Lorie Corcuera is a survivor of mental and physical abuse. Having observed her mother go through this with her father, Lorie found herself married to a man who was much like her father. Having escaped the cycle of abuse, she reclaimed herself and learned how to love the person that she is. Having persevered through the abuse and rising above the notion of trying to please others above herself, Lorie recreated her vision of what it means to be able to serve and love others at the highest level. Having done this, she created her company, Spark Creations & Company Inc. where she helps others create meaning in their lives. She teaches workshops on saying “no” and how to respond to emotionally charged situations. Our conversation covers a lot of ground and I found Lorie to be very vulnerable in sharing her history. Her courage is evident throughout our time together and her love of others shines through her lessons. Lorie is definitely putting #LITA into action! There’s some logic that can’t be overstated when it comes to workplace culture. Since workplaces are created by humans and their experiences, workplace culture is essentially human experience. And that means our work on workplace culture needs to start with humans: individual people who come to work with their complete selves, warts and all. This is the idea that gets Lorie Corcuera out of bed each day. She’s a strategic culture leader helping individuals and organizations make their work environments more friendly to humans, the world over. This means she spends a lot of time thinking about the importance of experiences, and how we can enable more positive, and even loving, connections at work. To this end, Lorie and her team at Spark Creations conducted a research project to understand the state and detail of workplace culture in British Columbia, Canada. The outcome of this is the BC Workplace Culture Scan Report, which hits the streets in early Spring. I had the opportunity to hear firsthand from Lorie about the key learnings and a-ha moments in the data gathered. We talk about this, along with our shared passion for people-centric workplaces, in detail in this episode of People at Work. If you’re looking for inspiration to elevate the experience of people in your workplace, give it a listen. About our Guest: Lorie's life purpose is to live WOW and LOVE completely. She's the Co-Founder & Chief Culture Officer at SPARK Creations & Company Inc., a training and development organization that inspires people and companies to create meaningful cultures and workplaces. Lorie and Matt are at the mic this week to talk all things love, acceptance, and company culture. Lorie is co-founder and CEO of Spark Creations, with a mission to bring more love and compassion into the workplace. Lorie works with teams and individuals to create company cultures that allow humans to feel more loved and included in the workplace. She began her personal journey 10 years ago, which led to her facilitation of women’s retreats. The feedback she received was that the conversation and connections that were happening on the retreats, are needed in the workplace. Lorie left her career, and began her work on bringing love into company culture. Lorie’s heart-beat-inducing project is her book: Love First, The Rest Will Follow. Her hope for the book is that it will leave the reader feeling more connected to their true love, themself. Listen in to hear why it is important to bring your whole self to work and why intention matters. “If people loved and had radical acceptance of who they are and they lived from a place of pure love, they can then share that love with others” Show Links: Keep up with Lorie: https://www.linkedin.com/in/loriecorcuera/ https://www.instagram.com/loriec8/ BC Workplace Culture Scan Report http://sparkcreationsinc.com/culture-report/ DisruptHR YVR https://www.thecorkercollective.com/portfolio_page/disrupt-hr-june-6th/
See Full Show Notes here: http://growensemble.com/spark-creations-lorie-corcuera/ Nine years ago, Lorie Corcuera co-founded SPARK Creations Inc. after going through a brutal divorce where she struggled to hold on to her identity and sense of self. After revitalizing herself, and defining her own individual values and purpose, she knew she wanted to help others do the same. While she and fellow co-founder Aileen De La Torre started with women’s retreats, their impact grew to a point where they brought their discovery process to organizations to help establish a more sustainable culture that leaves employees feeling more engaged -- not just in the workplace, but in the rest of their lives as well. Lorie is insistent about the concept of life-long learning. She insists against using the word “expert” because while she always wants to share what she has learned, she knows that she is still learning and evolving. This type of open-minded thinking is a major component of why she is so effective at this line of work, and how SPARK has been able to reach almost a decade of impactful work. What does an ideal company culture look like? What are the limiting factors that prevent organizations from getting to that point? How can leaders begin to reflect on their own personal values and belief system more deeply? These are the main questions that drive the thoughtful conversation within this episode.
Today on Celebrating Simple Life the Podcast, I’m chatting with Terri Sewell, owner of Spark Creations & Bookings. As a working mom, I often struggle to find the time and balance to cook healthy, home cooked meals that will fuel my family and myself and not feeling overwhelmed with the amount of time it takes to plan, shop, prep & cook healthy dinners. I’ll admit, I was skeptical when I signed up for Good food. I tried out a promo code and told myself, I would just order one box to check it out. Well, 6 weeks later, I’m hooked. From the first step of clicking to order, and than receiving the fresh ingredients and step-by-step recipes, it has all been seamless and easy. My mind has been cleared from the daily struggle of ‘What’s for dinner?’ and knowing that my meals will arrive on my doorstep each week, unless I choose to skip a delivery (which by the way, I can do as often as I want) We will be away over Christmas and I’ve already been able to make plans to skip the meals until the new year. You can even cancel your subscription at any time. There are so many recipe suggestions or you can make it even easier, like I choose too, by letting them curate the meals I get and every single one my family has tried has been delicious. The best part, is that my daughter, Cassidy has made a lot of the meals herself because of the amazing colorful and easy to follow recipe cards with easy step by step instructions.
