WILLIE SUGARCAPPS collective musical experiences mingle together to create a new kind of organic and artisanal music. Born out of a music gathering in lower Alabama, Grayson Capps, Corky Hughes, Will Kimbrough and the duo Sugarcane Jane (featuring Savana Lee and Anthony Crawford)led to the birth of the band. The band's Self-Titled debut is laid back, it rocks, it comes from classic country, from the blues, from New Orleans and from the best kind of rock 'n' roll. It tells a story through five individual voices full of character and experience with humanity, energy and soul. http://www.williesugarcapps.com https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7LJCdwxhKg&list=UUm1zbKAEYGrIU-mHGFnDQjw BASKERY is a trio of sisters from Sweeden that's all about turning the music on its head, blending the straightforwardness of punk with the subtlety of singer/songwriting. The music is not to be confused with country or bluegrass just because the instrumentation involves a double bass, a six string banjo and acoustic guitar. In their late teens the sisters joined forces with their dad, who had been a one man band as long as the girls can recall it, playing old blues and country tunes for a living. This foundation of classic "roots music and Americana" settled in their hearts, but also awoke the urge of breaking the rules of traditional music. The band's latest is 'Little Wild Life'. http://www.baskery.com/
On this week’s episode, I answer a listener question about the hardest thing in my life and what I worry about the most. I think frustration is one of the hardest things in my life. First, I don’t want to come across sounding ungrateful or jealous. I see celebrities on YouTube with millions if not billions of views and I ask, what are they offering that will change your family for the better? Some of my friends like Wes Hampton or Sugarcane Jane are great musicians with a positive message. So how do we get people like this to have influence on millions? It’s frustrating to know that we have the power to change they world, and in ways we still are not. There was a time when Billy Graham was preaching out of a tent. Two words in a telegram to the newspaper—“Puff Graham”—changed everything. Billy never met the man, William Hurst, who sent the telegram, nor did he know the reason why. Now it’s hard to find someone who hasn’t heard of Billy Graham. What do I worry about? I don’t really worry about anything, but I have concerns. Am I doing everything that can be done to get the message out in my books? Questions for Listeners Do you have a question? Call in and your question might be featured on the show!
