Most people might remember Ned Colletti as the General Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. But this most accomplished veteran was also a PR director and contract negotiator for the Chicago Cubs, Assistant General Manager of the San Francisco Giants, analyst on Dodgers' TV, New Times best selling author, instructor at Pepperdine university and oh, did I mention a scout for the San Jose Sharks? Yes, Colletti is one of a handful of people who have worked professionally in two sports. “First time in my life to think about ok, do I change a course, do I change a path?”Thanks to the consistent pestering from then GM Doug Wilson, a player he used to cheer for when Wilson was a stellar defenseman for the chicago Blackhawks in the 80s did Colletti finally said yes to.Ned Colletti remembers when Andre Dawson came to Cubs camp as a free agent in 1987 and he and his agent gave GM Dallas Green a chance to sign the great star to a blank check. “Dallas wasn't happy about it. He was being put on the spot.” But they signed Dawson to a $500,000 deal plus incentives and all he did was win the National League's most valuable player award for a last place team!Colletti also dealt with the notorious Barry Bonds. “ I found him to be one of the most interesting people I've ver been around. Very engaging when he wanted to be. There was a side of him the media never saw and he didn't care.”Colletti spends his time traveling, and a lot up and down the west coast and Las Vegas. Plus, there are his myriad classes he teaches at Pepperdine.”I wasn't a very good student in high school.” Years later….”I'm giving the commencement speech at Pepperdine!”Nearing 70, Colletti still loves what he does.”I'm on the back nine. I might be on 18, I might be on 17, I might be on 15 but I'm definitely on the back nine of life.”Considering what Colletti continues to accomplish, I'll select hole 15 and eventually meet him on the 19th!Hear his full story on the newest "Tell Me A Story I Don't Know" as part of the Last Word on Sports Media Podcast Feed. When interviewing Ned Colletti for my podcast I asked him what he hasn't done. The man has been part of management of three Major League teams, an NHL franchise, been a TV analyst, wrote a best selling book and teaches classes at Pepperdine University. All of this while Colletti tries to balance a a family including grandchildren while traveling from San Jose to Los Angeles and Phoenix. But what Colletti has proven during his remarkable career is he's a tireless but incredibly enthusiastic professional. The Chicago native began his career with the Cubs and ascended to PR director and contract negotiator. From there he became assistant General Manager of the San Francisco Giants, GM of the Los Angels Dodgers and eventually their TV analyst and currently his role with San Jose Sharks and Pepperdine. He's been involved with such luminaries as Andre Dawson, Ryne Sandberg, Harry Caray, Brian Sabean, Barry Bonds and Doug Wilson just to mention a few. Colletti might be most proud of giving the commencement speech at Pepperdine admitting he wasn't much of a student in high school. Cheryl Raye Stout as been covering Chicago Sports on radio for over 40 years. She's a pioneer who battled her way through sexism to eventually be heralded as one of the most relentless and respected reporters in town. During the hey days of the Bears in the 80s, she was yelled at by the team for entering their locker room.“The practice was in Lake Forest and we were at the old Halas Hall which was a very small room. That's when you realize you're the only women in that room. I was with that little group as the locker room opened. I started to go in and all of a sudden the team surrounded me and started screaming at me and calling me names!”But then quarterback Jim Harbaugh eventually paved the way for her acceptance. Along the way she constantly had to prove herself during a time when women were forced to do so. But when she was foisted into the role of producing a radio talk show hosted by the popular and late Chet Coppock, Raye Stout became bold booking Dallas Green as the first guest. He was the General Manager of the Cubs and it was a big get for her, the host and her career. Raye Stout cemented her role as a top reporter breaking the news of Michael Jordan's decision to retire and play baseball for the White Sox and then his return to the Bulls. She continues to cover every team and sports event in town for WBEZ, the NPR station and has no desire to retire. There's a good reason for that….she's still on top of her game!"Tell Me A Story I Don't Know" is part of the Last Word on Sports Podcast feed of shows. Sciambi has been the voice of the Atlanta Braves and Florida Marlins and happened to be part of the broadcast team that fateful night at Wrigley Field in 2003 . It was the “Bartman” game, game 6 of the NLCS when the fan appeared to interfere with a fly ball. It fueled the Marlins to win the series and ultimately the World Series. Boog now loves working regularly at Wrigley Field.“Just that view, the architecture and beyond the ballpark, it feels like you're being transformed back in time. And it feels completely brand new because it's so beautiful and so special.”Sciambi also embraces baseball's new rules to speed up the game although he's had to adjust to it working in a three man booth. He says the trade off of telling fewer stories while calling a game that has lopped an average of some 25 minutes is well worth it.Make sure to hear "Tell Me A Story I Don't Know" as part of the Last Word On Sports Media Podcast feed and follow/subscirbe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google, etc.!And stay engaged with the content on www.lastwordonsports.com/podcastsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

He says the trade off of telling fewer stories while calling a game that has lopped an average of some 25 minutes is well worth it.Hear more of "Boog's" story coming Tuesday!Make sure to hear "Tell Me A Story I Don't Know" as part of the Last Word On Sports Media Podcast feed and follow/subscirbe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google, etc.!And stay engaged with the content on www.lastwordonsports.com/podcastsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

While his career was so short, Pang's leap into the world of broadcasting has had a large impact. His insight enhances the broadcasts along with his sense of humor. And he certainly knows about goaltending. But Pang also has a keen understating of trades and with the NHL trade deadline passing last Friday, he offered his views on a Blackhawks icon wearing a new original six jersey. Patrick Kane was sent to the New York Rangers giving them an even more dynamic offense. Pang wondered whether Kane had something left having had to play for a team rebuilding and trying to end up with the worst record in the league in order to have a better chance at getting Connor Bedard, a generational type of talent. Pang said after Kane scored 5 goals in two games, wow! First, T.J. welcomes George Ofman from Chicago. The 40 year sports radio reporter there has great insight on whether Loyola-Chicago can make a run in the Missouri Valley tourney this weekend in St. Louis? Also, what about the crazy "anybody can knock off anybody at the top" Big Ten? Can Illinois go far? What about the likes of Purdue, Wisconsin and even Michigan to do some March damage? George also has his own podcast "Tell Me A Story I Don't Know," and this week it features Dave Revsine of the Big Ten Network talking about being with them since the beginning over a decade ago. Next, T.J. Welcomes Jason Powers of "Powers on Sports" podcast who is based in Tampa. The SEC tournament is headed there next week. What about favorites Kentucky and Arkansas? What kind of chance will Auburn Tennessee and maybe darkhorses LSU and Florida have in this tourney? Jason gives his insight into all of it. T.J. also has thoughts on the final game at Cameron Indoor Stadium for Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski, as his Hall of Fame career is headed to retirement. But, not before "Coach K" gets a chance to take out hated rival Duke, once more on Saturday night.
