.   There exists a “child-like” willingness that a person must have to live fully, because relational fulfillment with another person requires that we be: Truthful enough to be trustworthy. But one is greater in how it remains. Love. Why? Faith trusts what it cannot see. Hope longs for what has not yet arrived. Both belong to this present age. One day faith will become sight. Hope will become fulfillment. Love will not change. It will remain. Love does not graduate into something better. It does not expire when the age ends. Love reflects the eternal character of God. That is why it is greatest. It's the greatest remaining. Corinth was fighting over gifts that would pass away. Paul redirects them to what will remain forever. Anchor your life there. Not in visibility. Not in applause. Not in being right. Love. Truthful everlasting love. Spiritual maturity is measured by what will last. And love will last. DO THIS: Choose one unseen act of love this week—something that builds another person up without drawing attention to yourself. ASK THIS: If my gifts disappeared, would love still define me? Am I investing more in what impresses now—or what remains forever? PRAY THIS: Father, fix my heart on what is eternal. In this Thinking Talmudist episode on Ta'anit 22b, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the Talmudic teachings on rain as a divine blessing (geshem), its timing, and spiritual lessons from stories of Choni HaMe'agel (Choni the Circle-Maker), the greatest rain-maker in Jewish history.Key points:Rain in its proper time — Rains fall moderately (not oversaturating or leaving earth thirsty) on Wednesday and Friday nights (eves of Thursday/Shabbos) when people are home and inconvenienced minimally (demons are out, Shabbos restrictions limit travel).Excessive rain = curse — Too much rain causes mud and ruins crops; sin turns blessings away (Jeremiah 5:25). In Shimon ben Shetach's days, rains fell only on those nights until wheat kernels grew kidney-sized, barley olive-sized, lentils gold-dinar-sized—saved as examples of how sin causes ruin.Choni HaMe'agel's circle — When no rain fell until Adar, Sanhedrin sent for Choni. He drew a circle, stood in it, and swore by God's great Name he wouldn't leave until rain fell. He prayed for moderate rain (not the light sprinkle or torrents that followed); God responded to his merit. He criticized the generation's inability to handle abundance or scarcity, then prayed for rain to stop—wind blew, clouds dispersed, sun shone.Sanhedrin's praise — They likened Choni to Habakkuk (“I will stand at my post”), saying he uplifted a darkened generation through prayer, saved an “innocent” generation, and brought light to their paths.Lessons — Rain is a direct divine gift; balance is key (too much or too little = curse). Choni's oath was risky (could desecrate God's Name if unfulfilled, like Elijah's drought oath). Truthful, pure prayer brings results; merit can override a generation's sins. He criticized the generation's inability to handle abundance or scarcity, then prayed for rain to stop—wind blew, clouds dispersed, sun shone.Sanhedrin's praise — They likened Choni to Habakkuk (“I will stand at my post”), saying he uplifted a darkened generation through prayer, saved an “innocent” generation, and brought light to their paths.Lessons — Rain is a direct divine gift; balance is key (too much or too little = curse). Choni's oath was risky (could desecrate God's Name if unfulfilled, like Elijah's drought oath). Truthful, pure prayer brings results; merit can override a generation's sins.
