Tune in here to this Thursday's edition of Breaking With Brett Jensen! Breaking Brett Jensen talks with Charlotte City Councilman Ed Driggs for the entire show, where they discuss crime, transit and the 2040 Plan. in the first segment, Driggs discusses the tension between law enforcement and civil rights, emphasizing the need for more visible police presence to combat rising crime in the city, especially Uptown. He also addresses the city's efforts to increase CMPD staffing and improve safety, while balancing delicate political considerations. Later, they discuss transportation, particularly the I-77 toll lanes north and south, and the potential expansion of light rail with the 1-cent sales tax. The conversation touches on the ongoing debate in Matthews regarding transit funding.Initially, the plan aimed to dedicate most of the tax revenue to rail, but the legislature altered it to a 40% allocation for rail, 20% for buses, and 40% for roads. This shift led to disappointment in Matthews, as key rail projects, including the Silver Line extension, were scaled back. Matthews' leadership has opposed the plan, while most other local representatives have supported it. Listen here for all of this and more on Breaking With Brett Jensen. The Guy Band is back together - it's like a boy band, but much, much older. Apparently Jay is not on strike any more, though it's uncertain if he was part of the rider's strike or the sad actors. In fact, he's hoping to get the Guys invited to the 2025 Comic-Con Cruise, since nobody else seems to be scheduled yet. Art the Birthday Guy brings news of Aquaman 2's reshoots, rewrites, and disappearance of a famous bat. And Robbie quotes James Cameron in the wake of all the chatter regarding AI, CGPT, and LMNOP. No doubt, listeners are hungry to resist part two of Robbie's interview with Roland Mann. Mr. Mann takes the true believer through his Silverline journey with slight detours through fairy tales and classic American literature all the way up to his latest Kickstarter. And his inside connections on how to get a comic printed quickly. (NOTE: The Kickstarter mentioned int his interview finished. there are ongoing at Silverline.)
The Guys dust off a oldie but goody as they bring back an interview with Roland Mann, comic book writer/editor/publisher of Silverline comics. Roland talks about his career in the comic book industry that started in a grocery story somewhere in 1970's Mississippi and took him to Marvel comics. But first, Robbie and Art hit with some Geeks of the Week that involve more Superman: Legacy casting, a sneak peek at Ashoka and talk of Jay's stand in solidarity with the various parties in Hollywood by boycotting the podcast. But someone forgot to tell him, he's not a union member or is getting paid....

It's been nine months since Metro CEO and General Manager Randy Clarke took the helm at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Agency. During that time, Metro has increased its bus and rail ridership from pandemic lows, and opened six new rail stations along the Silver Line. But challenges remain. The 7000 series rail-cars have yet to fully return to the system, rail ridership still pales in comparison to pre-pandemic levels, and a looming fiscal gap threatens the system's ability to maintain normal bus and rail frequencies. On the show, Clarke addresses each issue and speaks candidly about the future of the third largest transit agency in the country.

How will the post-pandemic recovery and recuperation be impacted by rising costs, workforce flux, burnout, and shortfalls? What about the compounding crises that are depleting resources and impacting supply chains? How will coverage and payor mix shifts affect the industry, and what about the changing competitive landscape with new entrants? How will rising consumer expectations and the expanding impact of digital technologies, along with consumer-driven shifts in care delivery preference and modeling, play a role? Will the demand for improvements in health equity be met, and what about the negative EBITDA trends? After more than a week of counting votes, Democrats are set to lose control of the U.S. House of Representatives. Yet, the party of President Joe Biden is also set to hold the U.S. Senate. Still, even in the House, analysts — and electoral conventional wisdom — had projected much deeper losses than what the party actually incurred on Election Day. That's thanks in part to Democrats like Virginia Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger holding strong amid tough fights for re-election. What was her secret to winning? And what might her re-election say about Virginia's political future? Also, Metro's long-awaited Silver Line extension finally opened this week. A vision that started as far back as the 1960s finally became reality. How was the occasion marked? What did it take to get here? And what could it mean for Metro's financial future? Will ask WAMU Transportation Reporter Jordan Pascale and Metro Board Finance Chair Matt Letourneau on the next Politics Hour with Kojo Nnamdi.

The Silver Line is opening at the tail end of the pandemic -- an odd time for public transit. More people are working from home than ever. Ridership is down more than 50% but slowly rebounding.
It's a day D.C.-area residents and more specifically Dulles International Airport travelers have been waiting on for years, if not decades. The Silver Line extension opened up to rail passengers — four years behind schedule. The six new rail stations connect the Metrorail system to Dulles International Airport and Loudoun County, Virginia. We also discuss the work left to be done: reducing crime on the system and increasing reliable service on bus and rail lines.

Episode 313 – Stephen of Anberlin is back on the show! And the band is back with new material! In this very honest and forthcoming conversation, Stephen gets into the conflicts that had caused the band to call it quits in 2014, his personal struggles in the aftermath, and how they reconnected and started the process of playing music together again. Recorded with close friend Tim McTague of Underoath, they recently released an EP called “Silverline”, the first of two that will form a full length record. Stream it now everywhere, and catch them on tour playing their classic albums all the way through! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We're back! And so are some of our favorite bands! Since we've been gone, Anberlin returned with a new EP titled Silverline, their first new music release in eight years. Nadia Alves joins Kiel Hauck to break down the release and why it feels so surreal to have Anberlin back in our lives. Then the two discuss the upcoming return of Paramore. We know there's a new album coming, but we don't know when. We actually don't know much, at all. But Kiel and Nadia read the tea leaves and speculate about what could be a monumental moment for Hayley Williams and company. Take a listen!
