The kind of thing most people would be ashamed to still be thinking about 30 minutes later, let alone contemplating exacting retribution decades on.Studies show that the role you play in the school nativity can affect your life. And Alison is taking those studies very seriously. She was once cast as Mary - big gig - but forced to drop out after the director said she lacked focus. 30 years on, it's still something she thinks about. Born and raised in Nigeria, Dagogo Hart migrated to Ireland at an early age to complete his studies and now calls it home along with his young family. He is a poet, playwright, and spoken word artist whose words have wowed audiences from bar basements to electric picnic stages. He started performing in Dublin in 2016 in open mics and poetry slams, which saw him win the Slam Sunday grand slam and become an All Ireland poetry slam finalist. Since then he has performed for festivals like Electric Picnic, St. Patricks, Dublin Fringe, Drogheda literary festival, Cuirt International Poetry Festival, and First fortnight. He is one-third of the collective WeAreGriot - a poetry collective that curates art events around poetry. In our second episode of today. Elaine chats with theatre maker, writer and performer Ois O'Donoghue about her show HYPER. We chat the creation of the show, what inspired it and the importance of having the conversation round how Trans folks feel when it comes to the sound of their voice, the joy of relating to charcter on stage and much more. Hyper - Summerhall, Former Women's Locker Room Dates: 1 - 26 August (not 12, not 19) @ 20:15 (60 mins) Tickets available here: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/hyper Hyper An exploration of Trans identity and the connection to the voice. HYPER follows best friends and bandmates Saoirse and Conall. When Saoirse's gender identity shifts, they must confront the changing nature of their music and friendship as they prepare for their first live gigs following Saorise's transition. This confrontation forces Saoirse to explore deeper parts of herself in the search for righteous and rioitous Trans joy. Ois O'Donoghue Ois O'Donoghue is an interdisciplinary theatre maker, writer, actor and producer from Dublin. Her practice focuses on the exploration of the bounds of medium and genre, delving into the things that separate us and bring us together in an increasingly divided world. Her work focuses on themes of isolation, queerness and societal progression and regression, all from an Explicitly Trans perspective. Most notably, Ois created the new play HYPER alongside Jaxbanded Theatre. Alongside this, Ois produced The King of All Birds at the 2023 Dublin Fringe Festival, which would go on to win the George Fitzamaurice Award and be nominated for the Radical Spirit Award. Ois was selected for Bewley's Cafe Theatre's prestigious playwright development scheme Percolate 2024 -2026, a programme through which she is beginning the development of her next play SUPLEX. In today's episode Elaine chat with 2 thirds of tasteinuourmouth theatre company Laoise Murray and Grace Morgan. We chat making work as a new company, women in theatre & indeed the world. How capitalism and the wellness industry uses us yet we buy in to it and much more. You're Needy (sounds frustrating) is on from the 1st -26th August at Buccleugh Terrace. Tickets available via Summerhall Ticket link: https://tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/you-re-needy-sounds-frustrating You're Needy (sounds frustrating) tasteinyourmouth present the UK Premiere of their intimate, site-specific theatre show, You're Needy (sounds frustrating) - after receiving nominations for Best Production and First Fortnight Award during their sell-out Dublin Fringe Festival 2023 run. Skewering the dark undertones of the pastel pink wellness industry and the ways in which it plays on women's insecurity, You're Needy (sounds frustrating) invites one audience member at a time to the world of Carrie, who has retreated to her bathroom in the pursuit of wellness, solitude, and perfection. She spends her days taking long, tea-infused baths, and applying SnailMucusWhalePlacenta Face Masks (™), whilst living off of slim noodles and endless cups of coffee. Assuming the role of a support worker, audience members individually enter Carrie's world, and attempt to coax her back into reality and reintegrate her into society. Carrie's state of mind within You're Needy (sounds frustrating) is inspired by hikikomori, the Japanese phenomenon of young people retreating to solitude, usually within their parents' homes. The audience's position within this comes from the custom of ‘Rental Sisters', people who voluntarily visit these withdrawn