Former Detroit Tigers player Curtis Granderson, a three-time All-Star over 16 MLB seasons, joins the "Days of Roar" podcast to discuss the Tigers, drawing comparisons between the 2006 Tigers and 2025 Tigers. He shared insight into the Tigers' run to the World Series in 2006 as a 25-year-old player, as well as his view of the Tigers' success in 2025 as a 44-year-old national TV analyst. Additionally, Evan and Mark discuss the difficult upcoming schedule, the dominance of ace Tarik Skubal and how the roster will change in the near future with Casey Mize's injury and Matt Vierling's rehab assignment. Skubal is the first player in MLB history to have a six-start stretch with at least 50 strikeouts, no more than one walk and an ERA below 1.00, but is he entering Justin Verlander territory? We explain what that means, and why it's happening now. Evan and Mark also evaluate Jack Flaherty's fastball and provide an update on Parker Meadows' injury. Follow Evan on X/Twitter here. CLICK HEREWho we areBlock Club Chicago is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit news organization dedicated to delivering reliable, relevant and nonpartisan coverage of Chicago's diverse neighborhoods. We believe all neighborhoods deserve to be covered in a meaningful way.We amplify positive stories, cover development and local school council meetings and serve as watchdogs in neighborhoods often ostracized by traditional news media.Ground-level coverageOur neighborhood-based reporters don't parachute in once to cover a story. They are in the neighborhoods they cover every day building relationships over time with neighbors. We believe this ground-level approach not only builds community but leads to a more accurate portrayal of a neighborhood.Stories that matter to you — every daySince our launch five years ago, we've published more than 25,000 stories from the neighborhoods, covered hundreds of community meetings and send daily and neighborhood newsletters to more than 130,000 Chicagoans. We've built this loyalty by proving to folks we are not only covering their neighborhoods, we are a part of them. Some of us have internalized the national media's narrative of a broken Chicago. We aim to change that by celebrating our neighborhoods and chronicling the resilience of the people who fight every day to make Chicago a better place for all.

The New York Yankees have been making the news for some not-so-positive reasons, and one of our Fanmail Friday questions addresses that. Plus, are you letting the Yankees not winning a championship in nearly 15 years affect you personally? Stacey and Steve have some advice for you. Who would be the better trade piece between Michael King and Clarke Schmidt? Stacey was asked about their favorite Yankee from the 1998 squad, and the answer may surprise you. There were a couple of questions about the offseason with regard to trades and signings and whether or not Hal Steinbrenner would step in if he didn't like what Cashman was doing. Stacey and Steve answered those questions as well. Who do they think will step up in 2024 after having a down 2023? Stacey and Steve have different answers to that question. They answer a question about the luxury tax threshold, which is pretty high, and Brad Ausmus and Curtis Granderson as coaches. In the third hour, Dan Bernstein and Leila Rahimi listened to Bears coach Matt Eberflus address the organization's firing of running backs coach David Walker, whose conduct failed to live up to the team's standards, Eberflus said. Walker is the second Bears assistant coach to suddenly depart the organization this season. On Sept. 20, defensive coordinator Alan Williams abruptly resigned from his role. Bernstein and Rahimi then discussed the positives and negatives in the Bulls' 2-2 start to the season before addressing a trade rumor linking star guard Zach LaVine to the 76ers. Later, three-time All-Star outfielder Curtis Granderson joined the show to discuss his 10th annual Grand Giving campaign taking place throughout November.

The Roberto Clemente Award is the most prestigious award in MLB. The Roberto Clemente Award is bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field. Past winners include Willie Mays, Willie Stargel, Rod Crew, Don Baylor, Curtis Granderson, and Derek Jeter. And in 2023, five of the nominees are African American. That's five African-American players out of thirty nominations. That's 16.6%. The players are Tony Kemp (A's), Marcus Stroman (Cubs), Jojo Gray (Nats), Aaron Judge (NYY), and Hunter Greene (Reds). What a tremendous honor. If you add the nine LatinX players that are nominated, that makes nearly half the league. I truly love how this game is growing, and I am happy to share this information. Salute to every player nominated regardless of race. It's a stellar accomplishment.

Curtis Granderson has his hands full these days. He juggles a schedule including his pre and post assignment for TBS's Tuesday night baseball along with the post season, his role as president of the Players Alliance, his responsibilities with the baseball and educational academy and the GrandKids Foundation. All of this fashioned during and after an excellent 16 year career playing for 7 teams while hitting 344 homers and driving in almost a thousand runs! Granderson began his career with the Detroit Tigers but he also made stops in New York with both the Yankees and Mets yet never played for his home town teams, The Cubs or White Sox. He said he would have loved that yet he's not disappointed because it might have been difficult. Every time he came to town there were friends, tickets and so many things to do he would wind up exhausted after a series.“The reason I say no is part of it is after that two, three or four game series in town playing one of the two teams I would be so exhausted because I was seeing everyone and doing so many things," he says on the show.Granderson lives very close to the University of Illinois at Chicago baseball field, named in his honor him after he donated five million dollars to build it. It was a way to also help kids in the area have the experiment of playing on a college field."I wanted the kids in the area an opportunity to play, practice and train on a college campus.”To say the least, Granderson is not only a citizen of Chicago but to many communities and the game of baseball. His story is part of the long list of great guests on "Tell Me A Story I Don't Know" and make sure to get more great episodes on the Last Word on Sports Media Podcast feed through Apple Podcasts, Google, Spotify, etc.!Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
