Theory Continues: 2026 NFC East

We're breaking down the NFC East in this episode of The Prophet Playoff Theory — We start with the Dallas Cowboys, who completely overhauled the defensive side of the ball after major struggles last season. Can all these new pieces finally give Dallas the defense it needs to complement what was one of the NFL's best offenses? Then we head to New York, where John Harbaugh takes over as head coach. The Giants have plenty of optimism surrounding the new regime, but the Prophets have questions about Matt Nagy running the offense and what that means for Jaxson Dart's development. Can Harbaugh get the Giants back into playoff contention immediately? The Philadelphia Eagles are chasing a third straight NFC East division title. But with the A.J. Brown traded and changes around the offense, we have to ask: does losing Brown actually make this offense better, or is Philadelphia taking a major step backward? And finally, the Washington Commanders. Kev isn't exactly a believer — but out of respect for Jayden Daniels, the Prophets are giving Washington somewhere in the 7-to-9 win range. But could this season completely go off the rails if Daniels can't stay healthy and the team doesn't take the expected step forward?Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/preach-kev-preach-w-rashad--2977392/support.

Giants Cornerback Problem Comes With a Major Risk

The Giants need answers at cornerback, but how far should they be willing to go to find one? New York's injuries, uncertainty between Paulson Adebo and Deonte Banks, and the visit with Terrion Arnold created a much bigger debate about where football need ends and unacceptable risk begins.Follow on Spotify and leave a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts if you enjoy no-BS Giants debate. How serious is the Giants' cornerback problem? The unofficial depth chart still lists Adebo ahead of Banks, but the practice usage discussed in this episode suggests the competition may be considerably closer than the chart makes it look—and injuries throughout the secondary only increase the pressure.A large part of the conversation centers on Arnold's visit. Arnold currently faces unresolved felony charges tied to serious allegations, and the discussion stays centered on the uncertainty surrounding the legal process, the risk involved for the Giants and what the visit itself says about their current level of concern at corner. The Giants have not signed him.Does merely exploring that option tell us more about the state of the Giants' secondary than the depth chart does? The first unofficial depth chart created several other contradictions. Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeaux share an OR designation even though Carter has been getting the first-team work discussed on the show. Odell Beckham Jr. sits in the third tier at wide receiver and now has a preseason opportunity to prove his receiving value can outweigh his lack of a significant special-teams role.Matt Nagy also gave us one of the night's more concerning quotes when he said the Giants are only halfway through both their run and pass installation. The positive side is that Nagy praised Jaxson Dart's command of what has already been installed. The concern is obvious: how comfortable should Giants fans be with that much of the offense still being built this close to the season? We also get into Darius Alexander's goal of becoming the NFL's most dominant defensive tackle, Malik Nabers' progress, the possibility of Dart and other starters seeing preseason snaps, Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr., the Ben Sauls–Dominic Zvada kicker competition, and Brandon Allen's bizarre place atop the preseason passing-yard leaderboard over the last decade.Merch: https://2giantgoofballs-shop.fourthwall.com/ Support: https://buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballs All episodes: https://2giantgoofballs.buzzsprout.com/Send us Fan MailSupport the show

The Yankees' offensive struggles are putting enormous pressure on a bullpen that simply cannot get enough rest. Shaun Morash and Tiki Barber explain why Fernando Cruz, David Bednar and the rest of the relief corps keep getting forced into meaningful innings, while the lineup's lack of aggression on the bases only adds to the frustration. The conversation then shifts to Jaxson Dart and the Giants' new offense. A caller questions whether Brian Daboll might have been better suited for Dart's development, but Shaun clarifies that his real concern is whether Matt Nagy will adapt the system to fit Dart if the offense struggles early.

Matt Nagy's handling of Jaxson Dart becomes the biggest concern as Shaun Morash and Tiki Barber dig into what the Giants offense could look like. Tiki expects a physical, run-heavy attack built to protect Dart, while Shaun worries Nagy could become too committed to his own system if the offense struggles. Greg Roman's influence and the potential for competing offensive philosophies also enter the debate. The optimism around the Giants is still growing. Tiki believes the roster has enough talent to compete for a playoff spot if Dart stays healthy and continues developing, though major questions remain in the secondary and elsewhere. They also debate Dart's franchise-quarterback timeline, Eli Manning's Hall of Fame case and just how high expectations should climb this season.

