Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill are joined by Managing Editor and Senior Writer at Daily Faceoff, Matt Larkin. The conversation starts with Carolina's Stanley Cup victory and the long road it took to get there. From there, they dive into Mitch Marner's postseason, including the absence of any post-game media availability following Vegas' Game 6 loss. Larkin weighs in on Marner's playoff performance, why he believes the star winger once again came up short when his team needed him most, and how he'll remember his run overall.Additionally, Larkin discusses the biggest lesson the Maple Leafs should take from Carolina's championship blueprint, why he believes Jay Woodcroft would make plenty of sense as Toronto's next head coach, his thoughts on the Joe Pavelski buzz, and why he's surprised Misha Donskov doesn't appear to be a serious candidate. Finally, he weighs in on the Leafs owning the No. 1 overall pick and explains why selecting Gavin McKenna should be an easy decision for John Chayka.
The Leafs' coaching search remains front and centre as we break down some of the biggest names connected to the vacancy this week. Things are heating up as Joe Pavelski's candidacy has come to light, Bruce Cassidy, Jay Woodcroft are names still out there as possible coaches as well.We also turn our attention to Edmonton after reports surfaced linking Mike Babcock to the Oilers. Given his history and the behaviour that has followed him throughout his coaching career, should Babcock still be considered for NHL coaching opportunities?Plus, more Leafs talk, coaching rumours and everything else making headlines around the hockey world.

Nick Kypreos, Justin Bourne and Sam McKeen check in on the Toronto Maple Leafs' head coaching search after conflicting reports on the team's interest in interviewing Jay Woodcroft and speculation around David Carle's asking price. Former NHL President, GM and head coach Doug MacLean joins the show (10:04) for Off-the-Rails Friday! Mac shares his thoughts on the Hurricanes' well-rounded performance in the Eastern Conference Final, the Canadiens slowing down, the Leafs' options for Morgan Rielly, the Blackhawks and Sharks shopping their top picks, and how Carolina would match up against Vegas in the Stanley Cup Final. Later, Nick, Justin and Sam discuss the coverage around Mitch Marner and answer your questions on the text line! Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning begin the second hour by discussing the latest in the Maple Leafs' coaching search, including Jay Woodcroft emerging as a candidate. Does his experience coaching Connor McDavid in Edmonton makes him a fit for Toronto's core? They also weigh David Carle's candidacy, the team's thorough approach, and how long the Leafs can afford to wait before hiring a new coach. The conversation then shifts to William Nylander's comments about wanting to stay in Toronto, his fit in the market, and whether the Leafs can build a contender around him. Later, Sportsnet.ca NHL analyst Jason Bukala (28:35) joins the show to discuss Ivar Stenberg's draft outlook, why his defensive game may be causing him to be underrated offensively, and how his World Championship performance has impacted his stock. Bukala also shares thoughts on Tinus-Luc Koblar's NHL potential and weighs in on the Leafs' coaching search and Carle's potential fit in Toronto. On hour one of Flames Talk, Pat Steinberg and Logan Gordon dive into the non-draft trade market following Nick Kypreos' first summer trade board. To no surprise, Blake Coleman is the premier Flames asset generating buzz, and Pat and Logan break down the heavy interest in Coleman from the trade deadline, and explain how a lack of salary retention stalled a deal. With Coleman heading into the final year of his contract and looking for long-term security, the guys debate if Craig Conroy should grant a four-to-five-year extension or cash in on the winger's high trade value. They also look at other potential trade chips, including Morgan Frost, and depth defensemen Joel Hanley and Brayden Pachal, who are facing a numbers game on the blueline. () Jonathan Davis from the NHL Network joins the program to react to a stunning Stanley Cup Playoffs development: the Vegas Golden Knights sweeping the Colorado Avalanche to advance to the Stanley Cup Final. JD discusses the undeniable John Tortorella effect in Vegas, Mitch Marner's dominant postseason performance, and where the Avalanche go from here. Plus, they dive into the coaching carousel with Jay Woodcroft linked to Toronto and Los Angeles, and evaluate Leo Carlsson's looming RFA contract situation in Anaheim. SiriusXM NHL host Steve Kouleas stopped by for a brutally honest conversation about the current state of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In short, Kouleas believes the Leafs' Stanley Cup window is officially closed — and that the organization should seriously consider a rebuild. He explained why he doesn't see Toronto as a legitimate contender right now, what they can learn from the surprising playoff run of the Montreal Canadiens, and why patience may be the only path forward.Additionally, Kouleas weighed in on Mitch Marner's playoff resurgence in Vegas, the Leafs' ongoing coaching search, and why Jay Woodcroft could make sense if the organization is truly pivoting toward a reset. He also questioned why a coach like Bruce Cassidy would want the job in Toronto right now. In one of the more memorable moments of the interview, Kouleas joked that the team the Leafs eventually win with is probably made up of “12 or 13-year-old kids playing major peewee right now.”Plus, he shares his thoughts on what Toronto should do with the No. 1 overall pick.
Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill are joined by former NHLer and current ESPN analyst Ray Ferraro. To begin, Ray weighs in on Mitch Marner's dominant postseason run, what's changed in his game during these playoffs with Vegas, and the Golden Knights' Game 1 victory over Colorado in the Western Conference Final. After some Conference Final chatter, the conversation shifts to the Maple Leafs and their ongoing coaching search. Ferraro admits he's not exactly sure which direction Toronto is leaning, but notes that Jay Woodcroft would make plenty of sense behind the bench.Later on, Ray delivers a blunt reality check for Leafs Nation when discussing the No. 1 overall pick and Toronto's offseason outlook. He questions whether the current core is truly close to contending and wonders what meaningful assets the organization even has available to improve the roster via trade. In Ferraro's eyes, a rebuild may make more sense than sacrificing future assets just to remain a fringe playoff team.
The Coaching Circus Deepens: Cassidy, Berube... or Babcock?! Dusty has the day off, so Tom Gazzola is pulling up a chair with the host of The Reid Wilkins Show, the one and only Reid Wilkins! Together, two of the best-connected media voices in the city sit down to tackle a fascinating, rapidly shifting day in Oil Country. The Ultimate Coaching Carousel: The rumour mill is working overtime, and the names are flying. We know Craig Berube is officially in the mix after Toronto granted permission, and we know Vegas is still playing gatekeeper with Bruce Cassidy. But what about the wild cards? Are guys like Mike Babcock actually a realistic dark-horse option for Stan Bowman, or is that just pure sports radio smoke? Tommy and Reid separate fact from fiction. Coaches In The McDavid Era: Reid and Tommy go back and forth, ranking Oilers coaches from 1-5 who've been in charge during McDavid's time in E-Town. Is Kris Knoblauch the best coach McDavid has had in the NHL? Where does Jay Woodcroft fit in this list? Taking The Reins: The fellas pull back the curtain on what the front office is looking for in a new bench boss and debate who is the genuine structural fit to unlock the "McDavid Window." WCF Game 1: While the off-ice drama consumes Edmonton, the Stanley Cup Playoffs march on! The heavyweights out West finally collide as the Colorado Avalanche look to maintain their dominant run against a stingy Vegas Golden Knights squad. The Oil Stream is presented by Boston Pizza!
Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill are joined by former NHLer and Morning Cuppa Hockey co-host Colby Cohen. To kick things off, Colby breaks down Toronto's blue line and explains why he believes the Leafs need more puck movers on the back end — comparing their situation to what Philadelphia Flyers have built defensively. He also stresses the importance of properly slotting players like Jake McCabe alongside the right partner, while admitting he didn't love the way Toronto deployed its defence corps this past season. The conversation then shifts to reports that the Leafs are willing to discuss anyone except Auston Matthews. Colby weighs in on whether Toronto can realistically address its needs on the trade market without moving one of the organization's core pieces, suggesting it may be difficult unless names like William Nylander or Matthew Knies are involved.Later, the guys dive into Toronto's ongoing coaching search. Colby shares his thoughts on David Carle and why he believes there's only a slim chance the Leafs can lure him away from Denver, emphasizing that money isn't the driving factor. With that in mind, he identifies Jay Woodcroft as a coaching candidate who really stands out to him for Toronto. To wrap things up, Colby discusses Gavin McKenna and his tremendous season at Penn State, plus whether he would take him first overall. While hesitant to make a definitive statement without seeing more of the other top prospects, Cohen notes that McKenna is “still a boy, not a man,” making his long-term upside even more enticing.
Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill dissect Vancouver's decision to move on from Adam Foote, and whether it effectively takes Manny Malhotra off the board for the Leafs' vacant head coaching position. Plus, they break down Jay Woodcroft as a potential fit in Toronto, and debate whether he could be the right guy to guide this group moving forward. Also, the guys weigh in on Chris Johnston's reporting that suggests the Leafs are willing to discuss anybody on their roster outside of Auston Matthews. Meantime, former NHLer and co-host of Morning Cuppa Hockey Colby Cohen drops by the show.
