Umgang mit Verlust – Ein Wortpaar, das nüchtern klingt – und doch in der Tiefe unseres Herzens ein ganzes Gefühlsuniversum aufreißen kann. Verlust bedeutet nicht nur das Ende eines äußeren Kontakts. Es bedeutet auch, dass etwas, das tief mit uns verbunden war, nicht mehr in der gleichen Form Teil unseres Lebens ist. Sondern aus der echten, zarten Kraft, die entsteht, wenn wir aufhören zu funktionieren – und beginnen, einfach da zu sein. Vor einigen Jahren besuchte ich mit ein paar anderen jugendlichen Freundinnen eine gemeinsame Freundin in der Uckermark. Da Sommer war, kamen wir auf die Idee, draußen zu übernachten. Die besagte Freundin wohnte auf einem Freizeitgelände, das einen eigenen Seezugang besaß. Deshalb beschlossen wir, nicht einfach nur irgendwo zu übernachten, sondern mit dem hauseigenen Floß (etwa 3 x 3 Meter groß) ein Stück weit auf den See rauszufahren, den Anker zu werfen und dort mit Isomatten und Schlafsäcken unser Nachtquartier aufzuschlagen.Mitten in der Nacht wachte ich auf. Über mir sah ich den hell erleuchteten Sternenhimmel – so viele hatte ich in meinem ganzen Leben noch nicht gesehen. Dort, wo es keine großen Städte im näheren Umkreis gab und die Landschaft nicht »lichtverschmutzt« war, erstrahlten die Sterne in ihrem vollen Glanz.Vor ein paar Tagen las ich in der Bibel den Tagesvers, der mich an diese sternenklare Nacht erinnerte: »Er zählt die Zahl der Sterne, er ruft sie alle mit Namen.« Gott kennt jeden einzelnen Stern dieses gewaltigen Sternenmeeres mit Namen. Wie viel mehr kennt und sieht er jeden einzelnen Menschen? Sie und mich persönlich? Denn einen Vers vorher lesen wir: »Er heilt, die zerbrochenen Herzens sind, er verbindet ihre Wunden.« Der Vers bedeutet also noch viel mehr, als dass der große Gott nur wüsste, wie viele Menschen sich aktuell auf der Erde befinden. Denn er nimmt sich sogar jedes Einzelnen an und möchte die größte Wunde des Menschen heilen: die verloren gegangene Gottesbeziehung. Starting with the gruesome mining of uranium by First Nation people in northern Canada, and continuing with the racialist culture of uranium enrichment in the Atomic City of Oak Ridge, in For The Love of Bombs: The Trail of Nuclear Suffering (Anthem Press, 2025) Dr. Peder Anker offers alternative perspectives. It's a story of how the bikini swimwear came to fetishise the nuclear bombardment of the Bikini Atoll with its celebration of ‘sex bombs' and (an)atomic ‘bombshells'. Our current global warming fears also harbour back to ordinary citizens wondering if atomic bombs would blow up the entire sky. After listening with interest to your tales of tinkering with Linux, and as Windows was getting on my tits, I decided to give Linux a try. I used a piece of software on a USB called Ventoy. It allows you to put as many ISO files on a USB as you want without committing to any one operating system. I tried about 5 live Distros over the course of a week. It really is a tinkering dream. Distro-hopping is so addictive. It's like setting up a new phone then changing it again! I couldn't believe how advanced Linux has become. In the end I opted for Bazzite which is based on Fedora but geared towards gamers as I have a big Steam library. Every game just works as soon as downloaded. As Gareth said, there seems to be a decent software store with everything you need - and it all just works. Thanks guys for giving me a little nudge. Looking forward to your Linux special. Norway is regularly listed among the "happiest countries in the world." It is one of the wealthiest too, and its not a country with revolutionary fervor. It's not France. It's not even Germany. Yet the Video Assistant Referee, known widely as VAR, has raised Norwegians' hackles. Organized fans have mobilized enough, and in enough forms, that the country's two professional leagues recently cast a majority vote to scrap VAR  - a testimony not only to true concern about the impact of VAR on games, a concern that I share, but also to the significant improvement in the quantity and quality of Norwegian soccer fanculture. It has made considerable strides in the land of skiing and handball over the last 10, 15 years.