Laremy Tunsil's devastating injury could completely shift the Giants' outlook against Washington. Shaun Morash is in for Evan Roberts alongside Tiki Barber, and they believe New York now has a legitimate edge over the Commanders, whose shaky offensive line could leave Jayden Daniels vulnerable. Tiki even agrees Dan Quinn could be closer to losing his job than returning Washington to the playoffs. The Giants optimism comes with one major concern: how Matt Nagy handles Jaxson Dart. Tiki expects a physical, run-heavy offense designed to protect the young quarterback, while Shaun worries Nagy could force his system instead of leaning into Dart's strengths. They also debate the Giants' playoff ceiling, Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s failed 50-50 expectations, the Yankees' stagnant offense and an overworked bullpen.

Xavier Gipson and Nic Jones brought some unexpected intensity to the Giants' lightest practice of camp, exchanging punches after the final play of a non-padded walk-through. The fight probably does not signal a fractured locker room, but two players battling for NFL jobs cannot afford to give coaches another reason to move on.Follow on Spotify and leave a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts if you enjoy no-BS Giants debate.Does the Giants camp fight actually matter?By itself, probably not—but the circumstances make it more interesting because Gipson and Jones are competing for roster spots and somehow lost their tempers during a walk-through rather than a padded practice.Dan Duggan described the two as “a couple featherweights exchanging punches,” while John Harbaugh dismissed the incident as “much ado about nothing.” Drew agrees that training-camp fights happen every year and rejects the idea that this represents some major locker-room problem. The strange part is simply how it happened on one of the least physical days of camp. The episode begins with Stefon Diggs signing a one-year deal with Washington after producing 85 receptions for 1,013 yards last season. Diggs clearly makes the Commanders more talented on paper, but Drew sees the timing of the move as evidence that Washington was not comfortable with its receiving corps and became desperate to add another proven weapon around Jayden Daniels. There was better news involving Malik Nabers. He progressed into team walk-through work against the defense after spending most of camp in individual drills, routes and controlled rehabilitation work. It was not a return to full practice, but it was another meaningful step toward eventually getting him back into live football periods.Dru Phillips' situation is more immediate. The Giants' starting nickel is expected to miss some time with a mild knee sprain, although Harbaugh said, “The good news is he's going to be okay.” The absence creates an opportunity for Ar'Darius Washington and gives the Giants a chance to test how much secondary depth they actually have behind Phillips. The offense is also getting creative in short yardage. Theo Johnson took direct snaps Wednesday before Patrick Ricard got his chance Thursday. At roughly 300 pounds, Ricard gives the Giants a way to attack inches-to-go situations without unnecessarily putting Jaxson Dart at the bottom of a pile. Drew is firmly in favor of experimenting with the package if it means protecting the franchise quarterback.Another unusual Harbaugh-style project arrived when the Giants signed Grant Finley, a 281-pound fullback/defensive lineman who previously participated in rookie minicamp. Patrick Ricard entered the NFL with a similarly unusual background before becoming a six-time Pro Bowler. Finley is nowhere near that level yet, but the parallel makes him more interesting than the typical late-camp addition. The show closes with former Lions head coach and longtime NFL offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg visiting Giants practice and spending time around Matt Nagy. Nothing indicates Mornhinweg is joining the staff, but a coach with 25 years of NFL experience provides another experienced offensive voice around a Giants organization developing Jaxson Dart.Merch: https://2giantgoofballs-shop.fourthwall.com/ Support: https://buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballs All episodes: https://2giantgoofballs.buzzsprout.com/Send us Fan MailSupport the show