Montreal took a 3–2 series lead over Buffalo, in part, by sticking with Jakub Dobes despite a rough first period and a bad third goal against, a decision by Martin St. Louis and goalie coach Marco Marciano that paid off as Dobes settled in and the Habs rolled to a 6–3 win with offence throughout the lineup. Cole Caufield appears to have found his game, while Buffalo’s stars have been too quiet and the Sabres may need line changes and better discipline heading into a potentially chaotic Game 6 at the Bell Centre. Vegas eliminated Anaheim as Mitch Marner scored what the guys called the goal of the playoffs on an outrageous between-the-legs move, while the Ducks still showed major progress this season despite needing more defensive structure and experience. In Edmonton, the Oilers fired Kris Knoblauch just before his extension was set to begin after reports leaked the team unsuccessfully sought permission to speak with Bruce Cassidy, making the situation feel messy and leaving names like Craig Berube and Peter Laviolette in the mix. Toronto also moved on from Berube as new GM John Chayka appears focused on hiring a younger, more data-driven coach, with Kris Knoblauch, Jay Woodcroft and David Carle among the names discussed. Meanwhile, Vancouver revamped its front office by naming the Sedin twins co-presidents of hockey ops and promoting Ryan Johnson to GM, while questions remain about whether the Canucks can keep Manny Malhotra in the organization amid growing interest in him as a head coach elsewhere.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Confirmation that Milan’s Olympic rink has been accidentally built three feet short—an odd mistake Ray says won’t affect roster decisions, though the NHLPA’s threat to pull players if construction isn’t finished is seen mostly as pressure to keep organizers on schedule. In St. Louis, Jordan Binnington was pulled after two goals on five shots, leading to a heated bench moment Ray felt should’ve stayed in the room, but the guys don’t think it harms his Olympic chances. Washington’s six-game heater continued with a 7–1 rout of San Jose, but they face a tough balance between supporting Ovechkin and protecting young assets. Rasmus Dahlin’s major on Trevor Zegras was the right call, and the review process—and Zegras’ growing maturity under Rick Tocchet—earned praise. A healthier Leafs squad is grinding out wins behind a heavy third line of Nick Roy, Dakota Joshua, and Bobby McMann, who drove the result against Florida, while the Panthers look far from last year’s Cup winners as Toronto continues its road trip. Plus, in Ask Ray and Dregs Anything... should Brind'Amour have been considered for Team Canada? will Jay Woodcroft get another HC job? and a couple of amazing stories from Ray about coaches he ticked off.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Edmonton Oilers went into Winnipeg on Sunday night and delivered a massive 4-1 win over the league-leading Jets. It was a complete effort from a team that continues to battle through injuries and adversity late in the season. With home-ice advantage in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs still in reach, the Oilers showed they're not backing down, even without a fully healthy roster. From the drop of the puck, they took control of the game and never really looked back.Scoring came from all throughout the lineup, with goals from Connor Brown, Corey Perry, Adam Henrique, and Viktor Arvidsson. It was the kind of depth production the Oilers will need in the postseason, and last night proved this group can step up when needed. Connor McDavid continued his torrid pace since returning from injury, playing a key role in the team's offensive success once again. He looked confident and dangerous every time he touched the puck. The win also marked the return of Stuart Skinner, who hadn't started since March 26th against the Dallas Stars. He wasn't overly busy, but he was sharp when called upon, stopping 24 of 25 shots and making a strong case to be the Game 1 starter for the Oilers in the playoffs. With Calvin Pickard playing well in Skinner's absence, the Oilers are now faced with a tough but positive decision in net.On today's episode of Oilersnation Everyday, Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin will break down last night's huge win with a full scoring summary, their one big take, and the Sherwood Ford Giant Question. They'll also preview tonight's massive showdown against the LA Kings at Rogers Place — a game that has huge implications in the Pacific Division and could be a preview of the first round.Plus, Louie DeBrusk will join the show for his weekly segment to share his thoughts on the Oilers' current injury luck, the team's recent form, and how Jay Woodcroft and his staff might approach the goaltending decision moving forward. We're continuing to make our way through potential Philadelphia Flyers head coaching candidates, looking at a few “retread” options today in Jay Woodcroft, Luke Richardson, and Joel Quenneville.Plus, Charlie, Kelly & Bill look back at their preseason predictions for Flyers leading scorer, MVP, and best d-man, and discuss why basically none of their predictions came true.
Ryan Gilbert and Steve Jacot discuss whether Philadelphia Flyers interim head coach Brad Shaw should be the guy next season or if Danny Briere and Keith Jones should look for new blood in the form of Jay Woodcroft, David Carle, or other options.
