You wanna see a dead body? All you need to do is listen to this week's guest, one of hip-hop's most unique MCs, Brotha Lynch Hung. Hailing from the under-discussed rap bastion of Sacramento, California, Lynch is the creator of his own unique brand of horror-centric rap music, which he calls Ripgut. Lynch's music is extremely popular in the Bay Area where we grew up, and while we may not be everyday listeners to the music, we certainly respect his consistency, hustle, and vivid writing style. For those unfamiliar with Lynch's output, be warned, it can be extremely graphic and maybe even a somewhat disturbing for the uninitiated. That said, we respect the fact that BLH has created his own musical universe, self-producing and releasing many of his landmark albums. This is one of our most unique interviews to date, and a must-hear for fans of Lynch's horror movie-inspired art. Speaking of horror films, that is the topic for this week's intro segment, as DBRP hosts Demone Carter, Nate LeBlanc and David Ma discuss their takes on the ubiquitous genre, from formative experiences as kids, to a predilection for psychological thrillers nowadays. In the outro, we dig deeper into the so-called "horrorcore" hip-hop subgenre, a style that is often discussed but one that no prominent artists seem to self-apply to their music. Along the way we touch on such artists as Viper, ICP, Esham, and a few others you may not be expecting us old head classical rap fans to mention. DBRP is mixed by Taylor Weng. Theme song by Cutso and DEM ONE. Brought to you by the letter 'S' which stands for Stony Island Audio, a gut-rippingly good podcast network.

They also talk about their preparation process and collaboration as co-directors. The conversation covers topics such as the power of reading movie scripts, the growth and confidence of filmmakers, introducing movies to children, the impact of movies on children, creating movie theater experiences for children, the nostalgia of physical media and movie discovery, the loss of tangible media and movie discovery, and memories of Miramax and working in the film industry. The conversation also touches on the importance of separating the art from the artist. In this conversation, the hosts discuss the impact of wildness and deviance in films. On this newest and long awaited episode, Maxxx and the Reverend discuss an often overlooked and forgotten gem of a collab album, 2005's Furious by the immortal Soopa Villains, comprised of ICP, Esham, and Lavel. This album was teased for years before its eventual arrival, and in classic supervillain fashion the album signalled the end of an era, as this was the time when it can be argued the "family" era of Psychopathic Records itself truly began to dissolve. They discuss Juggalo politics (wait that's a thing?) as well as happenings in the underground and chop it up as they always do, so come check it out.

Welcome to Hatchet Chat! In this remastered episode, we're going back to the beginning of the Dark Carnival with Insane Clown Posse's official debut album, "Carnival of Carnage". MC Lars explains how Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope take us on a wild ride through the carnival grounds with their signature blend of horrorcore and carnival music, via a saga that will eventually lead us up to the introduction of iconic characters like the Ringmaster and the Riddlebox. We'll also hear how ICP was able to get Kid Rock, Esham, and Capitol E on their adding, who added their own unique flavor to the album. If you're a true juggalo, you won't want to miss this classic deep dive into the origins of the Dark Carnival. Whoop whoop!

Today I'm gonna need you to trust me, but I promise you're getting a treat and not a trick. I'm closing Halloween with THE FEAR, a movie I'm sure most of you haven't heard of. But it has one of my all-time favorite soundtracks, and the movie is a genuinely good time. As an added bonus, I'll link to where you can watch it (for free) on Tubi as well as the Spotify playlist I made with a majority of the soundtrack below! How cool is that? Oh and if that isn't enough, I'm joined by Oliver Leach, who most of you know as beloved Twitter user and connoisseur of b-movies, @BAKKOOONN. In this episode we talk about how creepy the antagonist Morty is, how the movie gets points for doing something different in the 90s horror landscape even if it doesn't always work, Vince Edwards, 90s horror movies in general, the incredible soundtrack, Esham, Gravediggaz, and a whole lot of extra stuff. So give it a listen, or Morty will get ya'! Now get ready for a WHOLE load of links!Support the show on Patreon!