individuals to encourage them to re-enter society. Created by tasteinyourmouth, performed by Laoise Murray and Heather O'Sullivan, with direction from Grace Morgan and original material and dramaturgy by William Dunleavy, You're Needy (sounds frustrating) is an uncanny, feminist, and intimate multi-disciplinary piece that explores how capitalism seeks to control women's bodies through the concept of ‘wellness'. This episode sees us welcome our very first spoken word poet to the podcast! Caoimhe Weakliam joined us to chat about the power of spoken word poetry after a talk with English students that was funded by the Strategic Alignment for Teaching and Learning Enhancement initiative from the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. In the past year, Caoimhe has performed as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival and Culture Night and has delivered two sets at Electric Picnic. She has also worked as a youth worker and creative practitioner, and her main aim is to create positive change in the world and to empower young people through spoken word methodologies. Also in studio is English lecturer and poet Dr Christa de Brún, and Sasha Terfous, a first year student (and herself a spoken word poet) who attended the event. The ILFD podcast is back! Kicking off with a listen back to Irish writer and comedian Marise Gaughan talking about her book 'Trouble' for the 25th anniversary edition of the festival in 2022. CONTENT WARNING: This episode contains strong language and mentions of suicide, sex, and substance abuse; it may not be appropriate for young listeners. __ Comedian extraordinaire (her words) Marise Gaughan invites you to forget your comfort zone ever existed … This event doesn't fit neatly into any category currently known to humanity – but then, neither does Marise Gaughan's darkly honest and excruciatingly funny form of comedy. With the release of her brutally life-affirming memoir 'Trouble', Marise is in the mood to tell you some tales. Part cutting-edge comedy, part book discussion, expect a decent amount of uncomfortable stories, definitely some questions, maybe even some answers. __ Marise Gaughan is an Irish comedian based in London, dabbling mostly in pain porn comedy (a phrase she should trademark). Her debut show Drowning premiered at the Dublin Fringe Festival where it was nominated for two awards. Marise is fine about not winning either of these awards. She has a weekly radio column on Lyric.fm and is a contributor to The Journal and the Irish Times. __ “Provocative, insightful, and often uncomfortable, but uncomfortable in a good way. When Gaughan interrogates her own personal experiences her scalpel sharp, dark comedy is at its most brilliant best, disturbing you right out of your comfort zone.” – The Arts Review “Raw, brutal and life-affirming – Marise has written a hugely important book that is as entertaining as it is illuminating” – Sara Pascoe __ International Literature Festival Dublin is a Dublin City Council Initiative kindly supported by the Arts Council. Ahead of the opening of Breeding at the King's Head Theatre, Barry McStay sat down to talk about his latest play and why he felt compelled to tell Eoin and Zeb's story. He opened up about the experience of working at the King's Head following his earlier play Verspertillio being part of the theatre's Plays on Film season in 2021. Forming part of Tom Ratcliffe's guest Queer Interrogation season at the King's Head Theatre, Breeding is a story about a gay couple looking into adoption and the real life challenges that come with this. As an openly gay man himself, Barry tells us about his own personal experiences coming to London from Ireland and developing work as both an actor and a writer that authentically reflected the realities of being in the LGBTQ+ community. In this interview, he also praises the King's Head for continuing to bravely tell unconventional stories that provide a platform for queer writers and actors that powerfully move audiences.Since starting his career, Barry McStay has performed on both stage and screen with his plays staged at the VAULT Festival, Dublin Fringe Festival and Galway International Festival. Breeding will mark the first time Barry has also performed in his own play but he insists the show is not autobiographical. Instead, he states that the show is his way of reclaiming a narrative that has been traditionally told from the view of heterosexual couples. A proud advocate for gay rights, stories and representation, audiences should expect to be wowed by his latest work which promises to challenge and entertain everyone who buys a ticket.Breeding runs at King's Head Theatre from 19 April - 7 May with tickets available now!

