In this episode of the Free Thinkers podcast, we're excited to be joined by country music legend, Dale Watson. In a world where mainstream country music is dominated by pop-influenced sounds and songs about trucks and tailgates, one artist is fighting to preserve the roots of the genre. Dale Watson, the founder of Ameripolitan music, is on a mission to protect and promote authentic country music and create a platform for up-and-coming artists who share his vision. For Watson, Ameripolitan is more than just a genre of music; it's a way of life. He believes that the roots of country music are deeply intertwined with the culture and history of America and that they must be protected and preserved for future generations. To achieve this, Watson created the Ameripolitan Awards, an annual event that celebrates artists who stay true to the traditional sounds of country music. In an interview with the Free Thinkers Podcast, Watson spoke about the importance of creating a network where artists can connect and collaborate to keep the roots of country music alive. "We're trying to build a community, a network of people who believe in what we're doing," he said. "We want to create a platform where up-and-coming artists who don't wish to compromise for the new country sound can belong and be part of a great network that brings back prominent roots music." Watson's vision for Ameripolitan is not just about preserving the past but also about creating a future for traditional country music. He believes that there are many talented artists out there who are not getting the recognition they deserve because they don't fit the mold of mainstream country music. "We want to shine a light on these artists and give them a platform to showcase their music," he said. But Watson knows that change doesn't happen overnight. He has been working tirelessly for years to promote Ameripolitan and create a community of like-minded artists and fans. And his efforts are paying off. The Ameripolitan Awards have become a respected event in the country music world, and more and more artists are joining the movement to preserve traditional country sounds. In the end, Watson's message is clear: if we want to keep the roots of country music alive, we must work together to promote and protect them. And with his Ameripolitan movement, he's doing just that. As he said in the interview, "It's not about us. It's about the music. It's about the history. It's about the culture. And it's about keeping that alive." While 47 U.S. congressional Republicans voted with the unanimous Democrats to codify same-sex marriage into federal law on Tuesday, the only one from Texas was Tony Gonzales of San Antonio - the rest, including the several who represent gerrymandered slices of Austin, voted against. Kaitlin Armstrong had her first court appearance yesterday, during which she entered a plea of not guilty. She's charged with first-degree murder. Samsung is considering a massive additional investment in the Austin area including 11 new chipmaking plants - a $200 billion spend that could create as many as 10,000 new jobs. Gas prices have continued to drop, now down to a local average of $4.02 per gallon - that's 20 cents below this time last week. The cheapest gas in central Austin as of this morning is $3.82. A new study finds Austin squeaking into the top ten most educated cities in America - the only one in Texas to do so. Austin history: Huston-Tillotson University has been registered on the National Register of Historic places, and the 1929 Hancock-area home where both Tom Miller and Emma Long once lived is likely to officially become a historical landmark via the Austin Historic Landmark Commission. Dale Watson's iconic coin-covered Telecaster-style guitar was stolen from a Houston restaurant's parking lot last weekend. Weekend live music highlights: Friday shows include Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder at the Haute Spot and Blackillac at Jester King Brewery. Saturday and Sunday the Float Fest is on at Gonzales Texas with Deadmaus, Vampire Weekend and Chance the Rapper headlining Saturday, and Marshmello, Cage The Elephant, Lord Huron, Tove Lo and CHVRCHES playing Sunday. And the Ripplefest heavy metal and stoner rock festival runs through the weekend at the Far Out Lounge and Stage. And, while blazing temperatures continue through the early part of next week, some relief may be on the way - highs in the upper 90's, by the current forecast, will begin by next Thursday and extend into early August.

Before The Next Teardrop Falls. Zach Schmidt termina con nuestra fiebre antes de despedirnos con Garret T. Buck Johnson is the creator of the Death to Tyrants podcast. Johnson describes the show as “anti-warfare, anti-welfare, pro-liberty” and himself as a “hardcore paleo-libertarian/anarcho-capitalist” and a “huge proponent of secession and decentralization.” The Texas native is longtime musician and has played drums for many of the roots, rockabilly, punk, and country acts in Austin, including with the great Jimmie Vaughan at many of the Ron Paul rallies back in 2008 and 2012. In normal life, Johnson is fire department lieutenant, but in dissenter land, he's a rabble-rousing rebel and an effective interviewer who has built quite a following by talking with an array red-pilled folks from diverse liberty perspectives. Johnson and I chat his “awakening moment” a la Harry Browne's classic book, “The Great Libertarian Offer,” his time in the League of the South, and the vital role that Southern tradition plays in resisting tyranny and fighting for decentralization. He discusses words and action, defines some important terms, tells us the origin of his first name, and even shares some breaking news regarding his popular podcast! We also discuss the Austin music scene, how wu-flu mania is affecting live performers and venues, and his friend and one my family's favorite classic-country troubadours Dale Watson. It was a wild and informative ride, so I hope y'all enjoy getting to know Buck, a true ally to the cause of sanity.
