In this episode I talk to Tara Lewis, who is a founder of a non profit, that helps and mentors people from domestic abuse situation. She helps mentor abuse victim, as well as help them move on from that trauma. Tara discusses the importance of reaching back and helping people who are going through what she had to go through.

We've documented changes in restaurant consumer behaviors since the pandemic, including and especially the sharp shift toward digital adoption, which has clearly impacted everything from real estate formats to promotional activity.Another change has manifested throughout the past few years that is a bit more nuanced – the times consumers are using restaurants. In this post-pandemic environment and as historically defined in this business, breakfast no longer peaks during “traditional” breakfast hours. The same is true for dinner. Consider restaurateur Danny Meyer's recent post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “When did a 6:00 reservation become the new 8:00, most prized table of the night – and will it last?”Meyer's observations about dinner don't come without supporting data. According to Tara Lewis, Yelp's trend expert, diners are choosing earlier reservation times; in 2023, 10% of all diners were seated between 2-5 p.m., which doubled from 5% during the same period in 2019.

Beef substitutes Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat have really taken off this spring. Impossible’s first big breakthrough was at Burger King with the Impossible Whopper, followed by products sold through Starbucks, White Castle, Red Robin, and Little Ceasar’s, and grocery distribution through Kroger. Now the brand has partnered with Yelp, another company that has done well during COVID, to provide free Impossible breakfast sausage and free marketing help from Yelp services like Connect and Waitlist to top independently-owned diners across the country. Locally, Anchor Allies in Virginia Beach made the list of Yelp’s Top Thirty diners and will participate in the program. Beyond Meat took the opposite approach by gaining grocery distribution first, then restaurants. It’s now available at Dunkin, Carl’s Jr, and TGI Fridays. Yelp trend expert Tara Lewis says plant-based meats are a top trend at Yelp. This has been Strome Business Minute, presented by the Strome College of Business, Old Dominion University.