The show was created by director Lisa Fa'alafi and music maestro “Busty Beatz” aka Kim Bowers and they talked to Róisín about the joy of being disruptive and exploring gender, class and identity through art. Also on the podcast is dancer and stylist Andrea Williams, who features in the show in collaboration with seven other Irish women of colour reclaiming their narrative through dance, song, poetry and performance. Labhraíonn Alan Walpole le Seán faoina haistear mar fhear óg in Éirinn sna luathochtóidí, a shaol i Sasana agus an cinneadh a rinne sé teacht ar ais go Baile Átha Cliath i 2015. Fuair muid léargas ar scéal Alan sa dráma 'Idir Mise agus Craiceann do Chluaise' a chuir Aerach Aiteach Gaelach i láthair don Dublin Fringe Festival, agus faighimid amach faoin taithí iontach a bhí ag Alan agus é ag obair ar an togra le hEoin McEvoy, Ciara Ní É agus an fhoireann.

Tadhg Hickey is a proud Cork man and a proud Sinn Fein supporter – so, naturally, the Mario Rosenstock Podcast hotline was flooded with messages of support from famous cork people and also one from one of Tadhg's heroes, a certain Mr Gerry Adams. You can hear those messages at the very start of the episode. I'm a big fan of Tadhg Hickey – currently one of Ireland's great comic minds, Tadhg was a regular guest on my radio show on Today Fm and every time he was on we had so much craic, there was always a great spark between us. And that same sense of fun and devilment was definitely there when we caught up in the studio recently for this chat. Tadhg was an original member of the Cahoots comedy troupe, he went on to write and star in a brilliant one man show (which I saw at the Dublin Fringe Festival) called In One Eye, Out the Other, about his upbringing and addiction to alcohol, and then during the last couple of years he has expertly adapted his comedy to online and his short videos are getting millions of hits. He is very interested in politics, both domestic and international, and that definitely shines through in his sketches. Here are three of his own personal favourites:Loyalism but it's a house share in Corkhttps://twitter.com/TadhgHickey/status/1364864367121022977?s=19Israel/Palestine but it's a house share in Corkhttps://twitter.com/TadhgHickey/status/1384053088915398656?s=19Working Class Characters by Middle Class Filmmakers https://twitter.com/TadhgHickey/status/1396728768325210113?s=19Tadhg and I talk comedy, politics (he's a big SF supporter), drink and drugs and recovery, spirituality, and so much more. Tadhg also plays a starring role in this episode's exclusive comedy sketch – RTE's Brian O'Donovan meets RTE's Brian O'Donovan!I hope you enjoy this one. And please keep the emails coming in to mariorosenstock@gmail.com. I love to read them! I sit down with Jim Crickard on the rooftop of the Tara Building before his Therapy Sessions gig, as part of the First Fortnight Festival. We chat about poetry, Panti Bliss, First Fortnight Festival, Drag and Poetry and plenty of other great things. Jim Crickard’s poetry is camp and entertaining work with a sassy social-political edge. His work explores themes such as culture, sexuality and identity. In 2019 he was selected by Poetry Ireland for the inaugural Versify series, and performed to a sold out show at Dublin Fringe Festival. He came second in the 2019 All Ireland Poetry Slam Final. In 2018, he won the Cuirt Spoken Word Platform and was awarded a slot to perform at Electric Picnic. In January, 2020 he will be performing in Cork and Dublin with the First Fortnight festival alongside acclaimed poet, Stephen James Smith. He was shortlisted for the 2018 O'Bheal International Five Words Competition, and has work published in Automatic Pilot, A New Ulster, and Contemporary Poetry. He can be found on Facebook. With Being Earnest, I hope to create a space away from the noise of everyday life and distraction. I hope to offer a place, to listen, to share, to be engaged and hopefully inspired. Each week I'll be joined by sound people doing great things to have honest and genuine chats. I hope you enjoy Being Earnest. Thanks for Listening.