The Giants gained name value and veteran depth by adding Odell Beckham Jr., Braxton Berrios, and JuJu Smith-Schuster, but the sacrifice may be obvious: this many June receiver moves raises real questions about Malik Nabers and the health of the wide receiver room.Follow on Spotify and leave a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts if you enjoy no-BS Giants debate. The Big Question: Why did the Giants sign three wide receivers in one day? The cleanest answer is that the Giants needed return help after Gunner Olszewski's injury, veteran depth for Matt Nagy's offense, and insurance in case Malik Nabers is not ready as quickly as fans hope.OBJ coming back is the emotional headline. Drew and Rob gave Beckham his due as one of the most electric Giants receivers ever, with a résumé that still sits near the top of the franchise record book. But they also pushed the conversation past nostalgia. This version of OBJ is older, has dealt with major injuries, has not produced like the 2015 version in years, and only makes sense if John Harbaugh keeps the role clear. Is Braxton Berrios a real Gunner Olszewski replacement, or just a veteran swing?Berrios makes sense because the Giants needed a return option after Olszewski landed on IR. He has All-Pro returner history, but this episode does not treat him like an automatic fix. The debate is whether there is still enough return-game juice there, or whether the Giants are simply taking a low-risk shot at a familiar veteran profile. Is JuJu Smith-Schuster actually the most useful signing of the three? The OBJ name carries the most emotion, but JuJu may have the clearest path to practical snaps. Drew argued that Smith-Schuster's recent playing time, power-slot profile, and Matt Nagy connection could make him more useful right away than fans expect, especially if the Giants lean into more spread looks or need reliable short-area targets. Are the Giants quietly worried about Malik Nabers? That became the real tension point. Adding OBJ, Berrios, JuJu, and still working out Anthony Miller makes the wide receiver room feel less like normal depth shopping and more like insurance. Drew and Rob pushed back on overreacting to Nabers moving cautiously at a charity softball event, but the larger roster behavior still makes the question fair. The episode also covers Zach Triner being released, Ben Mann becoming the only long snapper currently on the roster, Jarrod Gray joining through the International Player Pathway, Arvell Reese officially signing his rookie contract, and Russell Wilson moving toward CBS Sports.Merch: https://2giantgoofballs-shop.fourthwall.com/Support: https://buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsAll episodes: https://2giantgoofballs.buzzsprout.com/Send us Fan MailSupport the show

Jaxson Dart's Trump appearance created a real Giants debate: was this simply a player exercising his freedom, or did a young quarterback create unnecessary locker-room noise before he has fully proven himself on the field?Follow on Spotify and leave a 5-star rating on Apple Podcasts if you enjoy no-BS Giants debate. The Big Question: Did Jaxson Dart create a real Giants leadership issue? Maybe, but only if the noise lingers. Abdul Carter reacted publicly, Jermaine Eluemunor pushed back by saying the locker room is fine, and Carter later said he and “JD6” spoke as men. That makes this less about a broken locker room and more about the risk of a young quarterback stepping into a polarizing public moment before he has banked enough NFL credibility.Drew and Rob open the show by making one thing clear: this is not about telling Giants fans what to believe politically. The football question is whether Dart's appearance created avoidable pressure inside the fanbase, inside the media cycle, and potentially inside the locker room. They discuss Dart introducing Donald Trump at Rockland Community College, Trump calling him a “future Hall of Famer,” Abdul Carter posting “thought this sh!t was AI, what we doing man,” and Carter later saying he and Dart are good.Tension Question: Should Abdul Carter have kept it private? The guys argue that regardless of where anyone lands politically, Carter made the story bigger by taking his reaction public. They praise Jermaine Eluemunor for trying to put the fire out with “Locker Room is fine. Focus on New England” and “Relax Pat,” while also discussing Lawrence Tynes calling the locker room a sacred place and criticizing public teammate callouts. The show also gets into the business and leadership side of the story. Drew and Rob talk about whether politics should stay out of sports, why athletes still have the same freedom of speech as everyone else, and why that freedom can still come with marketing risk — especially in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut Giants market. They also compare the reaction to past political visibility around major NFL figures and ask whether this only matters because Trump is uniquely polarizing and Giants news is slow.Tension Question: Is this a real football problem or just May noise? The strongest public evidence points to the players trying to move past it quickly. Carter said he and Dart spoke, and Eluemunor publicly rejected the idea that the locker room was divided. That does not mean the moment was risk-free, but it does mean the “locker room destroyed” version of the story looks overblown. After the Dart/Carter debate, the guys shift to Roy Robertson-Harris suffering a torn Achilles during practice, making him another Giants player lost to an Achilles injury after UDFA Thaddeus Dixon earlier in the month. They discuss what that means for defensive line depth and why the Giants may now need to re-evaluate the back end of that position group. The episode also covers Lawrence Taylor's health update after his pancreatitis hospitalization, including the report that he is feeling better and back on the golf course. Then Drew and Rob close with Darnell Mooney's press conference comments, including his statement that his role is to “make plays and dominate,” his familiarity with Matt Nagy, and why the expanded Giants playbook could reflect the influence of John Harbaugh, Brian Callahan, and Greg Roman.Merch: https://2giantgoofballs-shop.fourthwall.com/ Support: https://buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballs All episodes: https://2giantgoofballs.buzzsprout.com/Send us Fan MailSupport the show
