Fire Chief Ryan McGrady of West Pierce Fire & Rescue, one of the most powerful leadership traits isn't about having all the answers—it's about being willing to be vulnerable. Chief McGrady discusses how vulnerability accelerates growth, both for leaders and the teams they serve. By acknowledging mistakes, asking questions, and being open about challenges, leaders make change easier to navigate and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Vulnerability also equips leaders to handle difficult conversations with honesty and empathy, strengthening relationships and helping teams work through conflict more effectively.A key lesson from Chief McGrady's leadership philosophy is that great leaders are also great followers. Leadership is not about being the smartest person in the room. Instead, it requires the willingness to listen, learn, and trust the expertise of others.

This episode of Prison Breaking With Sarah And Paul is brought to you by Hulu. Stream Prison Break on Hulu (U.S.) and Disney+ (Internationally). Sarah and Paul discuss the Prison Break season 3 finale, focusing on the emotional impact of McGrady's homecoming and the disturbing brutality inflicted on Sucre, including being forced to dig his own grave and nearly buried alive. They praise director Nelson McCormick's work, the intensity and realism of the beach/car-chase sequence, the act-five montage, and the Spanish a cappella cover of “Cry” over the ending. They analyze key character dynamics: Sophia realizing Whistler is tied to the Company, Gretchen's cold efficiency, Mahone being pulled into a larger conspiracy, and T-Bag's manipulations and uneasy hints of “loyalty.” Broadly, they reflect on how seasons 3–4 feel like a tonal demarcation from seasons 1–2, with faster, more fantastical action and a harder-to-connect Company narrative after losing human anchors like Kellerman, compounded by the constraints of a shortened, strike-affected season. This episode is brought to you by Hulu. Stream PRISON BREAK on Hulu (U.S.) and Disney+ (Internationally). Sarah and Paul are joined this episode by Mango, Sarah's Bearded Dragon. They emphasize the unusually large scale and expense of the production as the season winds into its final episodes, including extensive coastal locations, helicopter photography, ocean and boat sequences, and a long TV car chase. They analyze Michael's plan as accounting for human nature—especially T-Bag and Bellick's predictable selfishness and weakness—and praise the payoff of Whistler's “injured ankle” reveal. They connect the season's prominent torture imagery (battery/electrodes, waterboarding, later torture references) to the 2008 war-on-terror era and reflect on audience reactions to violence. They also identify an actor from Sicario, worry most about McGrady's fate, answer fan questions about directing episodes and hypothetical story directions. Huge thank you to Olay for sponsoring this episode as we get into all the things mom was right about (even when we REALLY didn't want her to be). From the lessons that shaped us, to the ones passed down from her mom, it's a full circle moment. Stream Prison Break on Hulu (U.S.) and Disney+ (Internationally) Chris Vance on Whistler, Sona Stunts, and Finding a New Chapter Beyond Prison Break Sarah Wayne Callies and Paul Adelstein open Prison Breaking with Sarah and Paul episode 308 (“Bang and Burn”), sponsored by Hulu, with banter about “facts” and fax machines, then preview an interview with Chris Vance (Whistler) and react to the episode's huge stunt set piece involving helicopters, gunfire, explosions, and a burning truck, plus the emotional Whistler/Sophia fence scene. They recap key plot points: Gretchen and the General launch “Operation Bang and Burn,” Whistler is ordered to kill Michael, Michael warns Lincoln via McGrady's father, Sofia discovers Whistler's “Gary Miller” identity, Michael stops Whistler's helicopter extraction, and Michael is taken out of Sona while Mahone spirals through detox. They flag the sudden, convenient tunnel reveal as a possible acceleration due to the writer's strike. In the interview, Vance shares his first U.S. trip to Dallas, the welcoming scale of the set, guidance from Kevin Hooks, filming the crane “helicopter” sequence, his belief Whistler truly loved Sophia, reflections on professionalism and empathy on set, personal hardships, health struggles, a brief Equalizer job, and his pivot to writing a 12-book historical fiction series to be re-released via his company Oratales. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in music has sparked a new kind of identity crisis for artists and the industry alike. When anyone with a laptop can generate a song in seconds, how do listeners tell differentiate between human-created music and AI-generated music? In this episode of Brand & New, guest host Rudy Gaines talks with Paul McGrady, an intellectual property attorney and the co-founder of Humanable (USA), a certification platform that verifies when music is created entirely by human artists. Inspired by his daughter's journey in Nashville's music scene, Mr. McGrady shares how Humanable aims to protect musicians, preserve royalties, and help audiences reconnect with authentic artistry. Beyond the legal innovation, Mr. McGrady also discusses his Nashville alter ego, “Uncle Paul,” and his mission to spotlight independent musicians through social media and community advocacy. Last month, Oregon became the first state in the nation to be verified for its accessibility for travelers with disabilities by the travel website Wheel the World. The company worked with Travel Oregon to assess hundreds of hotels, restaurants, tourism providers and state parks in seven regions across the state for their accessibility. That includes features like step-free entrances at museums or specialized wheelchairs available to venture onto a beach on the Oregon Coast. But the state’s efforts to promote its accessibility doesn’t mean that barriers don’t still exist for travelers with physical or neurocognitive disabilities. Small hotel owners and tourism operators may also lack awareness about best practices to engage with these travelers or struggle with how to become more accessible online and in person. To address these gaps, researchers at Southern Oregon University recently received a grant from Travel Oregon to develop and roll out training workshops at 12 locations across the state for travel industry professionals and other stakeholders. The training includes guidance on best practices and role-playing exercises where participants can experience, for example, what it’s like to navigate a carpeted hotel lobby in a wheelchair or to receive information during an emergency as a person who is hard of hearing. The goal of these trainings and the education they provide is to create a statewide network of “Accessible Tourism Ambassadors,” according to Pavlina McGrady, an associate professor in the school of business at Southern Oregon University. McGrady and Rebecca Williams, an assistant professor in the school of business at SOU, join us for more details. Ulysses McCready, a junior at SOU who is blind, also shares his perspective about inclusive tourism and the assistance he provided McGrady and Williams on their project.

When Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was elected to the papacy on May 8, 2025, he stepped into the metaphorical shoes of the fisherman worn by 266 men before him. Choosing a name that hadn't been held by a pope in over 100 years, he entered an office held by men with varied personalities, lofty goals, numerous agendas and projects. Learning about those popes only helps us understand this current pope, and when we watch what Pope Leo does, says, writes, and where he'll go, we do so in light of all the ones who have done things in the papacy before. This upcoming series of Ave Explores will take a look at the history of the papacy, and the work of the popes, from Pope Leo XIII at the turn of the century up to Pope Leo XIV today. We would love it if you could leave a written review on Apple and share with your friends! Editing provided by Forte Catholic (https://www.fortecatholic.com/)
The numbers don't lie - 2024 was a record-breaking year for charitable giving. But are you actually feeling it this year? And what does it mean for 2026?I talk with Wendy McGrady, President and COO of The Curtis Group, and Chair of Giving USA Foundation, to break down insights from the newly released Giving USA 2025 Annual Report. With giving up 6.3% and outpacing inflation for the first time in three years, fundraisers have reason to be optimistic — but also strategic. We unpack what's really behind the numbers, how donor behavior is evolving post-pandemic, and how nonprofit marketers can turn these insights into better messaging, stronger relationships, and more sustainable funding.

Katie and Tommy discuss the most hated practices people “have” to do during Lent. Is it fasting? Extra prayers? Almsgiving? They dig into why these practices feel so hard—and why we often dread them—even when we know they're supposed to help us grow. Plus, they share some personal stories, spiritual insights, and maybe even a few Lenten hot takes you didn't see coming. Katie and Tommy discuss how much we look at our phones, screens, and all sorts of distractions throughout our day, which means we are often unable to be seen by the Lord. Lent is a chance to be vulnerable, and allow ourselves to be seen by Jesus.
Tommy and Katie McGrady talk about how we can fully enter into Lent with a willingness to let Jesus work on our hearts throughout these 40 days, and encourage listeners to find something they can commit to that will help them grow in a distinct way. In this episode, I chat with Sheley Revis, a general internist and founder of the Fabulous McGrady and Friends Foundation, about the dog who changed her life and would later become the namesake of her organization. McGrady, a deaf, tri-coloured Australian Shepherd, was rescued from Ashe County Animal Control. Sheley had no experience working with deaf dogs but found McGrady to be a quick study, eager to learn with the sweetest temperament. McGrady worked as a therapy dog throughout his life, regularly working at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, to ease stress in travelers and airport staff alike. McGrady's legacy will live on through the McGrady Foundation, which advocates for deaf dogs and supports rural animal shelters in need in North & South Carolina.Resources: Content warning: this episode includes discussions of pet loss, which may be difficult for some listeners.
