Let's take a little trip back to the breezy days of the '70s and talk about a catchy tune that still sticks in your head: James Taylor's "Handy Man." If you were cruising down the road or hanging out at home, you likely caught this song blaring on AM radio, and boy, did it make an impression!Now, here's a fun fact: James Taylor's version of "Handy Man" came out in 1977 on his album "JT." This song wasn't just a one-hit wonder; it had a bit of history! Originally, it was a hit for Del Shannon back in 1964, but Taylor really took it to another level when he released it. In fact, his version zoomed all the way to the top and became the most popular rendition ever! It reached No. 1 on the RPM Top Singles chart in Canada, No. 2 on the Cash Box Top 100, and even made it to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. Not to mention, it topped the Adult Contemporary chart. It created a success story!And let's not forget the magic of that backup singer, Leah Kunkel. Her harmonies brought an extra special touch to the track, especially with those "comma comma" parts that just make you want to sing along.James Taylor's version not only won the hearts of many but also snagged him his second Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. David Fleming continues his exploration of the Titans of Soft Rock, Yachtley Crew, in conversation with guitarist and original member Tommy Bouy, known in some circles as Thomas Gardner. On a previous KVC-Arts we heard about the EP, Seas the Day, which was a collection of 5 covers, though with the Yachtley Crew stamp ON them, along with one original - Sex On the Beach. On this edition the conversation continues talking about the recent full length album, Seas the Night. Again, mostly covers, with one original written by none other than Diane Warren. She's a fan of the band. They're currently touring the new album with stops in our region.

The summer of 1970 arrived with uncertainty hanging in the air. Woodstock's muddy fields were barely dry, the Vietnam War continued despite growing protests, and American culture was navigating a profound transition between the revolutionary spirit of the late 1960s and whatever would come next. Yet amid this turbulence, a collection of songs emerged that offered something the times desperately needed: melodic beauty, emotional honesty, and a gentle soundtrack for processing change. The Three Musketeers at Mayfair High School, myself, Don, and Rod were becoming politically aware, and we watched the events in Vietnam as draft notices were not long in coming. Erschienen am 03. Oktober 2025 bei Republic. Unser Review. Taylor Swift präsentiert sich im vertrauten Glitzer-Pop-Gewand - jedoch ohne große Überraschungen. Ihr neues Album überzeugt durch solide produzierte Songs, die in ihrer Gesamtheit ein stimmiges, unterhaltsames Werk ergeben. Der Charme erinnert stellenweise an den Soundtrack eines Teenie-Musicals - leichtfüßig, eingängig und von einer gewissen Unbeschwertheit geprägt. Das mag polarisieren: Während es bei manchen für Begeisterung sorgt, wirkt es auf andere womöglich überzogen. Ein zentraler Kritikpunkt: Das Album wirkt stellenweise etwas aufgesetzt und überladen. Viele Texte kreisen um vermeintlich bedeutende, in Wirklichkeit aber eher triviale Themen - hier hätte man sich mehr Tiefe und Substanz gewünscht. Auch musikalisch fehlen deutliche Höhepunkte: Keine Nummer ragt besonders hervor, kein Track brennt sich nachhaltig ins Gedächtnis. Trotzdem bleibt unterm Strich ein solides Popalbum, das Swift-Fans sicherlich zu schätzen wissen - und das für die eine oder den anderen genau den richtigen Glanz entfalten dürfte. Bewertung: 4 von 5 Platten-Panorama-Punkten. (Martin) Nun also die zwölfte Era. Schillerndes, reichhaltiges Showbiz und zugleich sehr viel Fake, sehr viel Emulation. Eine Taylor-Show, in der Synthies wie Fakten durch die Popgeschichte marschieren. Der Versuch, sich neu zu erfinden, wirkt eher wie ein Zwang - und das ohne klaren Plan. Produziert mit Max Martin und Shellback klingt die Platte wie ein Querschnitt durch die Popgeschichte: Synth-Pop, Soft Rock, Disco, Motown-Anklänge. Nostalgie trifft auf modernen Pop. Der größte Popstar der Welt schreibt hier über sein Fame, Reputation, Erfolg. Nur wirkt Taylor längst nicht mehr relatable - dabei war sie das früher wie kaum jemand sonst. Die junge Taylor aus der Zeit von Fearless, Speak Now und Red hat mit Geschichten und normale Menschen berührt. Gewaltige Popsongs, die sofort ins kollektive Gedächtnis übergingen hat sie schon immer geschrieben. Doch hier fehlt dieser Funke. Nach der kräftezehrenden Tour scheint mehr Energie in die perfekt getaktete Marketingkampagne als ins Songwriting geflossen zu sein. Hits fehlen komplett. Ich hoffe, dass nun endlich eine kollektive Müdigkeit einsetzt - denn mehr Taylor bedeutet nicht automatisch besser. Mein Wunsch: eine lange Pause. Aber keine endlose – sonst steigen die Erwartungen nur ins Unermessliche. In zwei, drei Jahren dann ein Songwriting-Vlog, vielleicht die bewusste Wahl einer neuen Era? Dann könnte Taylor wieder zu jener Künstlerin werden, die wir einst so gern gehört haben - ehrlich, nahbar und mitreißend. Ich kann nur 2,5 Punkte vergeben.
