She debuts in the first issue of Fray (2001), a limited series in a shared universe with the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Living in the 23rd century, Melaka is a professional thief who learns that she is a Slayer destined to fight supernatural foes. She has a Slayer's physical powers, while her twin brother Harth inherited their prophetic dreams. Melaka discovers that Harth, whom she believed was dead, has become a vampire intent on bringing demons back to Earth's dimension. After stopping his plan, she remains a thief, but chooses to protect others as well. In Tales of the Slayers, she connects with her heritage by reading journals about past Slayers. Melaka reappears in the canonical comic book continuation of the television series, meeting the 21st century Slayer Buffy Summers in Season Eight and helping her defeat Harth in Season Twelve. Melaka was developed by Buffy's creator Joss Whedon and artist Karl Moline. Whedon originally planned to write a comic about a different Slayer, Faith, but instead opted for a new character in a futuristic setting to avoid interfering with Faith's potential storylines. Fray was Whedon's first time writing a comic, although Dark Horse Comics had previously published Buffy comics without his involvement. His only request was that Melaka should not be drawn in the sexualized manner common with female characters in superhero comics. Although Melaka is initially characterized as tough, she is also shown as caring and protective of others. Her relationships with Harth and her older sister Erin are key parts of Fray. Critics have had mixed reactions to Melaka in Fray. Some have praised her as a good protagonist, while others have criticized her relationships with other characters and capabilities as a strong female character. Moline's art has been the subject of critical discussion, as despite Whedon's intentions, some reviewers believed that the comic sexually objectifies Melaka. Academics have analyzed Melaka's character arc in Fray as an example of the hero's journey, with her last name also being examined based on its potential meanings. Capítulo: Limp Bizkit en el Fray Nano – Una noche de nostalgia, caos controlado y rock del bueno En este episodio te cuento cómo vivimos el concierto de Limp Bizkit el pasado 29 de noviembre en el Estadio Fray Nano ️ — un venue con aforo de unas 5,200 personas, perfecto para un show intenso pero íntimo. Llegamos temprano, entre 5 y 6 pm, y sorprendentemente no había filas . Los accesos fluyeron sin retrasos y el ambiente comenzaba a calentarse. Los baños del estadio estuvieron bastante bien : limpios, con agua y jabón todo el tiempo. Peeero… en VIP no fue la misma historia : pocas cabinas, filas largas, nada acorde al concepto “premium”. No hubo merch oficial en VIP ️ (gran error, el merch es parte del ritual). La comida y bebida con precios estándar: cerveza en $200, alimentos entre $150–$200, y las terminales bancarias funcionaron perfecto . El quórum terminó muy sólido: entre 70 y 80% del estadio lleno . Aunque a las 7 pm parecía que no llegaría tanta gente, al final hubo muy buena asistencia y energía. Sobre la producción: escenario de buen tamaño pero sencillo, sin mucho “vestido”. Nada espectacular, pero cumplidor . El sonido sí estuvo a gran nivel , con uno que otro quiebre, pero nada grave. El cartel salió exacto en horarios ⏰ (algo que siempre se agradece). Vimos un poco de Ecca Vandal, bastante X; luego 311, que nos llevó de vuelta a los 18–20 años con su vibra nostálgica ; y Bullet for My Valentine, quienes dieron el show más contundente de la noche ⚡. Finalmente: Limp Bizkit. No se guardaron ni un hit . Sonaron My Generation, My Way, Rollin', Nookie, Hot Dog, Full Nelson (donde subieron a 3 fans que rockearon durísimo ). Además, tributos a Sam Rivers, Metallica y Pantera. En nuestra escala, el show se lleva un 7/10 ⭐: buena música, buena energía, pero con dolencias en servicios y una experiencia VIP que sigue sin sentirse VIP. Aun así, una noche memorable, llena de riffs, nostalgia y desmadre musical del bueno . Happy Veterans Day! For this special episode, I talk with filmmaker Geoff Ryan about his 2012 film, FRAY. For me, FRAY is one of the more authentic "return from war" stories in a usually bad genre of overwrought films. I wanted to find out more about the making of the film, how the lead actor was cast, and what made Geoff the best person -- a non-veteran -- to tell this story.I'm looking to support more veteran actors, producers, directors...filmmakers.