It's game day for the Edmonton Oilers with the New York Islanders in town, which meant there was plenty to talk about on the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. On today's podcast, we looked at the Oilers' 7-3 win over the Canucks, what to expect from the New York Islanders, Brett Kulak's strong start, and more.We started the Tuesday podcast episode by discussing which team we enjoy watching the Oilers beat the most and why. Whether it's laughing at Canucks fans because of how annoying the fanbase can be or Toronto for the way they think they're better than everyone else, it was fun to try and figure out which team is the most annoying. Flipping the question, are there any teams that the boys don't mind losing to?Moving along, we looked back at the anniversary of Jay Woodcroft being fired and Kris Knoblauch coming in. Seeing as the boys were in Seattle on a Nation Vacation when Woodcroft was fired, everyone gave their take on what life's been like in the year since that coaching change. Back to the current team, the boys also spent some time talking about Evan Bouchard's struggles and how Oilers fans are looking for a whole lot more from their first pairing defenceman. Finally, the squad wrapped up the Tuesday podcast with some betting talk, keys to victory for beating the Islanders, and offered up a score prediction ahead of tonight's game at Rogers Place. Given that the Oilers and Islanders are both working through varying struggles, their first of two meetings on the season could be a low scoring affair. That said, this game could also be one where the special teams play a major factor given that both sides are struggling on both the PP and the PK.
To start off the second hour, Darren Dreger joined the boys! He shared his thoughts on the Oilers play without Connor McDavid. Also touched on the Canucks Demko situation. And finished with his thoughts on the struggling Nashville Predators... In the middle of the hour, the boys made an Oilers, Devils parlay for tonights game, this was presented Coolbet Canada. We then qualified another lucky listener for a chance to Fly Away to L.A. presented by The Seven Eighty. In the middle of the second hour, we heard from Mike Tanier from Too Deep Zone. He touched on the big stories coming out of week 9. We finished off the second hour, diving into 'The Fan Zone' presented by FansFirst. In this segment, we touched on Jay Woodcroft still not being a coach in the NHL.
We are edging closer to the start of the regular season with the Oilers back on the camp for the 2025 training camp. Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin go live at noon today for Oilersnation Everyday to discuss everything coming from the camp. You can get your thoughts on the show by leaving your comments in the Greta Bar YEG YouTube live chat throughout the program. The guys strongly encourage that you interact with them and the other Nation Citizens in the live chat.First up, we're breaking down key quotes from the opening days of Edmonton Oilers training camp. From player updates to insights from coaches, we're getting you up to speed on everything happening on the ice. Then in "What's Trending", there's plenty of buzz around the NHL and beyond! We'll talk about Oilers' coach Jay Woodcroft receiving an unexpected invite to the Philadelphia Flyers' camp, and GM Ken Holland heading to Columbus' camp. Plus, we'll laugh about James Duthie's fun reply to a tweet that had social media buzzing.Reports also started to swirl around the other day about possible expansion in the NHL. Is that a good idea or should the NHL focus on other projects? Tyler and Liam will discuss it on the today's show and where they could possible land if the league expand. Switching gears, we'll take a look at the NFL's Thursday Night Football game—one of the most lackluster matchups we've seen. Was it as boring as everyone says? We'll vent our thoughts. Finally, we touch on one of the biggest stories in baseball. Shohei Ohtani is making history yet again, setting new records and redefining what it means to be a superstar in the MLB.

Locked On Penguins - Daily Podcast On The Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins made a big announcement on Friday, announcing the firing of Todd Reirden. Hunter and Pat start the show by breaking down the firing and how the Penguins had no choice but to do this. They analyze how badly the power play was (yet again) and discuss how this could make some of the core a bit uncomfortable, (which is good!). After that, they discuss how this should put the "rift" rumors between Sullivan and Dubas to bed. They then look at who could replace Reirden on the bench, including Jay Woodcroft. Hunter details what he was great at during his time in Edmonton and how he coached up a really good power play before he got let go. Pat then gives another option for who the Penguins could bring in before they end the show with some playoff talk.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Monopoly GO!Get in the game and join your friends. Chris and Tommy are welcomed by new Drop the Mitts member Zack Williams who brings a ton of hockey knowledge to the table. The boys try to answer "What is happening in Edmonton?" Earlier this week Jay Woodcroft was fired and replaced with Kris Knoblauch. The Buffalo Sabres will be missing Tage Thompson for a significant amount of time. Patrick Kane met with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday which was pretty puzzling to the boys as to how that is a fit. Has Mason Lohrei done enough with his opportunity to stay with the Boston Bruins and the Rangers stay red hot even without Adam Fox and Igor Shesterkin.
