Jeff Jay was sleeping under bushes in San Francisco, physically deteriorating and contemplating suicide, when his parents found him through an unlikely series of events. What started as a simple phone call became the beginning of a 40+ year recovery journey, and eventually helped create the modern intervention methods that have guided thousands of families. Highlights What Every Family Needs to Know: The gentle question that changed everything- how one father's caring words reached his son when nothing else could (and why the approach mattered more than the words themselves) Why "they have to want it" isn't the whole story- understanding how motivation and readiness actually work in recovery, plus what families can do while waiting The doctor's straightforward explanation that provided clarity- a simple framework that helped make sense of addiction as a medical condition Real success rates for family interventions- 85-90% when done thoughtfully, and what happens with the remaining 10-15% Understanding the addicted brain- why decision-making is compromised and how this knowledge can help families respond with compassion instead of frustration How families can recognize their influence- you have more impact than you might think, especially when you know how to use it constructively What "raising the bottom" means for your family- helping someone reach acceptance sooner rather than waiting for more consequences The power of "doing this together"- why recovery works better when the whole family participates, not just the person with addiction When intervention doesn't work on day one- what families can do to maintain momentum and continue the conversation Why modern treatment approaches can be confusing- navigating the difference between treating addiction and treating other conditions simultaneously The trauma and addiction connection explained- understanding when to address underlying issues and when to focus on sobriety first How structured family recovery works- supporting your loved one (and yourselves) through the crucial first year The difference between enabling and supporting- practical guidance for families learning new boundaries What to do when you feel exhausted and hopeless- finding your way back to effective action when you've been through so much Why having an ally matters- the importance of not going through this alone, and how to find the right support Practical next steps for families ready to learn more- where to start when you're ready to try a different approach This conversation offers both hope and practical guidance for families who love someone struggling with addiction. Jeff's story reminds us that even in the darkest moments, the right kind of help- offered with love and clear boundaries- can make all the difference. If you're feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start, remember: you don't have to figure this out alone, and you don't have to solve everything at once. Kevin and Julie explore the transformative power of love in gospel teaching. Drawing from personal experiences, scripture, and Church teaching materials, they introduce the idea of creating a "love bubble"—a classroom environment where everyone walks away feeling deeply loved by God, by their teacher, and by each other. They reflect on how genuine expressions of love can shift the purpose of a lesson from content delivery to soul-deep connection. Through vulnerable stories, practical suggestions, and thoughtful dialogue, they challenge listeners to prepare spiritually, reframe classroom goals, and cultivate Christlike love—even for those who are hard to love._______________Subscribe for more free YouTube Tips: https://www.youtube.com/teachingrestored?sub_confirmation=1Find all episodes: https://teachingrestoredAsk a question for us to answer on our podcast: https://teachingrestored.com/contact-us/Join us on:✅ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/teachingrestored✅ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/teachingrestored✅ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@teachingrestored
It's been said that First John "is a masterpiece in the art of edification" (George Findley, 1909).In this series, we will see how the Apostle John exhibits tender, pastoral care as he calls the church back to the three basics of Christian life: true doctrine, obedient living, and fervent devotion. This week's message, COMMANDED TO LOVE, comes out of 1 JOHN 2:7-17.Website: http://www.rittmangrace.orgFacebook: Rittman Grace Brethren Church Instagram: rittmangrace Twitter: RittmanGraceYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaXPiaa4z3iZMA4DkCihtHg TikTok: rittmangbc
Join Kosta and his guest: Alex Lisic, Executive Pastor at Christpoint Church and Creative Director at Fufild. In this episode: Most of our listeners probably know you from your time at LifeChurch and now, Christpoint Church where you and Elizabeth serve as Executive Pastors. Will you tell us about Christpoint and what makes it such a special place to worship? Not to go too far behind the curtain here, but you kind of have two full time jobs. You're volunteering as the Executive Pastor at Christpoint and you're the Creative Director at Fufild. What is Fufild? How does it work? Why should we get it? As a country, state and community we're asking hard questions right now. It's a new day, but there's also a lot of work to be done. There's a lot of work to be done in communities of faith specifically. When you look around, and you think about the work that needs to be done, what do you want next for Christpoint and churches across the country? I grew up in a family where the default was just love. It wasn't perfect — there was a lot of messed-up stuff — but no matter what, people were there for you. There was a deep respect for family and a deep respect for unconditional love.I often think about how different life would be without that. A lot of people never get coached on right or wrong. But in our house, the default was you don't harm other people. You build people up.As I get older, I realize more and more how lucky I was. Despite the struggles, the default was love — and that made all the difference.
The singing parrots are desperately trying to keep us locked into the red blue duality. So much is happening, a brief hiatus is incoming. Sec. Duffy and the unfortunate nipple licking story. Using drones against the cartels is a bad idea for many good reasons. Some examples of subversion in ideological groups. DOGE has a paper trail too. Elon and some amazing data mining. The special signal is sent from our heart, and it should always be love. The bond that strengthens coherence. Don't fight the darkness, shine in it. The circuit loops in an illusion of choice. Don't charge the war. Step into the gap between yes and no. Change the game being played on their field. Triality reveals the whole game. It's spiritual mastery, being in the world but not of it. An echo room where every frequency entering leaves a trace. Thoughts charged with emotion leave a mark. Try to be more mindful. Real love breaks trauma loops. Confessions crack the system. History needs hero's, not complexity. Confessions go underground in private papers and memoirs. The future is defined by what we admit. We know who's financing the crimes right in front of us. Where are all the EO's coming from? It's all about the building of public energy and passion. And now is the time to buckle up.
Mia Love, who made history as the first Black Republican woman elected to Congress, has died at the age of 49. Love, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, passed away peacefully Sunday at her home in Saratoga Springs, Utah, after battling brain cancer, surrounded by family in her final moments. Love began her political career in 2003, serving as a city council member, and later became mayor of Saratoga Springs before becoming a U.S. representative in 2014. Despite a career marked by trailblazing achievements, she was known for her independent voice. She notably spoke out against President Trump during the 2016 campaign and in the years that followed. Her family released a statement celebrating her profound impact, noting her unwavering belief in the American dream. Utah Governor Spencer Cox paid tribute, calling her a visionary leader whose legacy would leave a lasting positive influence. Love's legacy lives on through her courage, leadership, and commitment to public service. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Love First Mentioned with Q&A.
Q: Do interventions work?A: Yes and no. Interventions come in two categories: professional and family led. Even interventions conducted by professional interventionists may fail if the subject of the intervention refuses to “get on the plane”. Often this happens because the family has somehow failed in organising its own part, or the intervention somehow provokes anger or blaming over past events. Nonetheless, professional interventions succeed far more often (defined as the subject agreeing to get help) than do family-organised interventions.Unless the family reads the same guidelines (such as Debra and Jeff Jay's book Love First), abides by the “rules” and rehearses the intervention, their chances are less than average. A failed intervention may lead to a serious rupture in family relations, including blaming family members for their part in the “failure”, when it was quite noble to try in the first place.
