A veritable beat scholar, Shoes articulates Sndtrak's talents and the joy of watching him dismantle a sample as well as anyone.Born and raised in East Oakland, Sndtrak is descended from a musical family. Louisianan grandparents on both sides played zydeco, a musical hybrid of blues, country, and Cajun music. His mechanic father DJed before he was born and always cued him a steady mix of '80s boogie from groups like Con-Funk-Shun and Heat Wave. House Shoes is a legendary DJ and Producer. I recently posted a video on the main channel all about De La Soul's Stakes is High, which was produced by J Dilla. A short clip from this conversation is in that video, because House Shoes put out the Jay Dee Unreleased EP, which features a remix of Stakes is High. Well today I'm bringing you the FULL conversation - we talk about his beginnings in music, the scene at St. Andrews Hall, some Dilla, His Record Label Street Corner Music, Fatherhood, a Crazy Story about the Secret Service, and just generally nerd out about music. You'll want to follow House Shoes online: Street Corner Music: https://streetcornerscm.comHouse Shoes on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/shoeshouseInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/houseshoes/?hl=en
He's an intergral part of the story, from Detroit hip hop to worldwide. He released J Dilla's first record, just released a new Mike & Keys record, Formula One, on the Street Corner Music. We talk about that and so much more on episode #155 of the Klyph Notes podcast. We open up the doors to welcome HOUSE SHOES into the lounge space to discuss the latest Street Corner Music releases, Flip Sessions, V.8 and his role as one of the premier tastemakers in the industry.
Join the PATREON House Shoes just might be one of hip hop's most passionate torchbearers. The DJ/Producer/record label owner was an early champion of J. Dilla, and has since helped shine a light on a slew of incredibly dope artists – Quelle Chris, Elzhi, Stro Elliot, to name just a random few – through his co-signs, his production work, and through releases via his record label Street Corner Music. Shoes makes a return to the show (his first appearance in 2020 got lost in the archive) and talks about everything from the business of running a record label to the key to putting together a great album to the reason why he still hasn't forgiven Bob James. Oh yeah, all that and some hip-hop trivia! https://www.questionshiphop.com https://www.streetcornerscm.com The Questions Hip-Hop: Instagram | Twitter Sean Kantrowitz: Instagram | Twitter House Shoes: Instagram | Twitter
Uncle Shoes swings by the podcast to keep the Detroit vibe going through the podcast. As we reflect on his time on the West Coast for the last decade we deep dive into the legacy of Bugz, Proof, Dilla, and he responds to Esham from last week as we finally put that to bed. In the end, its all love and business. Growth, entrepreneurship and having an ear for music is what we chat about as we navigate stories of Shoes DJing at his high school, to become a living legend, fatherhood, and what's up ahead for his label Street Corner Music.Originally recorded and released June 10, 2020.Show Website: https://www.bedroombeethovens.comShow will be uploaded at 12 Midnight Central following show releaseFollow us on social mediaFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/hlnfradionetworkTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/HLNF_BulletinInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/heartlandnewsfeedMastadon: https://liberdon.com/@heartlandnewsfeedDiscord: https://discord.gg/6b6u6DTSupport us with your financial supportStreamlabs: https://streamlabs.com/heartlandmediaPayPal: https://www.paypal.me/heartlandmediaSquare Cash: https://cash.app/$heartlandnewsfeedPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/heartlandnewsfeedCrypto via 1UpCoin: https://1upcoin.com/donate/heartlandmedia
An excellent track from the Fatima & Joe Armon Jones release. Quality beats from sndtrack on Street Corner Music. Hip Hop from Brand Nubian. Robert Glasper and Lalah Hathaway cover Tears For Fears. Check the tune from Brighton based singer and producer Blu Ernest. A peaceful anthem from Lonnie Liston Smith. Jazz Beats from Gee W. A big Broken Beat, House, Brazilian fusion tune from Nikitch & Kuna Maze from their forthcoming second album on Tru Thoughts. Plus plenty more musical treats.
Extensive sit down with Detroit legend House Shoes who provides his customary no bullshit perspective on beer, politics, beat flips, ownership, Street Corner Music, Danny Brown, 8 Mile, and much much more including thoughts on his favorite album of any genre - Mobb Deep's classic sophomore effort.
Real talk, in 2015 when vinyl was making a resurgence in the hip hop game I blind-bought a Clear Soul Forces record from Fat Beats and the production made my jaw drop. Turns out the whole record was crafted by producer NAMELESS who still vividly remembers his earliest days crafting instrumentals as a teenager growing up in Flint, Michigan during the late 1990s. What that means for me is I can now sit down half a decade later with him to reflect on Flint, making video-game beats while being compared to other producers, being the first act on Street Corner Music, and the rise and fall of Clear Soul Forces. He's come a long way from making beats with the trial version of Fruity Loops and we run the gamut on a myriad of topics that explain and document his 10,000 hours. For the debut episode of Renaissance Soul, we go into a deep dive of the album Big Shoes from Detroit hip-hop emcee Big Tone produced entirely by House Shoes, released on June 7, 2019 on House Shoes' own imprint Street Corner Music. Joining us in this deep dive is Big Tone himself to talk about this collaborative album with House Shoes, where their history together as both friends and collaborators shine. Through Big Shoes, we get a glimpse into the world of Detroit hip-hop spanning back to the 90s with all the ups and downs of a city that is always struggling, but always moving. During our deep dive into Big Shoes, we go track-by-track and talk about stories, meanings, and inspirations behind each song on the album. Through those stories, we also talk about the many social and economical issues that have long faced Detroit hip-hop, the city itself, and the black communities. This is another conversation that was on my bucket list. A conversation with a great storyteller, an individual who's connected with so many great artists. A member of the Portland hip-hop scene for a number of years, a great DJ and a person I call a walking encyclopedia of hip-hop history. On this episode he tells stories of interning with Kenny Dope, the time Questlove picked him up from work at Clackamas Town Center and releasing music with DJ House Shoes label Street Corner Music. We most definitely have to do a part two!! Peep the latest episode of Klyph Notes with DJ Rev Shines.
BANG! @southernvangard #radio presents the Tenacity interview session! It’s one thing to be an engineer and producer in this hip-hop shit - it’s a whole other thing when you’re nice with the rhymes as well. Now when we say engineer - we don’t mean some bedroom engineer type ish either. One listen to ANY and EVERY release on Street Corner Music is enough proof. Then take a listen to “Discussions” Tenacity’s new album with D.R.U.G.S. Beats and you really start to hate this guy! Kidding aside, we chopped it up with Tenacity for a solid hour as he broke down his history coming up in Ann Arbor, MI, making waves in the Detroit hip-hop scene (wait ’til you hear his Proof story) and his eventual move out West to chase his dreams. If the one and J57 stopping by to throw his two cents in - things get completely out of hand when the Jay Electronica & Rihanna stories come out. Stop reading this and press play already, and make sure you cop “Discussions” while you’re at it!
