Brandon Schwartz from Schwartz Law Firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota, shares his thoughts on what "addicted to winning" means to him - striving to be the best in all aspects of life, supported by his competitive nature from playing sports and growing up with business-owner parents. He also discusses the transition from hockey to law, the trend of false discrimination and harassment claims, and how employers are trying to balance working from home with going into the office. He talks about his dream dinner with two historical and military role models and the need for people to look for ways to succeed rather than looking for reasons to fail, before detailing the firm's focus on relationships over transactions. Key Lessons Brandon Schwartz has transitioned from hockey to law and has learned to balance his competitive nature with his business background. Discrimination and harassment claims are becoming more frequent, forcing employers to find a balance between working from home and going into the office. Schwartz Law Firm focuses on relationships over transactions and encourages people to look for ways to succeed rather than looking for reasons to fail. Summary Brandon Schwartz shares his thoughts on what "addicted to winning" means to him. He believes it's an attitude to strive to be the best in every aspect of one's life and he attributes his competitive nature to playing sports, growing up with business-owner parents, and seeing them work hard to provide for their family. Hockey players who recognize and learn from others are more likely to be successful Through hard work and a team-oriented mentality, one can achieve success even if they are not the most talented. This was proven by the leading point scorer of the ECHL team in 2008, who had 16 goals and 36 assists. Former NHL player Thomas Vanning describes his transition from playing hockey to law, noting that the competitive drive and thinking steps ahead of opponents that hockey requires is also true of litigation He loves the law and the competitive nature of litigation, which made the transition relatively easy. Jeff discusses the importance of preparation in legal cases and visualization in athletics. He also talks about the trend of false discrimination and harassment claims, and how employers are struggling to find quality workers and protect their data while allowing employees to work from home Employers are trying to figure out how to balance working from home with going into the office. HR should be tailored to the company and not be one-size-fits-all. Brandon works with his dad and stepmom in their family law firm, and his dad has taught him to understand the importance of why he's doing something, and not just simply doing it. Schwartz Law Firm is built on referrals and works tirelessly to ensure the best outcome for its clients. Founder Martin Schwartz and his son Brandon have a strong belief in their ability to deliver and work together to ensure the best results. They have mutual respect and often have lunch together to discuss cases. focuses his law firm on closely-held business disputes, construction litigation, family law, contract negotiation/drafting, and personal injury. He is licensed in Minnesota, Iowa, Arizona, and the US Supreme Court. He would use an hour of his time to spend with family, then his two grandpas who developed Irish Spring and worked for Bell Mobile. Brandon talks about his dream dinner with two historical and military role models, his appreciation for Martin's positive attitude, and the importance of fighting fair and shaking hands afterward. He also recognizes the negative effects of keyboard mentality, and the need for people to look for ways to succeed rather than looking for reasons to fail. Brandon from Schwartz Law Firm, a Minneapolis-based law firm, shares how to get in contact with them for legal services. Connect With Brandon: Schwartz Law Firm How To Get Involved: Addicted to Winning connects listeners through stories that prove why mindset matters. Jeff Brekken was working a 60-hour week on his family's farm by the time he was 10. When he wasn't helping with the harvest, he was at the hockey rink. Jeff's early life experiences taught him he needs to be either all-in or all-out. In 2000 he started a single-family home construction business and by 2008 he was looking for the next big thing. Regular R&D podcast contributor, and former NHL GM, Dave Nonis joins the show just in time for the trade deadline! Plus, the monumental change that instant video review brought to the game, and dealing with the ‘soul crushing' reality of social media. In Headlines, the guys discuss a couple of minor-looking deals that might set the stage for something major. Ottawa Senators/Vegas Golden Knights' cap maneuvers ahead of NEXT WEEK'S NHL trade deadline, prolonged sitting of key players for ‘trade-related' reasons, and is Patrick Kane's hot-streak enough to silence questions on his health? After Ryan O'Reilly tallied a hat-trick (scoring a quarter of the goals he'd scored all season in one night), the guys talk chemistry with new Maple Leafs teammates, and credit due to Mitch Marner for once again proving he is an elite playmaker. Betano's Kris Abbott was away today, likely spending his winnings from the one time he bet on the Leafs and won. The guys take a look at the (rightfully) low odds at anyone not named McDavid winning the Hart Trophy, and the race for the Calder trophy with Matty Beniers leading the rookie category thus far. I met Justin at a fitness summit in October 2021 in Austin Texas. We both attended HPLT which brought together people from all over the country to connect, workout, learn from industry professionals and raise each other up over the course of the weekend. Justin and I immediately hit it off with similar thought processes and approaches to life, training and overall work ethic. We stayed in touch and I had the pleasure of meeting his wife when we all went out for a meal of food. They moved to Miami and we were able to connect more over the course of some time through events, lunches, workouts, plunges, fitness comps and hockey games. What sets Justin apart from most successful entrepreneurs is his ability to serve and give back without anything in return. He is the first to pick up a phone and reach out to help with life, business or anything he is able to connect people to through his network. He approaches each day with an amazing routine that starts off with his time with God. Morning prayer, meditation, reflection and gratitude. Without fail he starts every day with this routine and then goes into some form of sweat that includes lifting weights, cycling, running, swimming or a combination of all and then into a sauna and plunge to relax. He and his wife Alyse then jump right into their day working with others, coaching, phone calls and making arrangements for events throughout the year. We sat down in his office down in Miami after working out and waking up the sun to learn more about his version of success and what has worked for him. We learned more about his rock bottom and how he sought out more in his spiritual, physical and emotional well being to be a steward to others. Please enjoy the show and connect with Justin @justinroeth, @ownit.coaching @ownitsystem so you too can do health differently, live life differently and achieve maximum growth.

Dave Nonis spent 24 years in NHL front offices, including serving as GM of the Vancouver Canucks, and Toronto Maple Leafs. Nonis kicks off regular appearances on the Ray and Dregs Hockey podcast as our feature guest this week! Nonis and the guys discussed the BLAZING hot New Jersey Devils, and their streak putting them squarely in playoff position. Reflecting on his time in Vancouver, Dave talked knowing when a coach had “lost the room”, and when to make a change vs. staying patient with your team. He discussed working with Brian Burke, and the late Pat Quinn, and the development of a trade over time. Plus, current cap-strapped NHL teams and how hard it is to make moves being up against the cap. Headlines covers the keys to the Devils' ridiculous 13-game ‘heater', and Dregs talks GM Tom Fitzgerald's willingness to add a piece. A 7-game St. Louis Blues winning streak helping them hit the reset button, the Ottawa Senators on the opposite side of things, and Malkin/Bergeron's outstanding achievements are also discussed. Plus, Jason Robertson and Mitch Marner's point-streaks, with Robertson getting some due recognition as a superstar in a non-traditional hockey market. Kris Abbott joins the show and takes some heat as his NFL picks record dips below .500. A MASSIVE World Cup upset, and the sports books relishing the historic upset after having to dish out payouts in Group Stage action. Goaltending is a hot topic as Canucks' Thatcher Demko's numbers rank amongst the league's worst, and the Buffalo Sabres shaky goaltending tandem is considered as part of the reason they've struggled lately. Former NHL goalie Scott Darling's stand-up comedy career takes some heat as Darling ripped into the city of St. Louis. Kris Abbott joined the podcast from Betano's headquarters in Greece.
