We, humans, have three majors drivers. Genetics gives us innate tendencies or instincts, social systems encourage us to adopt certain beliefs and ways of being, and our ego grants us our identity and self-acceptance. When all of these aspects are in alignment and we lift the veils we can truly become who we are as a person. If we take the extra step out of our comfort zone we are able to reach a state of flow. Chiropractors can achieve flow by being healthy, staying in their zone, and by increasing patient volume incrementally by 4%. Today, I am not speaking with a chiropractor from an exotic location. As we reach 100 shows, I am in my office reflecting on some of my favorite podcast episodes and the episodes with the most downloads.   During this podcast episode, I review lessons from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s books Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, and The Evolving Self. On today’s episode, we are going to switch the tables to learn more about the ultimate underdog, Dr. Don MacDonald. Don shares how his last 18 years of being in chiropractic have been like. When Don was starting out his practice, he apparently loved chiropractic and the potential of what it could do for people, and then, it became not that for him. During the first seven years of his practice, everything seems like such a price for him that he lost any vision of what the promise was. Don was able to keep the practice at a good volume and still did a lot of things for the profession, but it was at a huge detriment to his health. He had gone through a couple of issues and trauma that not only burned him out mentally but also his health. He felt broken, hurt, and exhausted all the time. What Don realized was he was not doing what he needed to do to take care of himself. What he did is he focused on his body and on few things that he knew are going to make the most significant difference in his practice. Aside from perseverance, another key to his success is his wife, Brandi, who supports him of what he does. Get all the resources for this episode and listen to more at http://www.drdonmacdonald.com/

“On one side of the spectrum, you're addicted to being the underdog, and on the other side of the spectrum you're adverse to being the underdog, which, either way, slows down your growth process. What if you're an adaptable underdog? Which mean you're willing to try new things that you're not very good at but if you're really good at things, you're also ok with that so you don't sabotage your success.” – Dr. Don MacDonald Dr. Don MacDonald is a practicing chiropractor of over 20 years, success coach, author, and a world-renowned speaker. Through his own life experience of “people-pleasing” and self-awareness, together with the challenging physical manifestations he witnesses as part of his chiropractic practice, Don was inspired to share his message in his book The Underdog Curse. The Underdog Curse causes you to sabotage your own success, be brought down by old habits and held back from genuine happiness. After spending most of his life trying to kick his own underdog curse, Dr. Don now spends most of his time trying to help others with the cure to this purpose-destroying pattern. As you'll learn in this conversation, through ongoing self-improvement, training and influential relationships, Dr. Don approaches physical care with more complexity by looking at the root of illness and injury and the connections with our mental and emotional health; not simply treating conditions and symptoms. Together with his wife Brandi, Don speaks to business owners around the world and their employees about the importance of creating healthy environments and the impact of stress on our bodies. Don delivers a powerful message about the mind-body connection, self-care and ultimately living your life in alignment with your authentic self with no regrets. Dr Don MacDonald has spent 17 years in the health and wellness industry as a chiropractor in Edmonton Alberta. It was from his position at the adjusting table that he noticed a common frustration developing into a major stressor in the lives of many patients.  He identified it as ‘the underdog’ and they couldn’t seem to break out of it. It was a pattern he had seen in his own life - from the basketball days of his youth to life as a businessman and health practitioner.  It stopped people from living their best lives, and often stripped them of true happiness. He made it his mission to find out how to break the underdog curse and move into authentic, lasting success. Dr Don is now a life coach and motivational speaker who dedicates his time to empowering people with the new, inspiring information regarding success, health, and his first love, neurology. www.theunderdogcurse.com
